The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Beautiful golf course

Starter pair us with two old ladies who were latte for their tee time they didn’t care when we said something to them . The course was busy they didn’t play ready golf they put us almost 45 minutes behind.

Great Course Layout, But..

We had an excellent time at Old South. The he course was in good shape, and the layout is top notch.

However, one thing that was slightly frustrating was that the starter instructed the ranger on 3 separate occasions to remind us of the place of play.

When we started the round, the starter explained to us how the golf cart / gps system will notify us if we’re behind pace.

We finished the round 22 minutes “ahead of schedule”. Not sure why we were constantly being reminded to keep up the pace of place.

Otherwise, I highly recommend playing this course.

Greens transition from winter rye to summer bermuda grass at this time of year. All will be good soon with the continued warm weather.

Old South

Course conditions were somewhat disappointing. White tee boxes were in some cases in need of work.

Fairways were average. Rough was filled with grass sprouts , not very good. Greens and aprons were good, but there were a couple greens that had dead spots. Seemed like a local muni course to me. Sorry course is overpriced for these conditions.

We regret you were less than pleased with your day here. Grass is in transition from winter rye to summer bermuda which takes 3-4 weeks. All will be well soon.

The course has many interesting holes. Several are out by the Marsh and are very challenging. The scenery is beautiful. The course is in fine shape.

Very nice course with some wonderful views

Got a Hot Deal for $80. Much better value than the prices being asked at courses on HHI. Teed off at 7:40 on a Sunday - we were done in 3 1/2 hrs. Some beautiful marsh views. Greens rolled very nicely; fairways and tee boxes were satisfactory. Would definitely play here again.

Pace of Play was Abysmal

We teed off right on time, and immediately started waiting. There was backups on every hole, and the par 3’s were worse: one group putting, another on the tee box, a third group waiting, then us. Not a Ranger or course manager in sight. The course itself is very enjoyable. Wide fairways, but with lots of mounds and water hazards on the edges. The greens were well kept. I play this course every year on my trip to Hilton head; sometimes the pace of play is quick, sometimes not. You take your chances.

Old South regrets your day was less than perfect. There is always a ranger but if you don't see one, a call to the Pro Shop would help. We hope you will give Old South another try.
