Ken McDonald Golf Course
About
Located in the metropolitan Phoenix area, the affordably priced Ken McDonald Golf Course is a championship-length course that is suitable for any level of golfer. The flat terrain of the course makes for an enjoyable stroll, while the water hazards that come into play on eight holes provide plenty of challenge. The water hazards are provided by the Western Canal, which flows directly through the golf course. The par-5 11th hole is the longest on the course at 570 yards; it is very difficult to reach in two shots. In addition to the course, Ken McDonald Golf Course offers several other amenities including a restaurant, club fitting and repairs, and professional golf instruction.

Good track
This is a good golf course. Plays quickly, interesting layout. Greens aren’t the most challenging, but it also helps to know where to put the golf ball on the holes with undulation. They hold well and roll well. Fairways are in good shape and the winter rough is fine. Sand is in good condition for the most part, as are the tee boxes. Very solid municipal golf course.
One thing that needs to change is the set up of the 9’s. It needs to either go back to the old layout of the 1st hole being north of the driving range (currently 17) or make that the 10th hole and make the current 10th into the 12th hole. The course is great to walk except for the fact that you have to walk back and forth across the canal 3 times when it should be once. It makes no sense. If it is for the snack shack revenue, build something to the north of the range. It’s silly to make everyone walk back and forth in case they want to stop in the restaurant. Since I walk and am rushed to go across the canal, I have never stopped in the restaurant.
Ideal Course For Out-of-Towners First Course in Phoenix
For those of us Snowbirds or out-of-towners coming into Phoenix, this course is ideal as the first course to play after coming off of a long winter break from golf as it's a fairly flat and straightforward layout without huge trouble. The staff was very friendly and helpful and I recommend their BLT in the restaurant. Conditions were good to excellent and the greens were medium speed and pretty flat. Pace of play was good on the front 9 but became a logjam at the turn, and with sunset in less than 2 hours, we opted to play the front 9 over again and glad we did as the original group only made it to 17 before dark. and we got 11 holes in on the front second time around. Not sure it was about the par-3s but I really enjoyed them - maybe because I shot even par on them! I will play here again.
Good Value
I took my son out for a round. The course is in good shape and the price you can't beat.
Great shape.
Pro shop helpful and friendly. Amazing fairway condition. Don’t know how they do it.
Nice public course
We are in Phoenix for a winter getaway. Played this course based on previous reviews. WE we’re not disappointed.
It is a really nice public course and good value for the money.
Sunday Round
Booked KM for some friends that didn’t want to break the bank for a weekend round We had a great round on great conditions for a muni and played in 4 hours Will be back soon
City Course
Course was in great shape except for the bunkers. Not enough sand in 1/2 of the bunkers. Fairways great shape, greens good, tee boxes lacking. Good bang for your buck!
Better than I expected
Much better greens, fairways and tee boxes than many more expensive courses. Greens were fast but too hard to get much bite
