Rio Pinar
9:30 tee time with steady pace of play until 14th hole and then we caught up with a fivesome and waited on every shot.
Rio Pinar/ New Owners
I was fortunate enough to play with one of Rio Pinar's starters. Course is starting to show improvements due to the efforts of new owners. The starter believes some big improvements are forthcoming while keeping the cost play economical. Great course and friendly staff. I'm hopeful it will return to it's formal PGA glory.
Great time
Played with the family for a Mother’s Day outing. Lunch was great and the staff was great. We will be back soon for a great time.
disappointing
seemed like many had found the course to be a good choice...mystifies me a bit...this is basically a municipal course that charges like it's a ... expensive bag of range balls, NO Water on the course, so ... has a relatively nice locker area and pix of Arnold Palmer etc, who I figure would be sad, having his name associated with such a poorly maintained piece of property... forget they had recently punched the greens, the poor condition makes that a non-issue... not a ball-washer to be seen ... the history of the place is real enough, just unfortunate that it is not being treated accordingly.... my game has taken a turn for the worse, in recent years, and hdcp shows but, I still know the difference between value and ... not worth it
Established 1957
The sand traps were redone when the location was sold some 8 or 9 years ago. Some of the fairways and cart-paths are showing their age. (Established 1957 when it hosted many professional tournaments).
I didn't find even one golf ball washer around the whole course. Both bathrooms on the course have also been renovated.
Course has gone downhill
Greens were just aerated. I hadn’t played here in a year or so, I don’t remember it being this bad. Aside from aeration the greens weren’t great, fairways had a lot of dirt patches, traps were meh. Overall wasn’t impressed. Winter Park Pines seems to be 📈 and this course seems to be 📉
Beware Starters
We got to tee off 15 mins early. The player in front of us was going to be paired up with us,but he said he had a ride-along. So the starter let him go out, mind you they only had one bag. Well that was not the case, both men played out of one bag, To make matters worse “the ride-along” was a horrible golfer. They took time to find their lost golf balls.
We should have reported them on the front 9, but we were hoping they would speed it up and be responsible. So STARTERS BEWARE
Going Back in Time
Rio Pinar is one of my favorite courses in Orlando. Once upon a time, golf greats the likes of Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Julius Boros roamed the fairways at the Citrus Open. Those times have passed and the course is a bit older and no longer new and shiny, but it’s great fun to tee off on the same course that the legends played. The course itself is in good condition overall. More than passable for what you pay. Go into the clubhouse and look at all the photos and memorabilia and be amazed. You won’t be disappointed in the overall experience. The staff is friendly and courteous. Also, bring some peanuts for the famous black squirrels that greet you throughout the course.
Classic course
This course was so much fun to play and has lots of history with the Citrus Open! I felt like Arnold Palmer of Jack Nicklaus could still be there hanging out on the patio!
Staff was so friendly and helpful!!
Slow Play & Terrible Management
- Called ahead to make sure there was a beverage cart on the course as it was a hot Florida afternoon.
- Was assured there was a beverage cart making the rounds so proceeded to book.
- By hole 7, we were on a 5.5hr pace of play due to slow play in front of us and no rangers on the course. Also, the beverage cart had not come around once. Called the pro shop and they said the cart was restocking at the bar.
- Stop at the turn to get water and Gatorade from the pro shop and it was locked with no staff in sight.
- Call again from the 13th tee to see about the beverage cart and was told they took the employee off the cart to help in the restaurant.
- Only bright side of this day was that the pro shop employee was kind enough to bring out drinks to us on the 14th hole.
- We're on the 18th fairway and notice a casual 8-some teeing off on the 10th. Not surprising haha. (photo attached)
- We finish the round and go into the restaurant to grab a quick drink and a bite to eat. We were promptly notified they were no longer serving food (it was roughly 5pm) and were doing last call.
- Leadership starts at the top and it's clearly evident it's non-existent here which is sad since this used to be a PGA tour stop years and years ago. Probably wouldn't play here again unless I was absolutely desperate.
Management Problems
Used to love this course. It’s gone down hill. They have a young manager who is very disrespectful and clearly the course is going down hill with him in charge. Over priced and they are double booking tee times which is throwing off pace of play. Course is in okay shape, but they need to replace the manager and get this course back to where it was.
Great day to play
It was a great day, the course was great, a few greens need attending to but all in all a great day.
