Dos Osos Golf Club
About
Dos Osos Golf Club(formerly known as Eagle Crest Golf Club) is routed through the scenic San Pasqual Valley. Its secluded location and challenging layout have made Dos Osos one of San Diego's best-kept secrets. The beautiful layout incorporates cascading waterfalls and eight lakes along with colorful wildflowers and rolling green hills. The diverse golf course is a shot maker's layout that is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. It measures to a manageable 6,417 yards, but it still offers plenty of challenges. In addition to the water hazards, pristine white sand bunkers add a stark contrast to the lush greens. The golf course is narrow, especially on the front nine, which is tighter and has more tree-lined fairways. The bank nine opens up much more. Dos Osos Golf Club rewards accuracy and thoughtful strategy but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Great course for the money
The course was excellent value and the greens were in top condition. I can really recommend this course.
improvement continues
Eagle Crest continues its comeback. Fairways are still a bit spotty in places, but for the most part the course is much better than it was in the Fall. I really liked the greens, how they roll and their speed. I will continue to play this course as even the rough is filling in. I think the course is a 3+ overall.
Great experience
Overall great experience and fantastic price. The course was in great shape; especially the greens considering Spring just started. I played with my girlfriends dad who lives in Murrieta, so Eagle Crest is a great location for us to play since I'm coming from San Diego. We will be back soon.
Discrimination of golfers from Golfnow.com
I have booked tee time through Golfnow for three times in last two months. Every time I received phone calls from golfnow hours before teeing off telling me that my tee times have been cancelled. It seems like Eagle Crest does not welcome golfers from Golfnow, may be the green fee is too low and they can't accept. Yesterday I booked tee time again. When I checked in, the staff said there was no record of my booking even though I showed her the email of my tee time. But they later let me play at scheduled tee time. I think Golfnow have to communicate with Eagle Crest at make sure the above mentioned situations will not occur in the future. The first time playing Eagle Crest was on 2004. I like this golf course.
But I shall not play again until the problem is solved.
I Keep Coming Back
I keep coming back because this course is a good value for the money and getting better each week. Maintenance staff has done a great job of rehabilitating a course that was in disrepair and going downhill fast. That said, course ownership/management can and in my opinion should make some expenditures that will pay dividends down the road. The simplest is to get some ball washers out there as those that are present are generally broken or out of water, The second would be to fix the drainage issues that exists in most of the bunkers and then add some decent quality sand. Thirdly, they need to recognize the importance of senior golfers by adding senior tee blocks, which is no more than picking up 36 rocks, painting them silver or gold and placing them on existing tee boxes. On the longer hole they could be placed behind the ladies red blocks and on the holes more realistically reachable for seniors, ahead of the white tee blocks. Accommodating senior golfers in this way will result in less wear on the white tee blocks. Kudos to the friendly staff in the office and especially the maintenance folks who are doing a great job of turning around the condition of this enjoyable layout which just needs a little more TLC.
Course in great shape
Course in great shape. Greens rolled true and grass was good on tees and fairways. Played day after it rain and the course had drained well and didn't have any standing water outside of some of the traps.
Eagle Crest May Yet Survive
Given the rash of course closures and declining condition of Eagle Crest I have feared it would be next on the chopping block, but I'm beginning to see some hope. Grounds keeping staff deserves a good deal of credit for their efforts to improve playing conditions of this course. Greens that have always been pretty good IMO are even better and over the last month or so the tee boxes have improved as well. Repair and adjustment of the irrigation system has improved fairway conditions from poor to fair.
In short, it seems that course conditions are better and should continue to improve with rain projected for March and longer photoperiods to improve turf growth.
The negatives however are pretty significant. While some bunkers have been improved, the majority have not due to both a lack of drainage in many that have standing water and and absence of sand or sand that is of poor quality.
Yet another detail that is overlooked is the fact that most ball washers are missing and that the few that remain are broken (as on #2 tee), or out of water. This is a matter of course management needing to pay more attention to detail and devoting some money for replacements.
As a final note, they can make the course more attractive to senior and/or short hitters by painting rocks silver and using them as tee box markers placed to the rear of the ladies red tees or ahead of the white tees on the standard tee boxes. No need to for a separate tee box - just 36 more rocks which are free.
The mean age of golfers has grown steadily older and along with that their distance off the tees. Generally, they don't want to play from the ladies tees but are willing to take a "senior" tee to help make up for their steadily increasing distance gap, which in turn gives them a chance to reach greens in regulation and post better scores.
Have Always Enjoyed This Course
Have been playing this course on and off for almost 20 years. I have to say that the course is not in very good shape compared to when I use to play it. But the low green fees reflect that. Not much quality course maintenance going on, but the greens were not that bad. Course would be amazing if they had the money to keep it green! Would recommend playing if you haven't before.
Eagle Crest is on the up and up
I came to this course in 2014, pulled up to the parking lot and saw all the brown grass and drove away. First time playing today and the greens were just fabulous, the fairways were decent. Edge of fairways and rough need alot of work still. The layout was good, water on and around many holes. This is a hidden gem, as long as they keep improving it . I chipped in on the 3rd or 4th hole, what a feeling, and almost chipped in on 17. Fun, fun course.
Enjoyable course
Great layout, green are fast and true, tee boxes in good condition. Fairways are coming but still a work in progress. Good to see the effort being made to revive this wonderful course. Enjoyed it. Keep it up!
Eagle Crest, Escondido, CA
I really love the picturesque setting of this course. It needs some work but new ownership is making a difference. Can be challenging but course knowledge makes it more playable. I think for the money it is well worth a shot.
The course has great features with these tight lies deep bunkers
Eagle Crest is looking very good the greens are in beautiful shape. the fairways are starting to get green again there is white sand in the sand traps the course is coming along very good improvements. The tea boxes are in pretty good shape too. I will definitely be back to play Eagles Crest again.
Pros and cons...
Slow play, no starter, rude staff. There are two-somes between 5-somes and no one regulates or seems to care much here. The course looks much better though. It’s a great layout and kudos to the new course maintenance team.
Nice place
Enjoyed the course. A challenging & unique course. Greens in excellent shape. Fairways good for winter play.

Good morning James. Sorry for the situation you experienced with your reservation through Golf Now and our golf course.
We are looking further into why your tee time was canceled? I would like to speak to you directly if possible, so myself and our team can resolve the issue and prevent this from happening in the future.
Respectfully,
M. Umphreyville GM Eagle Crest GC 760-737-9762
