Shalimar Golf Club is a nine-hole golf course in Tempe. The course is best for beginners but it has enough challenges in store to make it a great option for more advanced players who want a quick round. The layout is comprised of three par 3s and six par 4s. It weaves through a smattering of mature trees and across gently rolling hills. The small greens can be quite tricky, especially since there are strategically placed bunkers lurking along some. Water hazards come into play on a few holes, including the 155-yard fifth, which is one of the golf course's toughest. You'll have to pull off a carry over the area's biggest lake to a heavily bunkered, narrow green. Shalimar Golf Club's ninth hole is the most well known though, mainly for the island green. In addition to the water, there are also four bunkers surrounding the green.

Course Condition Subpar, Should Improve Soon
I was just looking to tune up my game with an early morning 9 holes. It was fine for that. But a recent water source problem really hit the course hard in this very hot weather (over 110 each day). Water is back on, but the greens in particular need the water, and cooler weather, I think. But for tuning up your game, it is OK, since the idea is to be challenged by variable lies, right? Anyway, I saw plenty of evidence of the grounds crew hard at work...so expect improvement.
Great course for a quick short game nine anytime.
I went to treat myself for my birthday with a nine with my son. The staff were friendly and the course itself was decent, even though they just punched the greens and was slow from the sand. I always like coming here, even if it's not my regular.
Also, left my 60°on nine and went to go again a few days later and luckily they still had it. Called the pro shop, gave them a description, went back to the pro shop, and got it back, which is good because I just put on Garmin tags the week before.
Great staff, decent layout, and when not punched it's pretty darn good play.

Definitely not worth 70 dollars for 2
Can’t even call the greens “greens”, they’re literally sand. Conditions are horrible, don’t get me wrong its a great beginner course. But you will quickly outgrow it.

Just bad overall and over prices
Got charged $40 to go to a course where there’s no grass on the greens. Tees are terrible and then the Marshall was on us about timing. I’m all for following course rules but the Marshall continued to repeat it over and over and told us a party of three to hurry up when most of the time we were waiting for the group infront of us which was 4 or more people. When we asked if we could let people pass the Marshall said no. Really felt like the pressure was out on us instead of evenly distributed. And the course is terrible. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Poor and Dry Conditions
Unfortunately this course has had some trouble with its watering system so the conditions rough due to dryness. If you’re looking to play a quick 9 in the morning it’s not a bad option but wouldn’t travel too far to play here.

The course was dry

Overcharge
They market a $22 charge but charged my group $36 once we got there. When we talked to the manager they said that it was the golf now price and website price was not the actual price of the course. Do not waste you time here, they are cheap stakes and won’t live up to their websites false advertising.

1st round after 23 years
It was great to hit the Shalimar links after 23 years. Played the course several years ago. The layout is great for beginner golfers and those who want to sharpen their short game. Enjoyed the round but disappointed in the condition of the fairways, greens and traps. No rakes by the sand traps and the wooden bridges could have used some upkeep. The 19th hole was enjoyable, but no specials and the food seemed a bit pricey.

Not really worth the money
Half the green is dirt. Not the best kept course. Would not say it’s worth the cost. If it was cheaper, then sure, it does it’s job.

It makes you play
Very playable course, but you do have to hit your shots to get results. It gives you a little bit of everything. With summer in full effect, this is a 9 hole course you can get some work in on.

Greens in bad condition, Fairway dried out
They're over seeding the greens now so most of the greens are in bad condition. A lot of the fairways pretty dry too they need to water more.

First time playing in about 20 years. Used to be a nice little 9 hole course that was in good shape. Now it plays like someone’s large yard mowed down in spots so they could call it a golf course. Really disappointed because I have really fond memories of playing this course in the past.

Old Course
If you're looking for grass and trees and nature this is not your place to golf. But if you're looking for a value for your money this is exactly where you should go. Especially for the beer truck that keeps on coming around!

Fun Fact : Jon Rahm has played here
Heard a story the other day that while Rahm was at ASU he played at Shalimar with his buddies on occasion. Shooting 31 while messing around with the guys. That’s what Shally is about. If you’re going to complain about the traps or conditions ask yourself if any of that actuality even mattered or if your game needs improvement.

Course in decent shape but Sand traps need raking and a little more care. Good value fun staff in pro shop and bar very nice.
