Firm Greens
Green complex renovation resulted in firm greens. I hit a high ball and only had to fix 2 shallow ball marks. Forces you to club down to allow roll out, which is tricky because of the false fronts. Until these greens mature, this will be a difficult test for anyone above a 10 handicap.
Another Dye-abolical Butt Kicking
Let’s be fair. Pete Dye courses and my 12 hdcp don’t mix! His tracks are killer. To be perfectly clear, this is a very fine track. For me, over the top difficult. The folks in my playing circle would not be happy if I recommended such a hard course. Elevated greens. Hard and fast. All but one of the few I hit in regulation held. Even from up tees (silver) it ate me alive. Waited on almost every shot. But here’s the deal. I had a great day. Terrific practice facility. Paired with nice people. The staff is a delight. So my gripe isn’t with PGA. It’s with ME! Stop playing Pete Dye-abolical courses. For me, 18 holes of torture.
Excellent course great staff
Super fast greens that have all been rebuilt The great test of gold The great test of gold
Fantastic experience
Absolutely great course. Greens are like pool tables so if you don't spin it like Mickelson, don't go flag hunting. Expansive landing areas give you great looks at the greens. Staff is excellent. Views are spectacular.
Pete Dye Personified
This is just a great course. The service and the amenities when you get there are first rate. The course is in very good shape, but be warned, the greens are hard in every meaning of the word. Undulating greens can leave you in some unexpected and difficult spots, but that is the Pete Dye signature touch. You have to embrace it. The course marshals did a good job of hustling a couple slower groups along, so we finished right on four hours. Only drawback among amenities was the restaurant/lounge was closed at 5 PM.
Diabolical
I said "Darn you Pete Dye" at least a dozen times. Greens are diabolical but it was a blast.
Wicked new greens
I’ve been playing this course for over 35 years. This Summer they redesigned all the greens and switched from bent/ Bermuda to TifDwarf/ Bermuda grass. The greens are much bigger than before and completely tricked out. Who ever did the redesign should pay off the LSD next time. There are areas that area ridiculous to putt. This course is now up there with the Norman and Terra Lago North for having some of the most difficult public greens in the Valley
Great course
Great course, nice layout. The staff was help and so was the club pro. Definitely rebooking here.
rude staff John at the reception desk
Pointing at my 8 year old daughter with his false statement, and treating my group like transpasser . Ruined whole mood playing at all ,would be happy to have a call with their management.Beware if you can’t handle racism services.
This is why I don't like Pete Dye
I played here with my son in the PGA Family Championship. The event was amazing. The first round was on the Dunes Course.
It is important to note that I really don't like Pete Dye courses, especially the green complexes.
The lay out of the course was fine. Good shots taking aggressive lines was rewarded with shorter and simpler approach shots. That is typical of Pete Dye and I loved that aspect of the Dunes.
It is important to note that they just reopened the greens about a month ago. The need to get more play and mature. They are rock hard and every green is contoured like a Ruffles Potato Chip. Be prepared for well executed shots to spin off the green's multiple false fronts or have it rocket off the shoulder into a sand or grass bunker. Leave your green repair tool in your bag. You will not need it.
OK
Ok course, new greens, did not hold at all...Super slow play not addresses by course Marshall ( Group in front of us hitting numerous shots from all over the course, Course Marshall watched them on three occasions and did not say anything to speed up play, with two open holes in front of them
Screwed up a good course
We played this course several years ago and it was one of our favorites. I was greatly disappointed on my return. The starter mentioned they had redone the greens last year and they were hard and not holding shots very well. I could of lived with that change but wasn't ready for, nor a fan of, the complete reshaping of the greens that make them play like an upside down bowl. I lost count of how many shots I thought were decent enough to end up on the green but discovered the ball had found an area that ran off down to a swale. Left, right, short, long, the run-offs were everywhere. Never again at the Dunes.
