Pohick Bay Golf Course
About
Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course in Lorton has been one of the area's most popular public courses since it opened in the early 1980s. Playing at Pohick Bay is like playing two golf courses in one, with a front nine that has long, tree-lined fairways and a hillier back nine that features a variety of doglegs and water holes. It is a definitely a shot-maker's course so be prepared to use some creativity and some thoughtful strategizing doesn’t hurt either. The constant up and down of the golf course provides uneven lies and a number of blind shots. The dramatic terrain also makes it a tough course to walk. Trees frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy but also providing a peaceful and secluded feel. Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course is popular amongst locals for being one of the most challenging and yet also one of the most affordable courses in the area.

Very nice course the people playing on this particular day where not vvery friendly. They where on our Backs the whole time and hitting into us while we had to wait for the four some infrin front of us.
challenging to the average golfer
Only thing that was bad, was the weather. First time player and average golfer. Bogey/ dbl bogey golfer. You really have to know the yardage of you sticks because of the dog legs(alot). Greens and fairsways were excellent. If I could afford it, I'd be a member. Can't wait to go back.
Poor policy and rude employees
We were rudely pushed off the course at exactly 5 pm due to some policy i have never heard of at any golf course to close at 5pm. It was not dark yet and could have easily completed a few more holes, at least 30 minutes. Marshall was very rude to everyone still on course and sat behind us and followed all the way off the course. I was not informed of this policy when booking the round to start at 1:45. The marshall even interupted someone on the 18th hole about 40 yards out from finishing and argued with them until they left. Never seen this type of service at a golf course. Not recommended. Positives - the course was in good shape
Tight, hilly, blind tee shots
This is a tight, hilly, short course, with many dog legs and blind tee shots. Not for big drivers. Besides blind tee shots, it is generally easy to score at this course, although on a few holes, not knowing what is around the corner can lead to a wrong club choice. Overall a pleasant, but fairly easy course.
Nice layout.
Could not ride on 10-17 fairways. Excellent greens, Fairways and tee box grass could be better, thicker. Course has some eye pleasing holes. Tight fairways and lots of elevations.
Goose is good for the price
Goose puts out alot of good deals on golfnow, staff is super friendly, comdition are average and greens are average at best. On a weekend your round will take over 5 hrs, today mine took almost 6. But highly recommend especially if you find a deal.
pohick bay
Went on a friday around noon. Pretty good crowd out. Very little wait. Actually showed up early and they plugged of in right away with a single. Course is great a little bit of everything (ponds, bunkers, thick grass and lightly wooded in most areas of out of bounds). Some fairways were a bit beat up from club divits. All and all if you havent played there, go give it a round.
An Old Favorite
Pretty much my old 'Home Course', but my first time playing Pohick Bay in over a year and a half due in-part to some injuries but also due to a 6 hour round here on a Saturday in the Spring of 2013. No pace of play/overbooking issues this time, only a few short waits on the teebox on this holiday weekend Saturday afternoon.
Course conditions were very good for the last weekend of the Summer, although the greens were soft and a little slow but rolled well. The bunkers were all freshly raked and in excellent condition.
One odd change they've made since I last played here is with the practice range, the conventional individual mats are gone, replaced by one continuous piece of matting with separators and ball trays defining each hitting station, but now there is nowhere to tee-up a ball so you can't hit your driver. This is a long range, I've used it easily over a hundred times and never been able leave the range with a driver and I hit it pretty far.
real challange
I've been playing Pohick since it opened and it has never played better. Staff could not have been nicer.
Nice new carts.
So-so course
It is an ok course for being county owned but it is pricey for the quality of the layout and the conditioning.
Good value for the money!
My friend and I always come to this course. Usually the pace of play is pretty good. When we played on this course, there rangers were available to push the pace of play. They even allow you to play earlier if there is no one ahead of you, just so that the pace of play is excellent. I would recommend this course!
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience
I played as a single at 2:00. They got me right onto the course at my tee time. If you're not great off the tee it's probably best to use something other than the driver on most holes with accuracy being much more important than distance. The back 9 is a lot more open.
course
good course condition, challenging for new golfer good green and fairway
Plan to return
This is one of the nicer public courses in the area even though it is a little far from the city. For a first round it is quite tough due to some blind shots and some possibly mislabeled distance markers. I wish they would provide some better details of the course for first time players but overall a great course in very good condition. I look forward to playing this course again.

Awesome golf course!!! Fairways and green have been well maintained. I will tell my golf buddies about it and recommend they play here. My second best score was achieved at Pohick this weekend ;-)
will definitely return
The price was right, course was in great shape, pace of play was right on! Staff was friendly and had good advice.
Fun and challenging
The course has an interesting layout with tricky greens and well manicured fairways and rough
