English Turn Golf & Country Club
About
English Turn Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design that was crafted in 1988 to host the New Orleans PGA Tour event. Nicklaus designed the course to be enjoyed equally by spectators and golfers, incorporating gallery berms and spectator mounds throughout. This challenging design is known for its undulating greens that will test even the most seasoned players. Each hole has a unique design that combines strategically placed bunkers, including large waste bunkers, and sloping grass swales. There is also carefully sculpted mounding along the edges of the fairways. On top of that, water comes into play on nearly every hole. English Turn's signature hole, the 15th, is a tricky par 5 with an island green but it's the final hole, a par 4 with water all along the left side, that is rumored to be the golf course's toughest.

Top Notch
Really Nice Course
Given August heat in La, was in great condition
Mike in Pro Shop was very accomidating
Old Hidden Gem!!!
For a course built in 1988, it is one of the top three courses in the New Orleans metro area IMO. Great condition and worth the price.
Excellent customer service
From the bag drop, the pro shop, to the starter, out on the course and finally back to the clubhouse could not have been treated better felt like a member. Oh and yes the course was in outstanding shape. a must play
Gorgeous and challenging course
This course is extremely well kept. The starter was informative and friendly. The driving area and chipping greens were great. I will say, this course can be challenging, and somehow, I missed the 17th hole altogether while following the cart path, so maybe some additional signage... or I'm just an idiot, lol. I would definitely recommend this course.
Great Time
Awesome course, great value. Played as a single and everyone let me play through as needed. Buzzed through in roughly 3 hours.
Course Review
Course was in very good condition but very challenging. Golfer must be a shot maker as water comes in to play on most holes with plenty of fairway and waste bunkers. Greens are small in in most cases elongated making them seem even smaller protected by bunkers and water. Good Luck!!
Fun Course
In a city that doesn't have any hills, this course has a fun layout and will come back when we can find a good deal!
Great course on a great day
Beautiful course and layout, very well maintained. The staff was professional and courteous. Greens were a bit tough had to be confident with your line. Can't wait to play there again.
Always in good condition
I've played here dozens of times and I wish the course would host a professional golf tournament again. It is a good test of golf. The course is always maintained in near tournament condition. The Bermuda fairways have grown in beautifully. Always a good lie.
My only complaint is a minor one: the grass on the greens was a little higher than usual and it appears that there is another grass type trying to establish itself. But from what I know about golf course maintenance, you need to let the grass grow out occasionally for one reason or another. And as for mixture of grasses, it isn't nothing a good spraying won't fix. So don't let this dissuade you from playing here. When the greens are mowed tightly as is typical, the ball rolls true (and fast).
Ehh So So
Course was just about as I expected it to be, although I did expect the greens to be in better shape.
They were not bad but they definitely were not good by a long shot.
Magnifique golf
Le parcours était dans un excellent état. Les départs recommandés correspondent parfaitement au niveau des golfeurs pour garder son plaisir de jouer tout en étant "challenging".
Beautiful course
First playing this course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The layout is beautiful with water in play on every hole. There are a few island greens that give this rather flat course some more challenges. Like other Jacks' courses, there are some big sand areas along the fairways on many holes. It is a fun course.
One Time
Course was in really good shape for this time of year. Greens were really good. A number of challenging holes within this really good layout. Well maintained. Hot deal was definitely worth it.

Absolutely beautiful course with great layout, lots of water, dog legs and island green. Just awesome place. 1 of the top 5 tracks I have played
A must in South Louisiana
The layout is challenging (especially in the wind) but it is a great challenge, and one I would recommend to anyone playing golf in the New Orleans Area!
Bring your best iron play
Really glad I decided to squeeze in an afternoon round at this former site for the New Orleans PGA Tour event after a business trip. This Nicklaus design sits south of the city on the other side of the Mississippi River. It is a private club that offers select public tee times. Water comes into play on all 18 holes. Grass depressions are prominent features around the green and several fairways. What really stuck out to me about English Turn is the size of the greens. They're small. Really small. They are akin to Harbour Town, and reflect the same pitch and subtle movements of that Nicklaus co-design. It was a bit wet from recent rain a couple of days before, but the fairways were not bad. Being below sea-level, area courses are going to be a little damp more than not anyway, but this course drains very well. The greens were rolling 8 to 9, according to the very helpful starter. To me they played a little slower than I prefer, but allowed for aggressive putts without fear of rolling them too far by. I think this, too, was more of a product of the dormancy this time of year. The flow of the course works very well. This course is very open off the tee, despite some large fairway waste bunkers utilized throughout. Long hitters will score very well here. The par 5s are all reachable with mid-to-long irons. My favorite holes on the course were the short par 4s, particularly Nos. 4, 10 and 13. I played the combo Blue/white tees that measured 6,100 yards and a 5-iron on No. 4 set up a neat shot with a gap wedge to a shallow green perched on a peninsula. No. 10 invites a 3W over the collection of bunkers on the right side of the fairway, setting up another wedge approach that flirts with water. What I liked about 13 was the green itself. It is hourglass shaped and runs horizontally, creating a bowl effect toward the center. Bottom line: you can swing away off the tee, but if your iron game isn't on point, plan on having to get up and down all day around these dwarf greens.

Best course in New Orleans
This is hands down the best course in the greater New Orleans area. I have played every course around & this one is always in excellent condition & picture perfect. Best facilities & rated #1 in my opinion.
Great course for 60 bucks
I played this course on a December morning following a couple days of heavy rain. It was so wet they didn't open the driving range. There was standing water in many of the bunkers. I was thinking I had been foolish to book and pay for my tee time in advance to get the "Hot Deal". The bright side was that I practically had the entire course to myself... and it turned out the course was in very good shape, It was remarkable.
Thanks to the unusual circumstances of playing virtually alone at such a low price, I had a very pleasant time, and I'd play there again. I can't imagine paying the normal $150 non-resident rate though.
