Junior National Golf Club
About
Junior National Golf Club (formerly known as Tres Rios Golf Course at Estrella Mountain Park and Estrella Mountain Golf Course) is rich with dense forestry including eucalyptus, mesquite, and pine trees as well as cottonwoods. The course has a parkland-style layout with rolling fairways lined with trees and undulating greens that are medium-sized and fast. To add more challenge to the golf course, water hazards and bunkers come into play on several holes. The par-4 seventh hole is considered the most difficult driving hole on the course. There are stately trees off the tee and the second shot is to a narrow sloping green. Junior National Golf Club features multiple tee boxes for a variety of different golfing options.

Pretty decent course but needs work
Layout is decent, conditions were decent. However, this course really needs more cart paths and better sinage and hole to hole directions.
I have been playing this course the last 6 years and every time I play it, it reminds me of a struggling muni course,
Slow slow slow
Our tee time was 11 19 am teed off at noon finished round at 6 pm waiting at every hole worse time ever never will play here again
Frost delay
Played this course plenty of times before and never had any issues till now. Showed up 45 mins before our tee time and advised about a frost delay. Didn't tee off till 45 after our original time. Play was so slow that day that we called it after 2 and a half hours later just for 9 holes. Talked to the guy at the pro shop if any kind of reimbursement or discount could be done and told us there's nothing he could do.
Great greens
The course was in very good condition. The greens were lightning fast and true. The pro and the bag boy were very friendly. We had a really good time and the weather even cooperated with the course.
Horrible
First, the pace was every hole was backed up by 2 groups.Never understand why. The greens had 50% actual grass the rest was sprayed green sand which made them like putting on concrete. 50% of the fairway was actually fairway because I think you need grass to have a fairway. This course is getting run into the ground and looking at the pro shop it is running down their inventory. Either this course is going to get sold or closed. It needs a million bucks invested just to make it playable.
Packed
Unfortunately we ran into a frost delay that morning which lasted an hour or so, we didn’t tee off until 1pm, so I grumble with a bit of a caveat. There were lots of foursomes out there so pace would expect to be slow however the prebooked 5-some in front of us was terrible. With obvious beginner players in front and the experienced Dad teaching the daughters was frustrating to say the least. They finished 18 holes a 2 full holes behind, which sounds almost ok, except it was already slow so keeping up should have been easy. No marshals on course, and a warning from the starter about the 5some before we teed off. So why allow the 5 players on a single tee time to begin with. They should have let us go ahead and could have at 18 different tee boxes, but they didn’t know any better so our attempts to sneak past fell on deaf ears. I don’t appreciate golf courses that penalize the public for booking pm tee times to save a few bucks then send the beverage cart and course marshals home early. It’s clear at 99% of courses that if u pay less you get less. Well tell that to the 500 courses that go bankrupt every year.. Ty needed those pm tee times
Good for the price
This was our first round after a long winter. Booked it to get the rust off. Course is good for the price we paid. Greens were excellent.
Great course, pace of play abysmal
As others have said, pace of play is very poor. I got my cart at exactly my reserved time. There we’re three groups queuing at Hole 1. No marshall could be found. I waited for about 30 minutes until I could actually tee off. I am under the impression that reserved tee times are meaningless here. I will give this course another chance in the future, but if I have to wait again for 30 minutes, I’ll avoid any future visits.
Pace of play
I really don’t like being negative, but this was our third round that took close to six hours to play. The first time was when the ladies were there, so we put it down to that. The second time was on a Saturday, so we put it down to the weekend, but this time was a Wednesday, so conclusion is it seems to be consistently slow. It does mess with your concentration waiting to hit every shot. Will try again, as this has been our go to course since all of the improvements, and the staff is great.
Not very nice
Hard to think that a course isn't worth the very low price of this one in Arizona in the prime season, but this one is not. Dry, dusty and hard, including the greens. Bare ground everywhere.
What Tee Box are we Playing??
The markings on the tee boxes was VERY POOR. For about three cans of spray paint and one hour this could be fixed!! This just shows the lack of care for the golfers who are payers!! The price is LOW and that is what you get. Greens are still in good shape, it is too bad the rest of the course is not up to PAR!
Good Value
Got a good rate from Golfnow. Enjoyed the layout and ease of play.
Speed of play
Groups of five seemed very slow. 5 hours for round is to much. Perhaps over booked?
Overall good value..Nice layout and was certainly a challenge from the championship tees. Fairways and greens were in good shape.
Going down hill
Last year it seemed like the course was coming back to life, but now it seems to be going back down hill. Tee boxes aren't being taken care of, sand traps are like hitting out of a concrete pile, mole hills starting to pop up all over again, morning start still had leaves and debris all over the greens which should have been blown off early as there was no wind that day. Course needs TLC, we can see why they are only charging $25 to play. Please don't let this blue collar course go to the wayside.
