English Turn Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design that was crafted in 1988 to host the New Orleans PGA Tour event. Nicklaus designed the course to be enjoyed equally by spectators and golfers, incorporating gallery berms and spectator mounds throughout. This challenging design is known for its undulating greens that will test even the most seasoned players. Each hole has a unique design that combines strategically placed bunkers, including large waste bunkers, and sloping grass swales. There is also carefully sculpted mounding along the edges of the fairways. On top of that, water comes into play on nearly every hole. English Turn's signature hole, the 15th, is a tricky par 5 with an island green but it's the final hole, a par 4 with water all along the left side, that is rumored to be the golf course's toughest.

Everything excellent except the greens.

Booked English Turn as a Hot Deal. Everything went like clockwork at check-in, and both people I talked to were helpful and friendly. The golf course itself was in pristine condition, but the greens definitely had a problem. An employee told me afterward that the person in charge of maintaining the greens had just been fired, and that they were planning to replace the sod on all of them in the near future. This was the only chance I have ever had to play a course that had been used for PGA tournaments, and I really enjoyed it.

Fun and tough

I had a great time at English Turn.

The course very challenging with lots of water that is in play on most holes. The greens are very fast with lots of undulations. The fairways are well maintained

The clubhouse is huge. The amenities were available to use and we'll maintained. The pro shop unfortunately was a little under stocked.

I'd go back

Will definitely play again.

Course is really challenging but playful. What I really liked was that I booked the round on golfnow and thought I was booked to play on a certain day (a wednesday, I get to the course and see that a tournament was ongoing then I realize that my reservation was for a thursday. The staff was cordial and accepted my booking and allowed me to play on the wednasday that I arrived after the tournament was over).

beutiful layout, surrounded with water

Nice houses surrounding this layout. Wide fairways and the water comes into play on a few holes. Not extremely difficult at least from the whites. Decent greens compared to other courses we played in the South. Overall very nice.

Fantastic Chance to Experience Golf Like a Professional!

Formerly a stop on the PGA Tour until it was moved after to nearby TPC Louisiana after Katrina. Wonderful layout, but be warned...water on most holes and the greens are small by modern course standards. Very open, so windy days combined with water can present a challenge. The condition was good for this time of year, however the greens were "spotty" with sand in spots and were being repaired in places with new sod. Clear areas were smooth with moderate speed (7-8). Definitely worth being on anyone's "bucket list", convenient to downtown New Orleans, and reasonably priced for a private country club experience. Staff was accomodating, practice facilities were very nice. Played in about 2.5 hours as the first group let me go in front as a single.

Another bucket list course crossed off..

I finally got to play English Turn CC after having this course on my bucket list for many years. I was truly excited to play one of the finer courses in America and yet, another Jack Nickalaus designed course.

The staff was super friendly. Very professional and absolutely took care of you. I did play the championship tees (Gold) stretching over 7,000 yards.. not the longest championship course, but with water appearing in 17 of 18 holes, I can see why this course was deemed difficult for even the PGA ranks.

Hole #15 is truly amazing. It's deceptively difficult and the green is not that big at all. You can leave your self anywhere between 100 to 140 yards for your third shot.. but with the cross winds, you need to commit to your shot and pull the trigger. I was unable to do that. Hole #18 is ridiculously difficult. Water and bunker stretching from tee to green, with the hole length at 467 yards. Yes, the course beat me up pretty bad, however, it also yieled some really satisfying shots which made the experience truly special.

Add this course to your must play. The fairways, greens, bunkers and the design, it's a-la Jack Nicklaus... I think the best course in New Orleans... even better than TPC Louisiana.
