Bear Creek Golf Club
About
Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Nice course with great Par 3's
Great layout with variety of club choices from all tees. Choose wisely though as the fairways are narrow and the rough is tough. Neat tees with some feeling like you are coming out of a chute. So control ball flight left to right and up and down. Love that about the course. Par 3's were my favorite thing about this course. Not too long but very challenging from the back tees. Everyone working here was very friendly and helpful especially the lady in the grill room. Great conversation and incite to history of Club and direction they are trying to go. Will definitely be back again!
Course was very wet
Big rain the night before was responsible for cart path only and wet, unraked and poorly prepared bunkers which ruined the experience for me.
Made it a non-counting round. The course is esthetically lovely.
Nice trac
Always a good challenge, more so when it's cart path only and deep, wet rough. Excellent value.
Slow play/harassed
It could be my imagination but I felt like they were harassing us because we paid on golf now and got the "hot deal." We play bogey golf, but definitely aren't slow. We were asked 3 times to let someone play through. There's no hot dogs/food at the turn/clubhouse. One of the greens keepers with broken English asked us if we were told we could drive on the fairway. We said no, less than 5 minutes later someone (no starter that day because they "were slow") drove up and said "sorry folks, i might've forgot to mention cart paths only. Enjoy." Then it was just continued, it was somewhat friendly harassment, but harassment nonetheless. Every few holes a worker was watching us, just super uncomfortable play.
Good course goof value
Played in the PM & was able to play the course in 3.5 hours. Good layout.
Disappointed
It was our first time playing Bear Creek. Our group was very disappointed. The course had to be great 10-15 years ago but it has fallen into disarray. Crabgrass on most tees, bare spots on all tees, traps were not maintained, greens were aeriated ( there was no mention of that before we booked the round) and debris was laying on much of the course. As you can tell, we will not return.
Great deal and nice course
Great deal for the money and the staff was excellent.
Best Course on HHI
Bear Creek is a hidden gem on HHI. From a golfers perspective the track is a challenging, yet fair layout. The course is in great shape. I've never had a round over 4 hours. For the price, the quality of course/greens, the food, & the wonderful staff, you couldn't choose a better place to play.
If you live here, be sure to checkout the membership options which are second to none.
Great golf experience and value
Interesting Rees Jones layout. In excellent shape and an INCREDIBLE value compared to other courses in Hilton Head. Staff was extremely friendly.
Top shelf track...
All around, this is how vacation golf is supposed to be!
Great practice facility. Challenging layout that is in really, really great shape (except for a couple of tee boxes, and if they were not that bad).
I vacation in HHI every year; I will play this course every year. You should, too.
Pretty Good Course
Enjoyed playing this course. We had a really good pace of play and no one in front of us on an extremely hot day. Greens were pretty good and was able to play for a really good rate.
Would recommend.
Extremely rude staff
To be a course on an Island known for its friendly people, the staff that works in the pro shop and bar need to seriously brush up on how they treat there clientele.
We love Hilton Head and own a home there, never have encountered the lack of service and poor attitude as we did at this course. There are to many wonderful courses to play on the island. The course needs a lot of clean up, and the cart paths are dangerous.
Greens ok
. Greens were aerated but putted fine. Some traps were wet and others fluffy. Some areas needed mowing . Overall the course is in good condition. Weather was deadly hot so course was not crowded and we played at our leisure. We passed the beverage cart sitting on the fourth hole and never saw her again until we were on the 18th hole so they missed some sales. The Rate included breakfast and lunch which were made to order and excellent food and service. Staff was friendly and helpful. Prices in pro shop were as good as off course store so I purchased a hat. We where impressed enough that we are considering playing again but the rate went up 20 dollars so not sure if we will try another HHI course.
Challenging off tees
Unfortunately most HH courses had been aerated this time of season. Found this course that had yet to aerate. Fast greens but in very good condition. Especially previous playing aerated greens that were struggling to recover. Need to be pretty accurate off tees as their are strategically placed fairway traps that could turn par/birdie hole into a bogey.
horrible greens
The staff was great and the tees and fairways were good but the greens were in horrible condition. Not being repaired or aerated just holes, drag marks, lack of grass, dirt patches
Solid Course
Nice layout and good playing conditions make this one of the best bargains on Hilton Head. Greens were firm and fast, course overall in great condition.
Great golf course
I've played this course about 5 times. It's a more demanding course than Dolphin Head which is close by. Greens are quick, but roll true. It's a fine course to play at any level.
