English Turn Golf & Country Club
About
English Turn Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design that was crafted in 1988 to host the New Orleans PGA Tour event. Nicklaus designed the course to be enjoyed equally by spectators and golfers, incorporating gallery berms and spectator mounds throughout. This challenging design is known for its undulating greens that will test even the most seasoned players. Each hole has a unique design that combines strategically placed bunkers, including large waste bunkers, and sloping grass swales. There is also carefully sculpted mounding along the edges of the fairways. On top of that, water comes into play on nearly every hole. English Turn's signature hole, the 15th, is a tricky par 5 with an island green but it's the final hole, a par 4 with water all along the left side, that is rumored to be the golf course's toughest.

Nice One in New Orleans
This course is recognizable from the years of hosting the PGA Tour stop in New Orleans. Most Tee shots are not too long but accuracy is needed. Bunkers were all in good shape with fine grain sand. The Greens had recently been rolled and were in great shape and insanely hard to read and put...this to me would be the only reason the pros had any difficulty here. Staff (especially James the starter) were great. Played with several members and had a great time.
Unique Track
Great design, unique layout. Meandering moat comes into play on every hole. Greens are small, a little slow.
Great golf course just outside of New Orleans
I booked a mid afternoon tee time on a Saints game day so the course was wide open for the most part and pace of play was not an issue. The driving range is located right next to hole #1 and is available for use. I did not use the putting practice area or notice if they had a chipping area. The starter at the first tee was first rate in letting me know everything plus more that I needed to know about is course. I also saw him twice more during my 1st 9 holes where he was just checking to see how things were. I did not see a cart girl, but that was not an issue as your cart comes with 2 cold water bottles. Great course that is easy to follow for first timers. Not as many blind shots as others have stated. Greens were all in great condition except for the 1st par 3 on the back 9, but I birded that hole so not really gonna complain . Will definitely be back when I get a chance.
Slow, very slow
We played the English Turn Cours for the first time. The layout is very interesting and the course is in a good shape. But ....the pace of play was very slow. Firstly we had a group of eight players, non-golf-players from a wedding-group, who have had the golfclubs for the first time in their hands, in front of us. This happened on a premium time, on Saturday at 11 a.m. The slowest round of golf in the U.S. we ever played.
Fun course to play. Play if you can.
The course was in great shape. Lots of fun to play. Great mixture of holes. Staff was great, especially the starter. Much better course and value than TPC of Louisiana. If you can only play one round while in New Orleans. Play English Turn.
Great experience
The staff couldn't have been nicer. Great practice range with FREE balls! Very challenging course. A lot of sand and water comes into play. Glad I had my phone app so I could see hole routing. No maps on the score card or tee. Greens very fast. Look like they had been rolled. If you want to play a tour like course, this is it.
Very challenging course
It was tough for 1st time playing and score card didn't show layout of the holes but it was frustrating and enjoyable as most golfers know all about
English Turn
The course was in great condition, Tee to Green. I really enjoyed the overall experience and will return.
Top 3 course in Greater New Orelans
This course is and excellent course. It has everything you need to challenge your golf skills. It is a former PGA venue course meticulously maintained. The professionalism of the staff is second to none. There are no downsides to this course. A must if you want to treat yourself to an awesome golf experience in New Orleans.
Save you money
I played as a guest for $40 on a GolfNow deal that was spur of the moment. I played solo and was supposed to pair up with a 2some but it never happened so they sent me out solo. No big deal. Until I came up on a group of SEVEN members playing at once. They are members, I get it, these games are common. But nother once in 3 holes did they ask if I would like to play thru. They just continued to play and look at me while I waited for 20 minutes each shot. I finally got fed up and left on my 3rd shot into #11. If this is how members treat their guests, I can see why the course has gone WAY downhill. The course layout is OK and the practice range is nice. But the greens are overgrown where they aren't burned out and the roll snakes every putt. The only positive out of my trip was the starter. He was great. I played for 60% off so that means theyou charge over 100 bucks to play that course. If you asked me, I wouldn't even pay $40 to play English Turn again. I'm a 3 handicap and was actually looking for a club to join now that I'm back in NOLA. It WILL NOT BE English Turn. Do yourself a favor and take your money to Lakewood. Better course and you won't have to wait on a 7some of members that won't let you play through.
Best course I played in NOLA but...
This was by far the nicest course I played living in New Orleans for a year; however, for the expense of the course (typically around $100) I expect to not have patchy dirt covered greens. The fairways and bunkers were well kept but putting was difficult because of the dirt patches.
Great course
We actually played the course twice. The track was in great shape with a nice layout. There was water on a number of holes, but it didn't come into play unless you hooked/sliced your shot. I'd play again if I had the chance.
Best Alternative to TPC Louisiana
This is the former home of the PGA event in New Orleans so it has to be good and challenging. Played early with a very nice guy from Brooklyn. No one in front or behind and played in just over 3 hours without rushing. Course was damp from recent rains and played long - go to the whites unless you are a bomber. Smallest greens I have ever played on and they were slow and a little bumpy due to an infestation of some kind. Difficult bunkers - small and slit-like. Highly recommended. Good value.
Probably the most challenging layout in the Nola area...
And therefore the most fun/entertaining in my opinion.
Friendly staff and great layout, but
overpriced at a guest fee/daily rate of $100.
All the staff (club house, golf shop, starter, cart return) and members were very friendly and helpful.
The course layout and flow is great, but unfortunately, the greens were in terrible shape and fairways in some places are in need of some TLC.
Our pace of play was negatively impacted by a fivesome that had teed off a few groups ahead of us. They did leave other groups play through, but somehow when me and my playing partner caught up with them, they never invited our twosome to play through. We ended up skipping a par 3 to by pass the group and then the pace of play was perfect... .
If you can play the course at a lower rate, I would recommend it to play it for the layout and be prepared for some rough putting greens. Otherwise, I would consider spending my money somewhere else.
Fun and challenging
This is a real fun course to play. Long game challenge is worth the swing. Go play it!!!
Love it! Great layout to play.
Very happy every time I play there it's great place.
Lucky Find
Last minute decision but when I arrived at the course an hour early the Pro Shop's friendly gentleman offered to let me go out early as a single if I chose to. I ended up practicing a little, they have a beautiful practice area.
I asked the Starter to pair me up if possible and he went out of his way to see that I would not play alone as there were some foursome ahead of me.
Overall a great day...
First Time Treat
This was the first time playing English Turn. Considering all of the rain we have had recently, the course was in fantastic condition. The weather was fantastic, the course was challenging but not impossible, the staff was very friendly. Could not beat the deal we got on golfnow. I will play here as often as possible.
A Gem
This is a great course in New Orleans. A higher cost than most, but a great course.
