The Club at Pine Forest

About
The 18 semi-private holes at Pine Forest wind through the tall Summerville pines with numerous live oaks, dogwoods and a lake system thrown in for good measure. With an equal balance of straightaways, doglegs and elevation changes, this course is nicely balanced, with challenges and fun in store for golfers of all levels. Rental clubs and electric carts are available.
At 6,905 yards with a 138-slope rating, Pine Forest lives up to its name, as the course has numerous barriers of tall Summerville pines to cause problems for an errant shot. The Bob Spence design also makes use of water to add to the difficulty of some holes. It's a semi-private course, and they've named each hole, with No. 12 being known as "Little Augusta" while No. 15 is "Wastelands."

Greens
Greens were the worst greens I ever played in my life. Left after nine holes cause they were dead and holes punched without filling in with sand
Horrendous Greens and Poor Overall Condition
The worst greens I’ve ever played on, which were arguably unplayable at times. Green wasn’t trimmed in what seemed like a week and almost all of the greens had large dead spots of grass and sandy parts. Balls would skip due to the large amounts of large and there were 0 true rolls or chips all day. Cart paths were in poor condition and you could rarely drive at full speed. Pros of the course are a pretty layout with lots of water and fairly kept fairways.
Bad Shape
The Geeens are in very bad shape. The pace of play was horrible. Had a family of 5 with a kid.
Greens are in horrible shape. Don’t waste your money.
The greens on most of the holes were embarrassing. I can’t imagine the members are very happy that the greens have been destroyed due to the recent rainfall. Several greens were mostly dirt and almost unplayable. I will not return this year to pay even if they gave me a free round. There are several other courses i. the area that are in much better shape for the $59 greens fees.
Absolutely excruciating pace of play. The Marshall told us we were on time - which would imply things were moving ahead of us. But we quickly ran into a wall on hole 3. By the time we got to hole 5 we saw the issue - and group of eight (8) golfers on hole 8! This isn't the first time we have seen this on Pine Forest - and with the lack of marshals it won't be the last I'm sure. And if that didn't take the cake - we spotted a different group of seven (7) on the back nine. Our round was well over 5 hours. It is getting ridiculous. This course is in serious decline over the last few years. They appear to be making some course improvements but they also have a lot of work to do to get it up to a destination course. It's a shame since the design is good - but poor management will kill it soon I predict.
This course is a hot mess.
You better have 5 hours to play a round (6 on the weekend). No starter, no course marshall, groups of 5 or more. Its out of control.
Not what I expected
It is what you pay for so at $30/round I shouldn’t be surprised. The course needs water with dry fairways and blotchy greens. The layout was interesting and would have been more enjoyable with grass on the fairways. Bunkers were ok but not maintained.
Not worth the time
The Club at Pine Forest has been declining in quality for the last 7 years. We play here fairly often - and each time the overall experience is worse than before. While they are attempting to make course improvements - they appear to create more damage to the overall course than they improve. They fix the cart paths but damage irrigation systems, causing flooding. With no course marshalls to help manage play (and starters only on weekends and holidays) - rounds often take more than 5 hours; even on weekdays. Weekend play is excruciating; rounds often approach 6 hours to play. Calls to the clubhouse to report 5 or 6 player groups are met with lackluster response, if any. The clubhouse only offers food Fri-Sun and the hours of operation appear to fluctuate depending on staffing. You cannot depend on the availability of food at any given time. Overall - its hardly worth the effort to play here.
Looking good!
Love the course... a little work has been done around some of the greens and they're looking good! A great value and a challenge from any tee
Greens are in very rough shape. Bare spots and patches of grass make some of them unplayable. No course layout or map on the carts or scorecard, so playing the course for the first time was very difficult. Hit into water a few times only because I didn't know it was there.
Great and tough
The greens were horrible. Very tough yes, very fun and challenging and beautiful. But the state of the greens was really sad to see. Bumpy and patchy. But the staff was awesome and the fairways were good as we start to warm up. Everything was really awesome and will come back next time I’m in Charleston with the hopes the greens are in better shape
Slowest. Round. Ever.
If you enjoy A TON of water and a 5 1/2 hour round, round, you will LOVE this place.
Sad Conditions for a very good course.
Moved my son to Charleston and got out for a round of golf. Spring break, absolutely perfect weather, so limited availability. Should have booked prior to the trip. Took what we could get, drove out to Summerville, but when you get A $42 deal, when everything else is booked or $90 plus, it is buyer beware. In an upscale community, houses in the 800K range, a nice and challenging layout, but the course is in terrible condition. I've seen asteroids that had less bumps and craters than these greens. And these green had serious slopes, similar to the Castle Course in St. Andrews if you've ever been there. Limited fairway grass, approaches were off hardpan. In spite of this the course was packed. The golf boom is a real thing. Needs a new owner, shut down for a year to re-grass the entire course. In good condition this would be a 4 star course.
Winter blah
I enjoyed the topography and shape of the course but in its current conditions it is tough to muster anything positive.
The fairways have not grown in yet and the sparse dormant grass present made it tough to score a good shot.
The greens are blotchy and bare in spots and prevents you from reading, let alone making, a putt.
The previous days rain forced cart path only conditions which was definitely warranted, but the condition of them is horrible.
All in all this is a neighborhood course that the neighborhood forgot about…. Best of luck, but I doubt I’ll return.
