Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Consistency Breeds Return

Bear Creek continues to be one of our favorites on HHI. This time around we enjoyed the friendly staff, the well-kept greens, the well-groomed fairways, the challenging layout and the new quiet carts. The only thing missing (unless they were hidden somewhere) was water on the course for players.

Great Course

Course was awesome! Hands down one of the better courses, open to the public, in the area. Staff was friendly, prices were reasonable, fairways and greens, what I saw of them, were immaculate.

Enjoyed our time at the course, would play again for the 99$ at 8am and free range balls. Fairway bunkers are played as regular, with grounding club and no rakes. They’re not much of “sand” the regular bunkers are slightly better but not fantastic. Other than that course is in great shape, greens are fantastic and course layout is almost never straight which makes it fun. Only complaint really is the course has like 3 holes that are straight, Which is fine, but the scorecard has no map and the T box signs don’t have a layout of the hole either. Also their course tour on the website doesn’t show the entire hole just is a picture from the T box. So navigating the course is really difficult even with a range finder. Had to skip around a golf YouTuber’s video who did a Drone view of each hole to have a clue of what was up ahead.

Slow play

There is no ranger and even when it’s 90 degrees outside the locals want to play a 4.5 hr+ round.

Needs work

Sand traps have not been racked in days, some debris on course that has been there for days cart paths have pot holes no one to monitor pace. Did not see anyone working on the course the entire time we played. It could be a good course but it needs work.
