The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Beautiful natural setting! Course conditions for March are better than most on & off of HHI. Challenging layout but playable from all tees. Great staff all the way around. Friendly, professional & very service oriented. Great place. Great group. Recommend it to HHI visitors.

slow play alert

We went on a friday 1pm and was told by the starter who is really cranky that is busy but you should finish in 4 hours. well 3 holes in we are behind. after 9 holes we are sitting at 2.5 hours. I saw the assistant pro talking to the cart girl for 10 min versus getting people to pick up and move. I asked he said we are busy. I called clubhouse got no reason why they would fix it. I am sorry but we are busy is not an excuse. You telling me in Hilton Head in June is it not busy? I could not finish because it was going to be over a 5 hour round. They don't care. They jam people in 8 minute tee times and nobody to monitor pace of play. No way this happens at Palmetto Dunes etc.

I have been playing Old South for almost 30 years. By far and away the best course around. The staff is friendly, and the course is always in excellent shape. The best value on or near Hilton Head.

This course is under major repair

New sprinkler system being installed, so the fairway and area around the greens were in rough shape. Bunker looked like they hadn't been racked in weeks. Greens were poor, slow bumpy and lots Dead of dormant grass.

Fun course - greens were in rough shape.

I really enjoyed this course, there are some fantastic holes however, the greens were in rough shape, a little shaggy and slow.

There are some truly spectacular views, if the greens were in better shape, I would definitely offer a five star review. Even so, I would return here to play, it was a very fun day.

The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, in particular the backdrop staff were outstanding.

Well, worth the price.
