Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Fastest round of the year

It was our first time trying out this course. We zoomed around in about 3 hours (twosome). It was not slow resort golf. The course was nice and the layout was fair. The greens were in nice shape and pretty fast. The course is pretty heavily bunkered, so your accuracy will be challenged. Getting ready to play this course again today ...

Not for singles

Their website won't let a single book a tee time. Nor will they give you one if you call. Rather, they want you to come out and hang around until there's an opening. Forget that. I'm on vacation and don't want to waste time that way and I don't have to with two dozen other courses in the area that are more accommodating.

Great deal

Had an enjoyable round at Bear Creek. Greens and bunkers in very good shape. Pace of play was 3:45 (teed off at 8:30). Spotted rangers several times during the round. Got a fantastic rate thru Golf Now which included a burger and beer after the round. Challenging but fair layout. Will definitely return.

First time

A challenging course with plenty of sand and water hazards. Not too long with generous fairways. In great condition even with the damage done by Matthew. Thru in a lunch with our deal. It was a great day of golf.

Rude staff

I have been coming to Hilton Head for over 30 and have played Bear Creek well over 15 times. The staff was always pleasant and the course usually ok. The greens were a little bit ate up compared to Old South and Hilton Head National. The pro shop told us how wonderful they were to give us free lunch and a draft beer. Really didn't want a 3 day old turkey or ham sandwich and a warm draft beer especially on a nice sunny day. I wanted to BUY lunch, but the lady at the lunch counter insisted all we could have was turkey or ham since we were making the turn. We were told no 4 times. I got it after the first time. There were no hole markers, as far as pictures. Couldn't tell if a hole was a dogleg left or right if we hadn't played it before.

After management changed at the course, I wasn't impressed with any of the staff from the pro shop to the cart boys. There are too many courses who appreciate taking my money. Will never play there again.

Great Bear//Great Price

Could not ask for anything more on a early Sunday morning of golf. Staff excellent thru out . Walked up to Pro shop for time as a single told 8:04 was next. Paid $52.00 for golf, cart and the great deal Lunch and drink. The BEST on H H I other course should follow there lead. Give the people a good deal like that and they will come back time after time. Played in 3 hrs 20 mins..... nice course thru 1 to 18. Looking forward to playing there again real soon...can't wait.

More challenging than I'm used to

I loved the course design. It allowed me to use quite a few of my in-between clubs in my bag. The weather was beautiful & we had a great experience. I would definitely recommend this course to friends & family.

JD at Bear Creek

The course conditions were very good, considering it is late winter. Greens were smooth, in good shape and fast. The sand traps had adequate sand , unlike some other courses we played.. Just the right balance of woods and water to make this challenging for the intermediate golfer , and multiple choices of tees to fit your age and/or handicap. The course personnel were very nice. An extra bonus was the free beer & sandwich included in the price. Definitely will play this course again when we return to HH island.

Interesting course with very friendly staff at a great rate

First time and the weather was not helpful but we enjoyed the course and the staff could not have been more friendly. In addition we unexpectedly received a voucher for a free lunch! Super competitive with other Hilton Head courses

Appealling and fair

Nice layout for both low and high handicaps. Many right and left dogleg holes making you think about your tee shots. The only negative about the course is the condition of their bunkers. I experienced more than a dozen bunkers over the 18 holes and there was little to no sand in them, making it difficult to play a decent sand shot and holding the greens.

Quick round

Great value for the money. We played in 3.5 hours. Greens recently air rated so they were not rolling true. But good layout and interesting course.

Best course I've played in HHI

Played here today and man was the course fabulous. The weather was great around 60 and calm conditions. The clubhouse was great and putting green was great. I played with two guys that where just there for the fun of it but they where very nice. The course itself was great and had a lot of water. Surprisingly I saw 3 gators which was very odd since its December. The par 3s where amazing I loved 18 with water in front my ball landed right next to the water but stayed in.

After your round stay at the clubhouse and watch the players finish on the patio. The service was great and the locals where very nice and courteous. The BLT I had was very good! Next time I am back in the area I will check it out again and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to play a great golf course.
