Junior National Golf Club
About
Junior National Golf Club (formerly known as Tres Rios Golf Course at Estrella Mountain Park and Estrella Mountain Golf Course) is rich with dense forestry including eucalyptus, mesquite, and pine trees as well as cottonwoods. The course has a parkland-style layout with rolling fairways lined with trees and undulating greens that are medium-sized and fast. To add more challenge to the golf course, water hazards and bunkers come into play on several holes. The par-4 seventh hole is considered the most difficult driving hole on the course. There are stately trees off the tee and the second shot is to a narrow sloping green. Junior National Golf Club features multiple tee boxes for a variety of different golfing options.

Best kept secret in the valley.
Tough greens, best sand traps, challenging but playable. Great staff. Course looks rough around the edges but Tee to green excellent. Great value for the price. Thanks to management for stepping up and investing in this hidden gem.
Dirt track
Well if you like hitting it off a dirt this course is for you … off of any fairway 3-4 foot is dirt .. and if you like slow play this course is also for you ..
staff changed our tee time to one or two slots later .. “You know how to take a tee
Time .. you just don’t know how to keep the tee time “
Anyway .. I guess juniors golf free there .. so that is redeeming for sure ..
Great day at Junior National
Beautiful weather, great set-up at first tee. Very good access from parking lot to first tee. Nice newer electric carts with name on the cart upon arrival. Unfortunately we were sent off behind a foursome that was hitting 2 balls each, and was very slow off the tee. They finally let us thru on #15. Tees are not marked well, so not always sure where you are going. Nice track, very playable, and enjoyable. We will definitely go back.
Not worth the price
Only decent thing here was the pace of play but that is because we combined with the group in front of us on the 3rd hole. Saw cart girl twice in 18 holes. No hard alcohol and can’t bring your own. If you don’t like beer and want to drink go somewhere else.
Here we go
Played today course conditions good. Greens true seemed to be rolled. I can see a lot of improvement on course. Course still bumpy but gophers seem to be gone
Directions tricky need few mire signs
First time at National Junior
Pros: Tee boxes, greens, and areas around the greens were decent. Learned that kids golf free. GPS in the carts.
Cons: Fairways somewhat green but the grass isn’t very plush or thick. They still played decent. The rough, is very inconsistent and has a lot of areas of dirt and misc brush, etc.
The layout is very confusing. I am glad they had the gps in the carts to give you directions. Free range balls, but it faces straight east into the rising sun, hard to see anything and there’s no yardage markers.
Overall, I felt it was more of a $60 course and not $90, but I understand it’s still young under new management. I hope they can keep working on improving areas of need and make the course live up to its price tag.
Honestly this course is a cow pasture
As I was driving up I thought, it’s too late to cancel, the staff was terrific, friendly and welcoming.
The course was 50% dirt 50% grass. Greens were like concrete. It’s a $25 course not $75 like I paid.
Not ever going back. Driving range was just dirt no markers, but you could see the dirt fly when the ball landed.
Obviously the superintendent is doing what he can with very little money. They said they over seeded. NOT
Night & Day
This course is night and day from a couple of years ago. The layout is great and the course has never been in a better condition. The staff is extremely friendly and you can see the owners have def dumped some money into the course.
Nov 4
The course is in tip top shape. Greens were a little fast but manageable. The fairways and rough are the best condition I’ve seen in a while. The new carts are welcome change. Had a bit of trouble adjusting to the “kill switch” every time you wander into a prohibited area of the golf course. It takes getting used to.
Not worth the green fee
There are much better courses for similar price point in the west valley. My friend hurt his back hitting off the fairway because we believe the grass was so thick and grabby. We experienced several issues trying to figure out where the green was from the tee box. Often we had issues shooting distances from a range finder due to not knowing the layout. We lost so many balls in just not being able to locate them in the dirt areas between the link style fairways. Coldwater would be a significantly better course in the west valley for a similar price. Our 4 some will not be back.
Course conditions
This course has good potential, I know they redone the greens and bunkers but when they redone the greens they should’ve redesigned some of them. Some of them are not very creative just perfect circles. And I’ve been hearing about the new course just northeast of the clubhouse and nothing is happening now that course could be very nice if done right maybe they should get Nicholas junior or Lehman to design since one did Estrella and the other did Verrado plus Tom L lives in Scottsdale.
Could be the 2 best courses around if done right.
Thanks RC.
Great Value!
Great attention to detail and greens were top quality. Unfortunately the drink cart was not in service. The day was very busy and hot. Layout of the course was also confusing with signs missing. Play through was good overall.
It’s ok, but…
The ground was under repair in a bunch of places. For some reason it seems like a sin to fix you divots or fix your marks on the greens. Sand is hard as a rock.
If you clean and place, great place.
