Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links
About
This beautiful facility is located on 270 pristine acres at the North end of the Grand Strand. Blessed with a unique topography and large mature trees, the course meanders down to the inter-coastal waterway with scenic vistas to distract you at every turn.
This 6900 yard Clyde Johnston design is owned and managed by the same group that developed the fabled Heather Glen links and the service you have grown to expect from this organization is evident the moment you drive up to the clubhouse. Give this course a try the next time you vist the Myrtle Beach area. You won't be disappointed!

One of the Better Grand Strand Courses
Well maintained, a little windy and the greens were somewhat slow, but course was in great shape. Cool day and winds come off Intercostal waterway, so you need to adjust. Depending upon your tee box several holes will require you to use a fairway metal or rescue, so pay attention. I've played almost 50 Grand Strand courses and it's one of the best, will play as often as I get a chance.
Bring Your Camera
Beautiful location. Eye pleasing layout. Elevations changes (for Myrtle Beach). This was a course layout along the inland waterway and every bit as beautiful as Caledonia. Can not wait to return in spring.
Last 3 holes some of best in Myrtle Beach...
Interesting course. Target golf for the most part. Fairways about 2/3 green but playable. Unlike Heather Glen where ball didn't sit up where there was no green grass, the fairways here were mostly thatch and green where the ball sat up good on the thatch even when it wasn't sitting on green. Greens had some issues where overseeding didn't come in well, but putted fine. Running about an 8.5 on stimp. I'd rate the greens a 7. Tees were about the same. Traps were about the same. Some raked some not. Sand was pretty consistent.
I'd recommend this course just on the last 3 holes alone . Very cool views. The last 3 holes are tough, but so scenic. The rest of the course is partly straight forward boring and partly interesting holes where local knowledge means lot. Lots of short/mid length par 4's that can be played aggressively, a few where driver a bad play, like #15. Trouble is you don't realize it until you get to your drive. Read the tips in the little yardage book they give you.
Top 5 golf course
The greens had some rough patches and where running slow and the Pro shop had very little merchandise- Having said that the golf course in general is in great shape and the routing around the marshlands is impeccable. They tell me that these are the three toughest finishing holes in Myrtle Beach, I am not sure about that but 16 is definitely one of the most beautiful and difficult par 4 not only in the area but anywhere. As I putted out of 18 , I saw a group about to tee off on 1, and at that point I was jealous. I wanted to go right back out. Over the past five years I have played over forty courses in the area and this is definitely in my top five. I highly recommend it.
A Fair But True Test of Golf
Course was recommended to me by an employee of another course. The dude did not steer me wrong. One of the most picturesque courses down here. tees, fairways and greens all in good shape. Lots of deep bunkers guarding the greens and forced carries over waste areas. The fairways are pretty wide but they get you with your approach shots' You hit a bad shot you'll pay for it here. Course is built by the Intercoastal waterway and there are many holes that are appealing to the eye. Will definitely be back. Top 10 course down here.
Nice Views
Overall course conditions are good. Some thin spots in some fairways & greens. Nice views of the waterway throughout the course. Be your A game to score here.
Staff ready to go home
Never made to feel welcome. Course can be empty and it seems like they don't want your money.
Nice views and challenging layout.
Glen Dornoch
Conditions are good. The course was very wet from all the rain this week, though, but still very playable.
This course is a unique and true test with many very challenging holes. It really is a shot placement course, but there are also a few "easier" and shorter holes that make up for the more challenging ones.
The course is absolutely beautiful. One of the more beautiful ones in the area. I can't wait to get back and play this course again. I think the 2nd time around will be better after having figured out the exact layout the 1st time.
Really is a must-play in the area.
one of the best!!!!
This course is not for high handicappers. Every tee shot requires exact placement if not just enjoy the beauty of the course as it eats you up. This course is in my top 3 with true blue/Caledonia but at $61 a steal. Played in 3 hours today. Final 3 holes are as challenging a finish as anywhere I have played. This is a must play. A true but fair test. Greens are receptive /soft so aim at the pins ...but please fix your ball marks...this course deserves to be cared for....a timeless masterpiece
Great Great Course
This course is sea level so shots do not carry as far so started told us to club up one or two depending on the wind.
Start was funny, friendly and had great control on getting everyone out and on time. Great speech to help everyone get started with helpful tips.
