The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

ALL Greens BAD!!!

Someone has dropped the ball. This course is normally in pretty good shape but not this time. Old South admitted “ a few “ of their greens need repairs, but currently EVERY!!! (18 ) greens are in disrepair. Bald spots , bare spots, burned spots- name your poison. None of the greens should be in play. To the extent there are 3 temporary greens adjacent to the actual greens under repair. I probably wouldn’t play here until August and only after seeing the repairs.

No one dropped the ball. Greens are in transition from winter grass to summer bermuda. Some years this goes smoothly and quickly but some years it does not. Significant measures are being taken to help the transition and we are currently closed for 2 days to facilitate aerification. June is not the best month for coastal SC golf but all will be well soon.

We love Old South, but this time around was not worth the money…they have a couple temporary greens and the pace of play was terrible…

We are currently closed for aerification which will significantly improve conditions. Greens are in transition from winter grass to summer bermuda. Some years this goes smoothly and quickly but some years it does not. Rates were reduced due to this issue.

It's a bit sad to revisit a course I played many years ago and to find it in the condition it was in. Four temporary greens and there were another 6 that could have been shut down owing to damage. It's a nice layout and the staff are friendly but between the foursome of morons in front of us oblivious to how slow they were playing and the overall condition of the course...I was just glad when the day was over. Please do better.

Course staff was great. 3 greens were under re-construction but many more needed attention. Overall from tee to green the course was great to play.

Old South Disappoinment

I have played this course many times and had always enjoyed until now. The tee boxes are in very bad shape. The greens are very bumpy and patchy with a lot of sand and large areas of no grass. There are 3 temporary greens.

The super has a lot of work to do.

There are much better places to play in the area and cannot recomend playing this course at this time.

Our Superintendent has been here for 32 years and knows the course inside out. Sometimes Mother Nature just has the upper hand temporarily.

Tee to 5 yards from green

First time here. Paid $45, glad that was all I paid. Course itself is nice, a couple memorable holes and outside of the greens, the course was in good shape. The greens were not good. Afraid there is a disease or something affecting them. 3 holes had temporary greens as well. Pace was good, played in under 4 as a threesome.

A Disgrace

Have visited Hilton Head many times over the past 15 years, Old South Golf Links has always been a favourite course to play. The layout with its views is outstanding. But the condition of the course and the greens in particular were extremely poor with some greens no better than compacted mud.

So disappointed will likely never play this course again!!!

Old South Hilton Head

The course itself was a good layout with wonderful views. I enjoyed the round with one exception, and I would guess that it is a common practice for all the courses when out of town play is extensive. The times were gapped too close together. I understand why but a 4 hour round took over five hours. We felt rushed constantly throughout the round. Besides that, I enjoyed the course. (Exceptional chicken salad BTW!)

We regret you felt rushed as that is not our intention. We try to keep a 4 hour & 20 minute pace for 18 holes. Yes...the chicken salad is great and we are glad you tried it!
