The Links at Victoria Golf Course has a convenient location in Carson that is easily accessible from the South Bay, downtown Los Angeles, or Orange County. William Bell, the mastermind who crafted the Torrey Pines courses, also designed the Links at Victoria. The course has a traditional design that features wide, gently undulating fairways and large, well manicured greens. It's not an overly challenging course but there are some holes that will make you think and you'll find that accuracy and a good strategy are both generously rewarded. The wide-openness of the front nine provides a gentle start to the golf course while the tighter back mine presents greater challenges. It's a good round for learning beginners and more advanced golfers will find it to be a fun, quick round for an affordable price.

Improving

I can see the improvements; the practice facilities are getting better, they have good carts, they are trying to get an alcohol license at the restaurant, they are growing more and more grass (!!!). They still have a loooong way to go, it will be years until it is a decent course. The biggest problem right now is the staff, the two older gentleman who work the desk are not good by any standard. They do not know what they are doing, they are clearly there as a last resort for staffing and similarly for a lot of the staff they just seem to be unhappy working there. It’s one thing to be rude, it’s another thing to be bad at your job, and if you don’t want to be there or get frustrated at your job, maybe it’s time to look somewhere else. The new management has a vision, they need to get rid of the old staff who are not helping the vision.

What a waste

The his is a dog track. Not a blade of grass in the fairways. The greens are fluffy and slow as molasses. The golf carts are broken down and in poor repair with essentially no suspension. I feel like I need a chiropractor after bouncing around for 9 holes. Yes I said 9 holes, it was so bad I chose not to stay and play the back 9 that I’d already paid for.

I feel like a refund and an apology are in order. If it wasn’t for the operations manager being friendly I would give this place 0 stars.

Such a shame...

I played this course in the 1980's and 90's (not today which is why I paid $20 to walk back then!) and while the California weather and city budgets makes it difficult for municipal golf courses to present lavish conditions, this course was nice... back then. After having seen the "Bob Does Sports" YouTube video and the mockery made of this formerly once very nive golf course, it made me sad. I loved Billy Bell and William Sr. designed golf courses (they're all over Southern Cal). They always made challenging but playable public golf courses. It's too bad to see their great work ruined by neglect. Oh well... at least I have my memories. If the City of Carson still owns it, I'd love to see someone buy it and renovate it but at this stage in the neglect process, it would mean tearing out the entire drainage and irrigation system and laying in a new one. We're talking millions of dollars of repairs. Such a waste of a piece of California golf history.

They've completely given up

Lost my ball after hitting it straight down the middle of the first 'fairway' because it's anything but. Patches of overgrown weeds and grass next to bare dirt. Standing water in low areas of the intended fairway. Standing water in several cartpath areas.

Greens rolled okay.

Not planning on playing here again.

Course on bad shape

Very little grass on most fairways. In the fairways that did have grass, it was very long...more like the rough instead of a fairway. Three holes were very flooded, some groups were skipping these holes!

Surprising round

I played this course for the first time one day after a three-day storm. Needless to say there were many flooded areas, deep grass patches due to inability to mow, and the need to use a push cart. Yet, the tee pads and the greens were in especially good condition. Once you get to the green, it became a quite enjoyable round.

Needs desperate help

If your into muddy fairways and unplanned water hazards this is the course for you. It’s an absolute disrepair. Situated on an old dump it makes it impossible for grass to grow. Do not go if it recently rained. There were lakes on the course not by design. If they figured out how to get grass growing it could be a fun municipal.

Poor condition

The front 9 feels like playing in a pasture field, no grass only dirt. The back nine is a little better than the front, better condition! However, one i can say, greens are one the best conditions of any golf courses in the area!

Victoria is Getting There

It won’t be long before Victoria becomes one of those wonderful places to play. Everybody will talk about the lack of grass on some of the fairways. But the tees and greens were lush. Many of the Fairways were almost 100% and there’s a feeling that this courses on its way to a new beginning. I don’t wanna tell you because I don’t want you to go there, but this is a really special place that I love to play.

The worst course I've ever played

If you just want to kit some balls and you don't care about grass, then this is the course for you. I'm not exaggerating when I say that 60-70% of the fairways were simply dirt and mud. The course was full of players who have now concept of golf etiquette (driving their carts up to the actual green, four players each with their own carts, players hitting 3-4 balls on each hole). I had to play through on two separate holes because of extremely slow play (and I should add that the course was practically empty, it was just slooooow play).

Such a shame...

I heard terrible things about the course but it's architect (William Bell) drew me in. I walked the course paying the weekday/senior rate. Unfortunately, the absolute disregard by the City of Carson is astounding. Too bad because the layout is potentially great. The golf course needs a superintendent and grounds crew that have some leeway to make necessary improvements but I'm sure the city could care less. It's a potential gold mine if focus is applied properly. Rebuild the clubhouse and host weddings and corporate events. It's Los Angeles for God's sake!! I'm sure irrigation lines need to be reinstalled and the course needs reseeding and bunker work but it WILL PAY DIVIDENDS despite the pocket-lining opinions of city council...
