About
The Dolphin Head Golf Club, originally designed by Gary Player and Ron Kirby and built in 1974, was the first golf course developed at Hilton Head Plantation.
A trademark of Dolphin Head is the slight elevation of the greens from the approach-shot area and the numerous mounds, which accentuate the greens.
Under the direction of renowned golf course architect Clyde Johnston, Dolphin Head Golf Club's greens were rebuilt in 1993. Most recently, all bunkers were completely rebuilt, and four new fairway bunkers were added in strategic locations. A major tree-thinning program has been under way in the last few years to allow more sunshine to reach tees and greens.
The front nine starts and finishes with par 5s, and No. 18 is also a par 5.

Good coursr
Played alone Sun Am 7:52. Done 2:45 minutes. Spent 45 min after round working on sand game and driving range-nice practice facility. Best golf deal on HHI.
Nice course
Nice conditions, friendly staff and fun course to play. Pace of play very good
Great round
Enjoyed playing this course with my Dad while on vacation. We have been playing different courses in HHI for years and this was our first round at Dolphin Head. We had a lot of rain but the course held up well. Course has a lot of dog legs but is an enjoyable play. We will play it again.
Fun course
Nice,not overly challenging but still a good layouts. Conditions were very good and price less than comparable.
Fun track, good greens. Nice staff
Our experience at Dolphin Head was a good one. The course is interesting as the front nine is fairly tight with tree lined fairways. And the back nine is a little more open. Four very challenging par threes. I played from the Blue tees and they all played close to 200 yards. The greens were fairly fast burmuda and smooth. The staff was very friendly however the clubhouse facilities could use a little updating and a snack bar would be nice. Overall a good experience for me and my wife. Will return.

Professional level course.
Great course. Just everything about it was nice. Back tees it’s challenging enough for a pro to a 10 or better handicapper. Greens rolled nice and true and fast enough but not super slick. Fairways were well manicured. Very good value
Good find
Lots of options in this area, but I really enjoyed my round here. Decent price and the course was in great shape. Greens were perfect and rolled true. I would play again.
A New HHI favourite
Booked through Golf Now and got a reasonable price for mid daytime Staff was great and a good challenging layout but not too scary for high handicappers. Only negative was when we finished it was near dark and clubhouse was closed up. Not a big deal but would’ve been nice to know.
Fine layout
Gary Player design and has all his subtle green complexes.Wonderful back nine with three final holes as good
as it gets, final par five best hole I have played so far in Hilton head area. Would have scored condition better
but tee boxes a bit scruffy and a few hole edges were worn, but greens putted well. Staff allround first class.
I am a14 handicap golfer on vacation from England and play a lot of golf , this course rates good value for the
money and I will return and recommend.
Was pleasantly surprised. An excellent value compared to four other HHI courses we played in the same week.
Very Playable
Course is in great condition! Greens were smooth-not too slow,not too fast. Layout is fair and playable for all skill levels. Pace of play was fine - played in 4 hours on a weekend morning. Staff was hospitable and welcoming. Will definitely play here again.
Mixed review
Staff friendly. Was teamed up with two really nice guys. Fairways good. Greens had been aeriated recently and had not recovered yet. Very bumpy and inconsistent. Nice layout
Great Layout, Outstanding Staff
This my second time playing Dolphin Head and it is now on my list to play every time I come to Hilton Head! The staff is friendly and helpful and pace of play (just under 4 hours) is great but never felt rushed. The layout is fair with just enough challenge to keep you honest but not so penalizing that it takes the fun out.
