Shalimar Golf Club
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2025.
Shalimar Golf Club is a nine-hole golf course in Tempe. The course is best for beginners but it has enough challenges in store to make it a great option for more advanced players who want a quick round. The layout is comprised of three par 3s and six par 4s. It weaves through a smattering of mature trees and across gently rolling hills. The small greens can be quite tricky, especially since there are strategically placed bunkers lurking along some. Water hazards come into play on a few holes, including the 155-yard fifth, which is one of the golf course's toughest. You'll have to pull off a carry over the area's biggest lake to a heavily bunkered, narrow green. Shalimar Golf Club's ninth hole is the most well known though, mainly for the island green. In addition to the water, there are also four bunkers surrounding the green.

Love this place
I love Shalinar. It’s a great short course...perfect for fitting in a quick nine.
Golf course.
We arrived 10 minutes early for our 1:00pm booking and we were told we were early??? Had a bite to eat, very friendly and good service in the restaurant. Didn’t get on to golf until almost 1:30pm. Overbooked. Pace was very slow. Waited on just about every hole to tee off. Looks run down, needs repairs, but that was reflected in the fee. Only paid $36.00 for 9 holes and a cart. Wasn’t overly impressed. Will not return.
Great place to play
Shalimar is one of my favorite places to play in AZ. Fast, friendly staff, great course conditions and very affordable.
First time out this year, only wanted to play 9 always a good time at this course.
Nice level course
Greens in good condition. Course ideal for short hitters.
this is how golf is supposed to be enjoyed....
This is a golf course that you rush to not rush to play and leave .. plenty of locals... Some play excellent some not not so but every one there is there to have ... the pace is mixed but there is plenty going on to keep you busy till your next shot ...
Nice course for the money
Played nine holes with my wife who is a beginner golfer. We enjoyed the day. Course in decent condition and great value on GolfNow for a bit over $20 for both of us to walk with a pull cart.
Rustic
Fun for the average player. Good course to practice short game
Great time!!
Cool course and really fun!!..beautiful veiws. Well maintained and really friendly staff. Can’t wait to play again!!
A great neighborhood course
I had an excellent brisket burrito at the restaurant. Then played the back nine next to a group o kick-golfers. It was a blast.
Shailmar Never Disappoints
Went to another course last Fall, they were closed and not ready for us!! Called around and Shalimar was more than willing to accommodate us on short notice. They are so friendly. It's 9 holes of challenging golf, always well maintained, and a great community neighbor -- 1st Tee, Junior Golf, you name it. Great food and drink prices. This is a jewel in the middle of Tempe, and their replay rates/policies are great.
Good quick nine
Nice open fairways with a few challenges. Pleasant restaurant and watering hole. Incentive priced replays.
Great little course, with unbeatable green fees
Great course for a quick 9. Not a hard layout, but challenging enough to help an average player keep their edge. Friendly, accommodating Staff, and pleasant little Bar for a nice "cold one", or a great Sandwich after your round.
The course is in decent shape. It gives a variety of challenges - water, sand. The course is flat and is easy to walk. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Country Club?
This has to be the loosest use of the term Country Club I’ve ever seen. Every other Country Club in the world should file a formal complaint.
This “18” hole course is just 9 holes that you have the privilege of playing twice. Nevermind that after finishing the “front” 9 there might be 4 groups stacked at #1 waiting to tee off.
Tee boxes: C+
Fairways: C
Greens: B+ (Tiny greens mean they are easy to keep up, well played)
Views: Sad houses
Overall this course is a relic of the mid-80’s. A course that was plopped in the middle of a sad neighborhood. This course is worth $50 for “18” if the starter (kidding, there was no starter) hands you $60 at the beginning of your round. Don’t be fooled by the name of this course.
Great for the buck
With so many courses in the Phoenix area, fbis course stands out because of the awesome layout and smoking hot prices. Great. For beggining golfers who enjoy a challenge as well as a savvy enthusist who is touching up the game.
