San Marcos Golf Resort
About
The golf course at the San Marcos Golf Resort boasts an impressive list of past players that includes presidents and celebrities. The golf course is nestled on a property in downtown Chandler that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Although it has a desert landscape, the course is still lush with a canal that runs through it, a lake, and plush Bermuda grass greens, the former two creating water hazards that come into play on several holes. The San Marcos Golf Resort course is challenging with each hole having at least three bunkers. The two most difficult holes on the golf course are two lengthy par 4s, the fourth and the 10th.

Morning view down the Par-5 5th fairway. A strong drive, especially to the center-right fairway, sets you up to go for the green in two! Photo submitted by vmustang on 04/25/2021

San Marcos is a Chandler jewel
The staff at San Marcos treated us well on our two recent visits. As the oldest course in Arizona, it is not a perfect golf experience due to the age of the facilities. The fairways, greens, and traps are well cared for but the rough and areas around the course perimeter are a bit rough & unkept. I will return but many of the other golf courses in the area are a more appealing choice.
Great Traditional Course
Very traditional style course with trees. Mostly flat with canals running through some fairways! It’s a great course to work on golf skills! The scenery is the old mansions that are around the course! The staff was excellent. Driving range for irons only although did see a gentleman hit some with driver. No ice coolers on the carts. Most of the grass areas in good shape(tee box, fairways, greens). Overall a good course!
Overpriced, slow greens, hard-dirt bunkers
Extremely inconsistent and slow greens. Bunkers that have zero sand and are hard, compact dirt. Yet the course still thinks it's a good idea to charge $80 a round, even higher for a weekend.
Great staff. Everyone was courteous, helpful. Only got to play 16 as darkness was coming. Will play here again.
Small greens
Greens are in great shape roll true and speedy. Sand bunkers have little or no sand in them Overall course in great shape.
Generous Fairways
These fairways were some of the most generous i have seen. After having returned to the area after several years and experiencing this, I would recommed this course to the itermediate player. The day i played course restrooms were limited and upon leaving around 6:30 pm, the clubhouse was all locked up. The course attendemt apologized.
Course conditions
Course is in pretty good shape. However some of the tee boxes need some serious work.
Great day golfing
The course and weather were great! There appeared to be a problem with bunching up ahead of us but the marshall handled it before we got there. Will definitely play again!
Enjoyable Round
The course was in good shape. The fairways are pretty wide and you can generally miss to one side or the other without too much penalty. There are old-growth trees separating most holes, but nothing dense. You're not likely to lose a ball unless you hit it into the neighborhood or one of the few ponds or narrow waterways on the course. The pace of play was a little slow but tolerable. The price was reasonable for this time of year, especially on a Hot Deal. We would play here again.
Decent
My second time playing here. Conditions are decent. We played in 4:40, but that could have been 4 hrs if they would have had a marshal pushing 1 slow group. We saw them on hole 9 and again on 18 where they were more than a hole behind the group in front of them.
I would play here again for about $60.
One problem.. the second green and third tee are too close together. Almost got hit by a ball while waiting to tee off. Be aware.
