Willow Creek Golf Course
About
Situated between Greenville and Spartanburg, Willow Creek Golf Course is a favorite course amongst many area players. The course has a classic layout that starts out gently with a player-friendly front nine but then becomes much more challenging on the back nine. The layout is a seemingly mild 6,890 yards from the back tees but it can feel longer because of all the elevation changes you'll encounter. It's a golf course that will appeal to beginners but advanced players will also enjoy the many risk-reward opportunities that can be found throughout. Water hazards come into play on eight holes and there is a slew of strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The par-5 fifth hole is Willow Creek Golf Course's signature. This 516-yard hole tumbles across rolling hills with a stream that cuts right through the fairway.

Great Visit
I was visiting my son and decided to play here. Very easy getting a t time and the staff were very helpful. Excellent practice area and very enjoyable course. The only problem experienced was that we followed a slow foursome. Entire round was hit and wait. There were a few holes wher you waited in a dead area after your t shot and the group behind us drilled some drives close by. Overall a very good experience.
Good course
Course was in great shape
Beautiful Classic layout
This is a beautiful course in an upscale community. The layout itself is a classic layout with lots of elevation changes and challenging, but not impossible green complexes. The greens are almost completely recovered from spring aeration and putted at a good speed and very true for the most part. THere is a nice variety of holes in terms of distance, uphill/downhill, etc. There are lots of uphill/downhill lies in the fairway that made for some difficult approach shots
Very bumpy greens
Checked out willow creek for the first time thursday. I like tom jackson designs and this one didn't disappoint. problem was they punched greens a month ago and they were still bumpy. lots of putts went off line due to this so it kinda spoiled the round. not sure why its taking so long for the greens to come back but if they are bent grass then its not warm enough to heal. rest of the course was greening up so maybe i will give it a chance in june. not worth rack rate glad i had a coupon.
Nice layout, challenging but fair
Very nice course in a golf home community. The layout is challenging but fair. The greens had just been aerated so I can't comment on them, but the shape and layout of the greens was nice. Some holes are a little bit blind so knowledge of course layout is helpful. Get a yardage book if they have them, we didn't think to look when we checked in. The staff was very friendly - from the young lady in the pro shop to the starter. Well stocked pro shop. I highly recommend this course.
Alric's Rpund
This is my first round at Willow Creek. The staff were cordial welcoming us to SC. The weather of excellent for a Feb. day. The course was crowded but play went well. Our play was slow on a few holes because we were unfamiliar with the course. There was no course layout available and several holes were "blind" and several were "cart path only". It was necessary to pick-up after any double bogey. The day was a pleasure. I plan to visit again in the Summer.
Slow as a snail
Why have a starter if three foursomes are on the same hole at one time? Too many people on the course....took the joy out of it!
NICE COURSE FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS
PLAYED WITH JOE-A REGULAR HERE-NICE GUY. Course in very good condition considering the high amount of rain we have had here recently. Easy to find a ball in the rough. On 16 better to play the approach long-not short. On 17 stay to the right side of the fairway-slopes right to left all the way to the green. 50 degrees-7mph wind & enjoyed it anyway.
Call ahead
So I booked my tee time through golf now and was so happy I got a decent deal but when I arrived at the course, only the back nine was open. That's right, they had closed the front nine to aerate and we're having customers play the back nine twice for an 18 hole round. This aeration is just in time as the greens had missing chunks on the back nine. On a positive note, the staff were all very friendly. Call ahead to make sure the course is actually open. Bad form willow creek, bad form. First chink in the armour when using golf now, you can't tell ahead of time what kind of deal it is.
Great Course
Very nice condition but not too difficult to play. Very enjoyable time.
Enjoyable
Always enjoy playing this golf course. The course is in great shape and well kept.
Course needs work
Usually a great course, but this time greens were horrible. Dead spots, unrepaired ball marks, and evidence of invasive grass? Course gets overplayed. Due for aerification in a week and boy does it need it!
pleasant layout
A overall good day. The clubhouse staff and starter were very friendly and efficient. The course was is good shape. There were many old ball marks on the green but mostly repaired well.
Great coarse
This was not my first time here. We always know the coarse will be in top notch condition that's why we don't hesitate to book online.
Perfect Yardage -- Incrediablity Playable
Love this course. The weather was 85 degrees with low humidity (for upstate South Carolina). This is an immensely playable course. Forgiving fairways and from the white tees, not to long (5900 yds). The greens were experiencing some stress. Coming from a course in the Piedmont of NC with re-sprigged fairways (after the winter kill), it was quite a pleasure to play on great conditions. The senior price was great for a Friday morning. Had 6 birdies and shot 71. Too many bogies!!!
a well-maintained challenge
I always look forward to a round at Willow Creek. The lay out seems to suit my game and the course is always well maintained. The practice facility is spacious with areas not only for long play, but a chipping and sand area as well as the putting green. The greens are bent and the brutal weather we've had has taken its toll along with the way too many players who don't repair their pitch marks.
Great course to play after prime time!
The playability of the course is great! I played it for the second time yesterday (the first being back in 2010) the facilities have flourished and I had a great time! Now, the stuff everybody else puts on these reviews sites, THE UGLY. I am a partially guilty party in this I cannot assign any blame without taking some of the weight myself. My issue was not being ready to tee off on time due to misplacing an item not really needed to golf (my cell phone). However the range master managed to shuffle me and my partner around to get us back on track that was a huge positive. The negative was they place us between foursomes and we were a pair this they did consciously which caused our play to "bottleneck" where we were too fast for the group ahead and the foursome behind us were practically on top of us because the group ahead would not let us play through. Just a bit of better organization and I would give this place five stars! A lot of people complained of slow greens but they were really good on this trip.
Enjoyable time
The weather was hot and although this makes the greens more susceptible to ball marks (plenty on the greens) they putted quite well. Tee off time was noon and we completed the round in 3 hours.
I believe the ditch that crosses #5 could be cleaned better as the ball can bounce into it (hidden from view). The only complaint I have is that the sand in the traps is not consistent. One might be like powdered sugar (this I don't like for obvious reasons), another normal textured, and another a combination. To remedy this I need to not be in them!
Overall, had a good time and will be returning after I work on sand shots.
Best course for the cost
Compared to courses that will cost the same or slightly more, this course is far and beyond better. The greens were a little rough the last time playing there but this is a rarity. Overall the layout of the course is great, challenging enough to make you work for it but easy enough to relax and enjoy your time.
Surely you didn't get to play both nines??? When I arrived at 1250 there was only one side open not to mention some of the greens were a little rough in areas. The course usually does look pristine and I usually do line those greens buy not on 9/8.
