English Turn Golf & Country Club
About
English Turn Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design that was crafted in 1988 to host the New Orleans PGA Tour event. Nicklaus designed the course to be enjoyed equally by spectators and golfers, incorporating gallery berms and spectator mounds throughout. This challenging design is known for its undulating greens that will test even the most seasoned players. Each hole has a unique design that combines strategically placed bunkers, including large waste bunkers, and sloping grass swales. There is also carefully sculpted mounding along the edges of the fairways. On top of that, water comes into play on nearly every hole. English Turn's signature hole, the 15th, is a tricky par 5 with an island green but it's the final hole, a par 4 with water all along the left side, that is rumored to be the golf course's toughest.

Great course. Excellent staff.
Overall the course was great to play. The greens are small, which will challenge anyone's approach game. The staff was excellent. They did a great job of monitoring pace of play and the beverage cart was never far.
Great Day at TheTurn
I have had the opportunity to play all over Louisiana and must say that my time at English Turn has been one of the most enjoyable. Relative to the current home of the PGA Tour event, these greens are smaller and more challenging. I liked the premium on accuracy off the tee. I also liked the options you had on 2nd shots into the par 5's. The clubhouse and staff within were first rate. The practice facilities are also first rate. Time well spent and I will be back!
Kindest Regards,
Frank Davis
Greens need work
One of the most beautiful courses you will find in New Orleans. That being said, I was shocked how beat up some of the greens were. Still worth every penny, but its a shame such a nice course has 6-8 greens that look like an unkempt municipal course.
English Turn
It was a great day for golf, they had alot of rain the last two days. They had the 90 degree rule but the course dried out. Everyone there was super friendly, good food, great staff and cart girl on each 9 even though they weren't busy. Nice to have a ice cold beer in the summer heat.
It was just ok
Fairways were great, greens need a lot of attention
very aveage course - tiny greens
I thought that I would play English Turn while I was in NOLA. Since it was a course that hosted a minor PGA tour event, I thought it would be a great course. It is a very average course in my opinion and for some strange reason, it was designed with tiny greens. Not sure what Nicklaus was thinking. I had forgot to load the course into my Sky Caddie, so I had to use the sprinkler heads and I was confused at first since there were 2 distances on each head with 12-20 yeard between the distances. I found out later that is the distance to the front and the back. So some holes had greens that were 12 paces deep. There was plenty of room for normal sized greens, so I'm not sure the reason for the little greens. The other thing I didin't like was that there was no notice of the greens having been recently aerated. I consider etiquette to be the most important aspect of the game, and when a course doesn't tell you about aerated greens, to be that is the height of poor etiquette. I know that sometimes Golf Now shows an A to indicate aeration, but there was no notice for English Turn. They appear to be into their 2nd or 3rd week so they weren't terrible, but they were far from normal. Again, just poor etiquette by the course and possibly Golf Now.
Excellent.
Excellent restaurant, perfect range, lucky for me the greens were just sanded. Slowed things down a bit, but every putt was true. Pass this one on to Jack. Thank You. Thinking about joining.
The fairways are perfect
This was my first time playing English Turn and was able to take advantage of super special pricing. The overall course is in great shape with the fairways being perfect. The greens are good with some suffering with some bare spots & the sand was packed in some of the traps. This course has very roomy fairways and even with water along most of them there is plenty of space to place a shot. Very helpful staff and worth playing again. All of foursome enjoyed playing English Turn.
English Turn golf & Country Club
The course at English Turn is very challenging. The course condition was very nice. However, the greens are in bad shape. Bare spots are everywhere and it is hard to get a good read on the greens because of these spots. I am not sure what type of grass they are, but they should have gone with tiff-eagle. I played two other courses with tiff-eagle and the greens were perfect. I was also taken back by the extra charge at the club house. My reservation said $87.50 due at course but I paid an additional $8.00 which I was not aware of. You might check with the pro shop on the full amount due.
Extremely interesting and challenging course. Saw an alligator and other awesome wildlife to boott!!
Some of the funnest holes I have ever played. Jack Nicklaus must have had a grin on his face designing some of them.
Great place to play
One of the best courses in New Orleans. The greens need a few weeks to recover from being punched a couple of weeks ago but otherwise in excellent condition.
Play with the pros
This Jack Nicklaus designed former site (until PGA built TPC La.) of the PGA tour stop in New Orleans is a great golf experience. Great, challenging layout is a challenge for all levels of golfers.
poor greens, good layout
greens need a lot of work (bare spots and rough surfaces)
sand traps are inconsistent (not enough sand in traps around the greens)
This course is in need of attention .
The greeens are ruff and bad growth over the top .
Nice course, Island green,
I really liked this course, It has a Elegant, expensive feel. Lots of water and bunkers - Bring your sand wedge. Really nice starter, range and practice facility is nice.
This course has horrible service.
The restaurant manager did not even acknowledge our group when we came in after nine and we did not get to order any food or drinks. We did not bother going in after our round and would never go back to the course ever again.
Everything excellent except the greens.
Booked English Turn as a Hot Deal. Everything went like clockwork at check-in, and both people I talked to were helpful and friendly. The golf course itself was in pristine condition, but the greens definitely had a problem. An employee told me afterward that the person in charge of maintaining the greens had just been fired, and that they were planning to replace the sod on all of them in the near future. This was the only chance I have ever had to play a course that had been used for PGA tournaments, and I really enjoyed it.
Fun and tough
I had a great time at English Turn.
The course very challenging with lots of water that is in play on most holes. The greens are very fast with lots of undulations. The fairways are well maintained
The clubhouse is huge. The amenities were available to use and we'll maintained. The pro shop unfortunately was a little under stocked.
I'd go back
Will definitely play again.
Course is really challenging but playful. What I really liked was that I booked the round on golfnow and thought I was booked to play on a certain day (a wednesday, I get to the course and see that a tournament was ongoing then I realize that my reservation was for a thursday. The staff was cordial and accepted my booking and allowed me to play on the wednasday that I arrived after the tournament was over).
