The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Enjoyable round

Got off to a rough start as I was not told "cart paths only" by the starter and when I entered the fairway the cart shut down. After several minutes I was able to get it moving by reversing back to the path. Since I did not know my playing partners (who had been told) this was not what you would want to start. That was the only complaint as the course was in good condition and it is always a good sign when you are disappointed to finish the round.

Lots of variety

Really enjoyed the round at Old Southern golf like most courses in Hilton Head in March a little heat and warm weather will even up the rough spots but the greens where in fairly good shape and ran fairly quick. I would go back in a minute

Great layout

This is a great course to put on your list when in the Hilton Head area. Best conditions I played for late March in the area. It’s a course that the more you play it the better you will enjoy. Some holes require local knowledge. The scenery is outstanding. I will make this my go to course next March.

Played Old South for the first time in late March 2025. Beautiful course and in really great shape for March. Layout was challenging but fair. I've played 8 different courses in and around Hilton Head and this is my favorite so far. One complaint: the "no-see-ums" were so bad I thought about forfeiting my tee time and leaving. Went to the practice green - no better. Once we got on the course we weren't bothered by the gnats. The bug spray sold in the pro shop is useless against these, just keep moving. Fair amount of water and forced carries, but manageable and fairly open..
