PGA WEST Pete Dye Dunes Course

This was the last of eight rounds we played out here in eight days. It was the best known of the courses, which we figured accounted as well for the higher green fee we paid. We were excited about playing here, BUT: the lady in the pro shop was not friendly at all and became pretty snotty when our faces showed our disappointment at the driving range being closed. “The tee time confirmation email told you not to expect the driving range.” I didn’t respond to her, but Ummm, no it didn’t!! The starter was a very nice guy and he told us all about the new greens, that they’re bigger, very undulating and that they wouldn’t hold a shot….. he was correct. The pace was not good at all. Eight guys all together in two foursomes in front of us that held up the entire course the whole round. Marshall came to us on 11 and said he’d asked them to pick up the pace…. They never did and he was never back around to enforce his request. Wouldn’t recommend playing this course for many months to come so that those new greens can settle in. They were hard as rocks. That, coupled with the snotty lady in the pro shop, the high green fee and the poor pace of play made us sorry that we’d added this to our vacation rotation.

Not worth the money. Once upon a time it may have been a well conditioned course, now not well maintained, no sand bunkers , ruts and weeds in waste areas. Restaurant closed before we finished. No notice that there are no warmup or practice facilities, not even a net to warm up in.

Save your money PGA West is all marketing

The bunkers (oh yeah, hazards) were crusty and are in need of conditioning. This is especially true because of deep bunkers next to elevated greens….and most of the greens are quite elevated.

The greens were bumpy, it looked as if they had never been rolled. The cups had frayed edges. The tees were not level. To say the least this course was very disappointing and definitely not worth the money.

I expected so much more from a PGA West course!!!!

This was our second time playing this course. This time we made 18, but the last hole was in the dark. Group in front of us were taking multiple shots from the tee with no consideration of people behind them. So a bit slow. No marshalls to help out.

The course itself was in good shape. VERY fast greens. SUPER fast, almost unplayable per the gentlemen in our group. Us ladies were more forgiving of the conditions. It was hard, but you deal with what you have.

The absence of a driving range to warm up was a major negative. Some adjustment to the price should have been made.

Got there 40 mins before tee time. They’d closed the driving range and the pushy pro shop personnel told us to go straight onto the tee so that they could space out a corporate event behind us a little more. Felt we had to ask permission to grab a to go coffee. We asked if we could use the indoor range bays right there next to the pro shop, which were all on and empty, but told it was booked.

Starter put big emphasis that they had a full course that day with hundreds of players. Before starting they put a marshal into a cart behind us who followed us through to the third hole. He saw we were waiting at each tee for group in front then he went away, probably to stalk the next group behind us!

Course in great shape except for some rough and the driving range that were drowned during the winter rains. Greens are quick and diabolical.

I went to check in and was told I had no reservation which I pulled up on my phone and told her she was mistaken, after 15 minutes of back and forth I paid an extra 8 bucks and we played golf. Baloney!

Lack of access to driving range a notable disappointment

The isn’t any flats areas on the greens, be prepared for that.

Course conditions were terrible. Flooding took large area out of play. Rough was not properly maintained Greens were hard as rock.

Love this course, but the twosome ( Husband & wife)we played with were terrible, they drove up to the ladies tee box ahead of us teeing off.

Really ruined our round of golf
