Toledo Oldest Public Golf Course
I’ve been playing league games at another city course for two years, and only played a few times on Ottawa Park Course and could immediately tell the differences.
In my opinion Ottawa Park is the most challenging course among four city golf courses, it may relatively shorter compared to Detwiler Park, but adding the huge elevation change makes this course a tough one to play. Not only the player needs to hit the ball straight, but also needs to play smart.
Not all the time you aim in the middle of the fairway is a good choice, because the middle of the fairway could happen to be a slope slide either to the right or to the left. Hitting not long enough could be a big trouble especially when the green in on the top of the hill. Hitting too long you will find the fairway ends before the carry distance. Hitting the ball too high you will find the branches on both sides are against you, hitting the ball too shallow you will find the ball stuck in the middle of the uphill. I probably only need to use 4 clubs to play entire Detwiler Park, but will need to use all 14 clubs to find the optimized combination to get a good result out of Ottawa Park.
The course itself is maintained much better compared to the other three city courses, and makes me wondering if the city spent more funds on Ottawa Park. The only suggestion I would give to improve the course is to change out the cups on the green and trim the grass on the edge of the cups.
Bottom line is, I recommend this course to anyone who wants to spend a decent time without bankruptcy, and don’t worry about the result and enjoy the course itself. I definitely will go back to play again and may also recommend our league committee to switch to Ottawa Park next year.
Nice course with good value
This was my third time playing this course so I was familiar with this course. Most par 3 are on the very short side, but there are a variety of hole distances that allow you to use multiple clubs in your bag. It is getting late in the season so some tee boxes were a little beat up, as well as some fairways with multiple dry/bare patches. The greens appeared to be in great shape. Also, since fall is approaching there are a few holes where the tree leaves on the ground will make it nearly impossible to find your ball. I still like this course as it's not too difficult and for the price it is hard to beat.
Challenging Quaint Course
I typically choose to golf this course 1-2 times a year. It may be an older, shorter course, but it has a lot of challenging holes. It has multiple sand traps, different elevations, many tree-lined fairways, and a few water obstacles. The day I went, but it was a bit slow. Fortunately, you can find shade near each tee box to park your cart while waiting. Being a public course, you will encounter various degrees of golfers - from beginners to seasoned veterans. The care of the course has improved over the past few years. I trust that will continue. Overall, it's worth the 4 hour round.
Oldest course west of New York!
A classic, short par 4s course, with fun par 3s and a few nice par 5s that take you for a loop! Always enjoy playing and the carts are newly updated so you can charge your phone and speaker!
Virginia Foursome
Very fun course, very friendly helpful and citrus staff. Would play again.
The Majestic Ottawa Park
Such a fun course and very affordable. They have made a ton of improvements this year! New bunkers and way better greens than previous years. You can tell that the people running it really care about the course, and it is always a great time for golfers at any level!
You should block out tee times if there are two leagues. I was behind the slowest foursome I’ve ever seen and in front of them was the second slowest. If I’d known there were leagues I’d have played somewhere else.
Historic Golf Course
A hidden gem in The City of Toledo
Lots of hills and challenges for the novice and seasoned golfer.
It is what it is
Tucked into the heart of Toledo it’s hard to find a better course within city limits. Always a bit pricey considering you get typically the bare minimum customer service at the “Pro Shop” other than the cash grab, and if you want a hotdog at the turn Good luck. Maybe somebody’s in the kitchen. Probably not. But maybe. Should you just grab it yourself and leave the money? You figure it out. I had to.
The course itself is ok. Maintained well enough. Always plays tough for me despite some fairly straight forward holes.
I don’t mind coming here but it’s never my first choice. Hang on I’m gonna grab a dog and a Pepsi. “Hello? Hello? Anyone?”
Good course
Enjoyed playing the course. Out there early and had the course almost to ourselves. Multiple holes with no tee markers, some greens were railroaded, sand was real bad although time of the year makes a difference.
With that said it’s a beautiful setting, a historic course and a fair price. Would definitely play again and recommend.
Rough course
Course was extremely muddy and tee boxes were in rough shape. Cart paths were broken and over taken by bushes in areas. Staff was nice but appeared they didn’t want to be there. Would not recommend
Ok course
The course is rather short. The day I played was members day, so I had to wait behind four somes for the front nine. Club house amenities rather small.
Too Slow
The wait at every hole was 15-30 minutes. I think it was overbooked for the holiday weekend.
Pricey
User-Friendly front 9. A tad tad tougher on the back nine. Definitely overpriced but well- kept

Great layout but work is needed!
I really enjoyed the challenge of the course’s layout but major work is still needed on the greens and fairways.
Ottawa Park Review…it’s ok
First, between hot deal and golf now credit we only paid $20 for 18 and cart….so that lowered our expectations. First, the positives. Staff is super friendly and the pace of play was excellent…we finished in 3 hours, which is pretty awesome on a Friday afternoon. The negatives…greens were terribly slow. Not expecting country club speed, but they’re the slowest I’ve played this year at a public course. Multiple greens/fairways had burnout spots, which was surprising considering the weather has been awesome. Overall, for what we paid we received fair value.

Beautiful grounds
Of course was very nice. People were friendly and each hole was a challenge. The pace of play was very fast. I let two groups go past us as we played and a third one was on our heels. Kind of new to this coughing thing so maybe that's why Phil would recommend this course to anyone. It was a little more expensive than most