Course was in fantastic condition. Greats were running slow because of all the rain for the week leading up to when we played and fairways were a little long but again that was do to very we conditions and not being able to get out and cut.
The day we played the fairways were 90 degree rule and were still wet in some places but the course played very well. The course is a great layout and all about shot placement over distance. Some of the holes can be a little tough so play the correct tees for your handicap.
All the Glens courses are amazing and this course we really, really enjoyed.
Great course to play. Tough layout.
This course is an excellent layout and quality shot making will be rewarded. I can't say enough about this course. I look forward to playing it again and again.
Beautiful course, Great staff
Having played many of the courses along the grand strand, I can easily say that this is my favorite. Despite it's obvious difficulty, being set right on the intracoastal, Glen Dornoch not only challenges your game, but does so through its beautiful layout. The final three holes are among the most difficult in the area, each having their own distinct character. In a lot of ways, this course is a great example of target golf, as you have to be extremely precise and put the ball in exactly the right place in order to have a real chance to execute the next shot in the manner that you would like. In addition to the course which was meticulously maintained, the clubhouse staff has extremely kind and helpful, telling me exactly what I was getting myself into by tackling this South Carolina jewel of a golf club. This will become a regular stop on future golf trips and is a must play for anyone up for a challenge.
One you want forget! in a good way
This must be one of the most challenging courses i have ever played , and one of the most beautiful also. Myrtle Beach has a lot of courses that people talk about as being a must play. This course needs to be on that list. It is a well laid out design and the best views on the beach. I will be back !
Beatiful golf course on the intercostal waterway.
I recently played this course for the first time, even though I have been visiting Myrtle Beach my entire life. The course layout is tough but fair and the views that the course offers are breath taking. I could imagine the course could play very tough if the wind is blowing, fortunate for me the wind was not bad on the day that I played. The greens had been aerated a week prior to me playing, but were in fair shape. I can't wait to get back out on this course and play again.
what a beautiful view and golf course
i am a local area golf course pro and was really interested in getting the chance to tackle "the beast of little river" Glen Dornoch. I have lived in the area for over 15 years and this was the third time i had played the golf course since it had opened in 1997. Because of the group i was playing with we decided to play from the up blue tees. even still from the blue tees it was a little bit of a challenge. This course has so much character in the last three holes it is unbelievable. After this recent time i would have to say this course is the toughest course from the back tees in Myrtle beach. if you have not been here i highly recommend this course. And from the women's tees it looks quite fair i might add. All and all from top to bottom a fine establishment.
Most scenic course I've ever seen!!
Right on the waterway, this course is GORGEOUS!! A bit tough but the atmosphere makes it totally worth it! Other than hole 16, the course is "woman-friendly" and I will be coming back each year! Fun, beautiful, and challenging!
Forced carries and waterway views
Great views of the intracoastal waterway from the clubhouse and both finishing holes which share a double green. Wind can be a big part of playing this course as it was the day we played, as it was blowing 15 to 20 mph. The back nine is tougher with more forced carries than the front. 16,17 and 18 make for as tough a finish as one could wish for. 16 plays toward the waterway, which for us meant playing into those 20 mph winds and an even longer par 4. 17 is a par 3 also playing towards the waterway, and is all carry over marsh to a long and narrow green, that is flanked by a bunker and30 ft tall mound on the right side and the salt marsh on the left and backside. 18 parallels the waterway, with two fairway choices. The first fairway choice to the right is more open and leaves you with the forced carry on your second shot. The second fairway closer to the waterway is tighter and requires a longer drive to clear the marsh, but will leave you a shorter approach shot. A great finishing hole, go right or gamble and go left, either way it is a beautiful scene.
One of the best in Myrtle Beach if looking for a test play the back tees.
The course was in great shape place of play was quick. We booked online but at the pro shop they gave use a better price paid $80 for adult then the my two 16 year old sons one was free the other cart fee. I would recommend this course every time you visit MB.The last three holes are some of the best you will play.
Under repair but a nice track.
The greens had been aerated and the cart pathes were being repaired. The staff told us that they tried to get GolfNow to notify me of these conditions the day before we played, but GolfNow did not respond. The result was we were charged a greatly reduced rate ( the published rate was $68, we paid $27 ). The course is routed through some wetland area with forced carries and several holes along the intercostal.
