Challenging Course
I played today and the greens were recently aerated but the overall course conditions were fine for Mid March. I can’t wait to play the course again and it should be in great shape in a couple of weeks.
Nice Day
Went out before my tee time - Dave the Manager greeted me and was his usual nice self and what a pretty day to get 18 in. I was alone and nestled between two foursomes and they kept it moving quite nicely. Greens are in rough shape but hey we are just coming out of the cold and the grass will awaken.
What happened?
I played Woodlawn today and the course was in rough shape considering the mild winter. The greens were absolutely horrible. The course had no water out for you to drink. The fairways were decently maintained but the bunkers were not raked at all by maintenance as the deer tracks are solid evidence of neglect. I will likely pass on this course my next time out. The cost was low, but the conditions were way down from fall 2019 and don't warrant a return.
Don’t waste your time and money.
The course is in horrible shape. The greens were the worst I’ve ever seen on this course. All but maybe three greens were unplayable. They were inflected with some kind of weed. I would not recommend this course until they address and improve the greens. Totally unplayable and a waste of money. Don’t waste your time.
Nice course layout and challenging. Course is not in good shape but kinda worth it for the price we paid.,
Worth it at a low price
Pros: Staff, price, fairly empty, good design
Cons: 45 Minute wait for a visitor pass at the front gate, course and greens not in good shape, course doesn't drain well
Challenging Track
This was my first time playing Fort Belvoir in about 3 yrs and I was really impressed with the new changes and updates. Great course and in great condition.
Good track
The course is fun to play. Enough challenges to keep one humble but opportunities to excel as well. Greens are a bit rough but it's January. At the golf now price it was an excellent value.
Great Winter Golf Day
Enjoyed a pretty, sunshiny day on the Woodlawn course - course was in good shape as wet as it has been and the greens were pretty quick. Staff was nice as they always are and I was very happy with the rate I got on the Golf Now app.
Fort Belvoir Woodlawn course
Course is good but due to cold temperatures it was Carr path only. I’m sure the course will improve as summer approaches. For the price I would recommend this course.
Super Slow Greens
The course was ok, but not worth $64.
The greens were super slow, the play was extremely slow for me. We started at 11:30 and finished at almost at 4:45.
On top of all that the back nine was and is always cart-path-only.
Nice Course
First time playing and was very impressed with the course layout , pace of play and value. I will definitely play there again and arrive early to go through security.
Great Classic Course
I played Gunston as a single on a cold day in December. I am civilian and did not realize I could play Ft. Belvoir (TIP: You need to use the Lieber gate on weekends and allow 10 extra mins for gate to course) If you like classic courses, this is fantastic. Very straightforward layout, but with lots of different lies, elevation changes, and you can also find trouble. It was very well run from clubhouse, starter, etc.
Reduced
Only 9 holes available to play. Tournament on one 18 hole course and other course had temp greens on front nine All were sent to the back 9 for “real golf”. No discount offered
Pleasantly Suprised
Layout is great! And with just a little TLC the overall look and conditions could be much better at the Woodlawn 18. Noticeable difference between the Gunston course and Woodlawn must be attributed to one being for members or officers? 10 minutes from home, and 2.5 hr round worth every cent.
Give yourself more time to get there
The course is beautiful, the fairways are in a good shape, greens are not so good.
Read the information about using the Tulley gate.
You will need to park your car there and go to the Visitor Center to get a pass. It all takes time. You definitely need a government issued ID, then you fill out an application and wait to get your pass.
From there, there is a significant drive to the golf course with multiple stop lights and traffic. Ask for directions as your GPS May be not very helpful. After playing, I was able to exit through the closest gate on Beulah St, which was a relief.
