The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Must Play in Hilton Head Area

Great day golfing here: from my treatment by the staff, to the great course conditions, and finally to the great low country layout this course is a must play.

The layout and condition of the course were what jumped out for me. Really enjoyed how both mines gave the golfer several great views of the inlets / marshy areas. The conditions for my December round could. It have been better.

Best course we played on our golf mini-vacation

This is a fun, unique course to play. The views are great and the wildlife is amazing. The holes range from moderately easy to moderately difficult. The greens are very nice; not super fast, but not slow either. They do a GREAT job with their winter grass. I would really like to come back when its a bit warmer and drier.

The clubhouse and grill are pretty basic, but the food is good, fairly priced, and the service friendly. The pro-shop is well stocked.

Of the three coursed we visited over the weekend, this is the only one I will definitely visit again. It strikes the perfect balance of a high-quality course, without the stuffiness you find elsewhere on the island. I can't recommend it enough.

Nice Public Course but...

Hilton Head courses traditionally drop the fees after high season which is up until mid-November. This is the reason we traveled to Hilton Head in the past.

It seems all the courses have tried to hold out for higher fees. I think given the weather and cost of golf it is worth a little more travel time to hit Alabama or Florida which is where we will head next year.

I have no knowledge of courses other than Old South where we have always reduced rates on the Monday after Thanksgiving. Our rates are clearly posted on our website so you can check in advance. A little research would save you being surprised but the farther south you go, rates may go up since their "high season" is winter.

Great course,slow play

Disappointed that the computer screen mentioned when we fell behind and a Marshall would come out to move the slow group but never did. Took 5 hours to play

I like the course but the pricing was like for mid-season rates. They should have a reduced seasonal rate. We will look around at other venues if we decide to play more.

We are pleased you enjoyed your golf day at Old South. Rates declined on 12/1 from $115 to $90 for an 18 hole round in the morning. That is our lowest rate of the year.
