English Turn Golf & Country Club
About
English Turn Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design that was crafted in 1988 to host the New Orleans PGA Tour event. Nicklaus designed the course to be enjoyed equally by spectators and golfers, incorporating gallery berms and spectator mounds throughout. This challenging design is known for its undulating greens that will test even the most seasoned players. Each hole has a unique design that combines strategically placed bunkers, including large waste bunkers, and sloping grass swales. There is also carefully sculpted mounding along the edges of the fairways. On top of that, water comes into play on nearly every hole. English Turn's signature hole, the 15th, is a tricky par 5 with an island green but it's the final hole, a par 4 with water all along the left side, that is rumored to be the golf course's toughest.

Good course conditions, great weather and friendly staff
The greens were transitioning but still rolled well even though a little bumpy. This course is always fun to play, good layout and one always has to think on approach and chip shots with some difficult lies around the greens. The food and drink were excellent at the 19th hole. Will play again soon. clm
Highly recommend
Played this course a few times in the past. Today I was paired with two out of towners who were playing it for the first time. Course in great shape, greens pretty firm and quick and fairways were perfect. Only drawback was lots of fresh sand in the bunkers so I got a few buried lies (probably getting them ready for the Zurich Classic Qualifier in a few weeks). Staff friendly as usual and pace of play was very good. You need to place tee shots in the right place for best chance to score. Had a good score despite pretty windy conditions on the back side. THe other two in the group were impressed with the conditions and layout.
Great Louisiana Hospitality
Got a nice GolfNow deal but it didn't stop the staff from treating me great, as if I were a member. Nice practice facility with lot's of balls to hit and separate driving, chipping, and putting areas. The course was challenging because of the water, deep bunkers and quick greens but not unfair. The staff were all very nice and the folks in the restaurant delivered a very good Shrimp Po'boy. Allin all, great day and highly recommended.
Bring your "A" game
Played this course with my girlfriend. The course is pretty wide open but there are bunkers EVERYWHERE. Plenty of strategic fairway bunkers and most greens are surrounded by them so there are not many run up approaches. 5 sets of tees so you can bite off as much or little as you want. Very playable and the staff is awesome. Range balls included in the price which was nice. One par 5 island green hole which is always fun. Did not see any alligators out there but would have loved to. For the price would definitely go back.
Need A Course Like This @ Home
Took the advise of the reviewers & played this course on our recent visit. We're from Florida so the course was different than most here & challenging as heck. Course in great shape even though we played after a Junior Tournament in the morning. Appreciate course keeping normal conditions despite some heavy rain the previous days. Playing later in day we wouldn't have finished if it was cart path only. Wanted a challenge @ a great course and got it! Small greens made precision a must & although I was off my game I still had a great time. Will keep this course in mind in future visits to the Big Easy.
English Turn-NOLA
Great course and practice area. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Slick greens and challenging layout while being very fair.
Fun layout
Nice course, I will definitely play this course again. The greens are in great condition.
Good course
Would recommend to anybody. November and course is still in good condition
Former PGA course, must play
We had a Golfnow special for $45 with cart! Greens rolled true and were consistent. They work on this course constantly to keep it up to tournament standards.
wonderful fairways and gorgeous greens
Beautiful sunny day temperature in the lower 70's, the course was gorgeous. Fairways cut and well defined by a rough that is tough. I've been playing public courses lately and forgot the difference of a PGA course and public courses. The greens are much smaller and very much faster. Overall great round on a beautiful course, looking forward to playing again.
Not very happy
Did not play. When my friends and I arrived there we were about to pay for our round and were informed that the 45 dollar fee was only for 9 holes. I made the tee time from my phone and saw nothing to indicate that this was not an 18 hole tee time. My golf buddy later looked on his home computer and said it's easily visible on it but not his phone. We can't afford 90 rounds of golf. Thanks.
Beautiful golf course
Beautiful golf course, people friendly. We look forward to play again.
Worth a visit
Played in mid-October 2014 with a bunch of guys for a bachelor weekend in NOLA. Good practice facilities.
Hot & humid day, but play was fast. Would've finished in under 4 hours if not for a 30-45 thunderstorm. Not a fan of Nicklaus's numerous grass bunkers guarding already very small greens. However, conditions were pretty good. Greens are fast. Island green on 15 (?) was a fun challenge.
After the round, I got to the bar after it had already closed. Kevin the bartender took pity on my rain-soaked self and made me a drink as long as I was ok paying cash. My 2 friends came and he made us all a nice strong Hurricane. The cup was probably 20 oz. His hospitality was truly memorable. Try getting just a not-bad attitude at Bethpage.
The locker room has showers, as it was originally built to be a private club. THEY ALSO HAVE A STEAM & SAUNA! STEAM AND SAUNA?!?! Yes. Steam & sauna.
So bring an extra change of clothes, enjoy your fast round, have a hurricane made by Kevin, then melt away in the steam room. Any questions?
A Must Play Course In The New Orleans Area!
Awesome course that is manicured to perfection. Every aspect of this course is well maintained, from tee box to green. Two thumbs up and 10 out of 10.
even when it rains
very nice staff, course was in great shape, after 5 holes had a rain and lighting delay for about 1 1/2 hrs but was able to go back out a finished , course drained fairly well for the amount of rain,, only bad thing was the pro shop closed before i finished and wasn't able to purchase some things I wanted
This Course is Awsome
Very Nice Greens on This Course. We loved it very much
I recommend English Turn Golf Club
I had clients in New Orleans from out of town and they wanted to play golf. I am not a member at English Turn but you would never know it. The staff was great and the course is in excellent condition this summer.
Almost perfect
Splendid day in the baking Louisiana sunshine. The untidy layout was confusing at first but it didn't spoil the round. The greens were very impressive and ran fast and true. Worth paying that little bit extra to experience this. A top class day out and I highly recommend a visit.
