Do not purchase from these courses
I purchased 2 rounds from Golf Now through Groupon. When I arrived the base would not let me enter. I had a picture driver license and a local government picture work ID. Was not enough. I also would need a passport or original birth certificate. WHO CARRIES THAT WITH THEM. Horrible experience. Groupon says I need to speak with the course and the course says I need to speak with Groupon. Never again using Groupon. If u have a problem u cannot speak to a person. Really.
Wet but new sand in traps
Like all courses in VA this course will benefit from some sunny dry days. Some greens better than others but overall a fun day. Love the new traps
Pretty Good For Winter Rounds
Course in good shape, dry, greens rolled nicely, the sun was shining and it’s golf in the Winter. Bartender was a nice chap, he was very accommodating and friendly.
Good course, go early
GolfNow needs to include in course information that you need to plan for an extra 20 minutes of check-in time at the Tulley Gate during your arrival. Pro shop was very understanding and accommodating with my late arrivall. Nice course, great for intermediate players, very forgiving. Greens were kinda ok for wintertime but my gas powered cart constantly had difficulty starting. I’d love to play it in the early summer. GolfNow price was fantastic.
Great time Winter Golfing
Course empty and weather very cooperative, overall a great day of golf - staff very helpful and friendly - David the manager does a wonderful job. Ron at the bar is a real gem - attentive and a friendly face after golfing. The bar slings some great food too.
Blow the Leaves
Course was in decent shape. It was a shame they hadn’t blown most of the leaves off parts of the fairways and some of the greens.
I will not play this course again - ever!
Getting worse
I’ve played this course for years and it’s getting progressively worse. They had to re route and add new holes 2 years ago, all this work caused a loss of attention to detail. Most greens were nearly unplayable and general conditions were substandard. A great layout gone bad.
Great course to practice on or to fine tune your game
Great course to practice on or to fine tune your game Forces you to hit fairways because it is very difficult to find your ball in the rough, even if everyone saw your ball trickle from the fairway into the rough. Took all of us to search for the ball and it took us about five minutes to finally find the ball. You literally have to be standing directly above the ball. Believe it’s the type of grass used in the rough that eats balls.
Amazingly surprised
In pre-reading all of the negative reviews shown on Golfnow I was apprehensive about what the course would be like. I was pleasantly surprised. I golfed with my son-in-law who resides in Alexandria and the courses are somewhat limited. We enjoyed the mixture of both short and long par 4's and 5's as well as a few mid range par 3's. I found the course in very playable condition and the greens were somewhat on the the slow side but that is to be expected with the extreme heat index. Other than that I enjoyed my round of golf and will definitely return when I am visiting again and hopefully soon.
Security is a goat rodeo
I played this with a buddy today. The tee boxes were a joke, but it’s late August and the value was great to get out and just play. The greens were in fine shape. What is nuts is that Golf Now does jack crap to make sure you understand how long to give security to get on base. Show up at least an hour before your tee time.
Poor Value
First time playing at Fort Belvoir and I expected more from this military course. Being active duty I have played many military courses throughout the country and this ranks in the bottom half for me.
The layout has been chopped up sometime in the last few years I was informed. It now plays to a par 70 and less than 5900 yards from the Gold tees which is now the tips here. Many of the holes are straight with little character. More than a handful of short par 4's with elevated greens to make them a little more challenging.
The course conditions left something to be desired for sure. Tee boxes were thin on grass and rock hard. Fairways were dried out and hard. Most were in good shape as far as not being thin on grass. The rough was thick in some places but nothing extreme. The greens were in good shape for the most part. They are a little slow but that is due to having to let the Bent Grass grow a bit longer due to the heat this time of the year. Now if other golfers would just fix their ball marks on the greens things would be even better. There are a few holes that are under some work which causes some other issues. The highlight of the conditions are the bunkers. The sand is new and it is not thin. I would know as I found myself in my fair share of bunkers throughout the round.
The practice facility is OK. Downhill driving range all off of mats. Two different practice putting greens that are in OK condition. The pro shop is nicely stocked with any thing you may need at the course. They did have a beverage cart out during the round.
The value is poor whether you are paying the civilian rate or the military rate here. There are courses in Virginia that are the same price and much, much nicer in every aspect. I am hesitant to recommend this course right now but there are signs of some money being put into the course so maybe give it some time before you play here.
Fun course, bad tee boxes.
Basically all of the tee boxes need to be redone, they were so packed down that it was difficult to get a tee to go in. Aside from that it was a fun course, the staff were confused about booking from this site though, make sure you tell them that a cart is included. She charged us for a cart then made us find a manager to show that she shouldn't have charged us for a cart so then we had to go back and refund our cart fees, in all that wasted about 15 minutes of my life.
Ft Belvoir-Disappointment
I was disappointed in the shape of the course. Many holes had weeds everywhere in the fairway and rough. Weeds were also growing in the sand traps. Some tee boxes had little grass or had many bare spots. Also, no chances to get something to eat or drink at the turn. The 10th hole was too far away from the club house.
Unless you're military or DOD, don't bother
I timed my trip through the Tulley Gate through which civilians must enter Fort Belvoir. From the moment I put my car in line, it took 27 minutes before I was approved to enter. My car was only behind eight other cars! I am a federal employee with several security clearances, but that really is irrelevant. The course itself was not in as good of shape as many other area courses I play regularly. It was fine, but certainly not worth waiting 27 minutes at the entry gate. I could drive to several farther-out courses in that time, and not be stuck waiting at a security gate.
