Shalimar Golf Club is a nine-hole golf course in Tempe. The course is best for beginners but it has enough challenges in store to make it a great option for more advanced players who want a quick round. The layout is comprised of three par 3s and six par 4s. It weaves through a smattering of mature trees and across gently rolling hills. The small greens can be quite tricky, especially since there are strategically placed bunkers lurking along some. Water hazards come into play on a few holes, including the 155-yard fifth, which is one of the golf course's toughest. You'll have to pull off a carry over the area's biggest lake to a heavily bunkered, narrow green. Shalimar Golf Club's ninth hole is the most well known though, mainly for the island green. In addition to the water, there are also four bunkers surrounding the green.

Needs better course management
We never finished 9 holes due to very crowded and slow play. The course needs to regulate play better. People playing 18 are bunched in anywhere disrupting the planned tee times. Walk ons are allowed with little concern for scheduled tee times.
I'll never play here again!
Great environment!
This is a 9 hole par 3 course. The greens for the most part were in good shape but small. The fairways were also in good shape..On the negative side the tee boxes were beat up, the rough had very little grass and cart paths were in very poor shape. I liked how they had a green for putting and chipping and supplied range balls to use on both. When you are teeing off on a few holes that surround the driving range I would use something other than a white ball. If you hit a ball near the range you'll have a difficult time finding your ball. The staff was very friendly and helpful. But overall I enjoyed playing there and would return.

No marshal, no manners
We have played this course several times and unfortunately this last experience ended badly. A threesome and a foursome decided to combine and played behind our threesome. The young men in the group could easily drive the greens on most of the holes so it was disconcerting to have them teeing off behind us. On the ninth hole, our group was on the green and a drive came zooming past, barely missing a player. The individual did yell four, but when you are getting ready to putt you usually aren't looking for a drive to whiz by your head. When the incident was reported to the pro shop, we were informed the group behind us was actually some employees which doesn't speak well for Shalimar.

Interesting layout, mediocre conditions
More interesting variety of holes than many executive courses. Unfortunately, course conditions are disappointing. Sparse, beaten-down grass in the fairways, little to no grass off the fairways. Greens were very slow, and rough. Pace of play was a bit on the slow side, but not terrible. (1:25, but it’s a short course with few hazards, so no time needs to be wasted looking for balls.)

Shalimar is no Shangri-La
Played course yesterday, good price and location worked for us. Course is quite dangerous due to the layout, we had at least 6 balls drop very close to us while playing the first hole, these all came from the adjacent driving range which is way too close to several holes. Hole 2 has nowhere safe to "hide" while awaiting those on the hole to finish, stray tee shots will hit you! Probably the most i have ever heard "Fore" on a course before. If you want a cheap round, go ahead, but bring a hard hat....
