About
Cave Creek Golf Course is Phoenix's most popular municipal course, seeing about 100,000 rounds yearly. In 1983, Cave Creek began as a landfill reclamation project. It's a sort of pioneer in environmental design, proving similar spots can find environmentally friendly uses. It's open dawn to dusk, year-round.
Eighteen holes of par-72 golf take golfers over 6,732 yards on the Cave Creek Golf Course, kicking off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 363 yards from the blue tees, before things get long on the second hole, which measures 510 yards from the blue tees. That's just one of four long holes, with the sixth hole measuring 532 yards from the blue tees, the 11th coming in at 521 yards from the blue tees, and the sixth having a distance of 518 yards from the blue tees. The round concludes after a suggested playing time of four hours and 10 minutes on the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 388 yards from the blue tees.
The city of Phoenix has contracted with several hotel chains to offer stay-and-play packages for golfers at the Cave Creek Golf Course and other municipal tracks.

Overpriced
For the price of this course there are many other better options. The driving range is sad, the pro shop and carts are old and the course is packed with players. My party had a 7:36 tee time and they pushed us out early just to get people moving. That lead to a huge log jam of players waiting to tee off and slow pace of play on the course.

muni course
Decent course. A bit wet in places. Greens are ok, not particularly smooth but not a bumpy mess either. Fairways were hit and miss. Some were in great shape and others were only in fair shape. Very playable course. Very windy today and the ball got tossed around a bit. Pace was awesome. Flew through the front 9. Back 9 had slower group slowing everyone down.

Cave Creek Golf Course
This is City of Phoenix owned Golf Course. It is advertised as a Championship Course, but the only thing that is in that ball park is the length of the course.
The course could actually be a great course, however it is poorly maintained and serviced.
The cart paths are spotty (part asphalt, part dirt, and part not there), rutted, and do not always continue down the fairway. The rough is well maintained, however there is a ravine running through the course that is filled with trash from homeless people living in it and has recently been partially burned out.
The fairways and tee boxes were mowed today. The clippings were left on the course and not removed, so you could hit a perfect drive and lose a ball in the fairway under the freshly mowed grass.
Realizing that it is a City owned course and that it is close to over seed time with a low price, it is a challenge.
The pace was slow and we waited at every tee box, sometimes for 2 groups.
