Shalimar Golf Club
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2025.
Shalimar Golf Club is a nine-hole golf course in Tempe. The course is best for beginners but it has enough challenges in store to make it a great option for more advanced players who want a quick round. The layout is comprised of three par 3s and six par 4s. It weaves through a smattering of mature trees and across gently rolling hills. The small greens can be quite tricky, especially since there are strategically placed bunkers lurking along some. Water hazards come into play on a few holes, including the 155-yard fifth, which is one of the golf course's toughest. You'll have to pull off a carry over the area's biggest lake to a heavily bunkered, narrow green. Shalimar Golf Club's ninth hole is the most well known though, mainly for the island green. In addition to the water, there are also four bunkers surrounding the green.

First Time
Course was in average condition. Tees were mixed, some good, so not so good, none terrible or excellent. Fairways were also mixed same as tees. Greens were a little dry, but quite playable. Putted a little slow, but true. With a little more maintenance the course could be a hidden gem.
Worst Golf Course Ever?
I have played all over the valley, but since my wife and I like to play short courses we tried Shalimar.
Awful. Random tee boxes all over the place, random flags in the middle of the fairway, terrible conditions, just awful. Doesnt really resemble golf honestly.
I cannot believe anyone who would play here once would play here again.
This is the review I have ever left for any course. You were warned. Go to encanto, palo verde, coronado etc.
Friendly ataff
Friendly staff ,par 33 is quick !,but owners need to spend some money and fix inferstuctuers and make some improvements .
Ok course
There was a 4 person group that weren't so good that didn't even offer me to play through. Also the greens were in bad shape. But other than those disappointments the course was good.
Old school
Rough fairway conditions, greens were OK. Old and short layout good for beginners or seniors who want to walk
Nice 9 hole course for great value!
Being from Alberta, Canada, we don't get to commence golfing until later in the Spring so it's nice to start out the season on a course like the Shalimar....the staff were very friendly, we were able to go out as a twosome & not worry about being put with 2 other golfers that we may slow down their game...the pace was great...nobody pushing us from behind, making us feel rushed...very relaxing & enjoyable! Great price as well!
Play a round or two
Booked for nine holes, but liked the replay rate - and course - so much we played twice. Fairways are generally wide with a few trees and water thrown in for a challenge. Very friendly and helpful staff. Looked like a great menu, but we had dinner plans and had to boogie. A nice place to spend a few hours.
The kids are here!!!
Son and daughter in law in town and needed a good course not to hard to play and this is the place I bring family and friends to.
Close to the house and great people running the show.
Fun Course
A fun, short, straight forward course. Greens were very small but in good shape. Played on a Monday in the middle of the day and the course was packed with old, slow push carters. But I didn't mind it because the weather was great.
Foot Golf no bueno
I knew they played foot golf there, but foot golf groups were integrated into golf play, and it was a disaster. Aside from being over booked, the foot golf layout does not compliment the golf layout. Left after two rounds mostly waiting. A refund was issued and staff was very nice in handling the situation, but nevertheless no golf was played, and that was disappointing.
Upkeep
Greens were in terrible condition.
Fun, but full!
Had a great afternoon of golfing, but the course was packed. Not only were there golfers, but they also offer foot golf as well. It was quite confusing with people kicking soccer balls while you are trying to tee off.
Great little 9 hole course
Great staff and some fun holes.
Good for the Price
It isn't a beautiful course, but play is challenging, especially the greens that are built up and you can easily roll off them. Easy walking and for the money, you get what you pay.
Nice
Very nice old course tucked away and fun to play.
FUN
I'll play again but walk.Had fun
Good, cheap executive course
Shalimar does what it does well: good, cheap golf. The course is average, a short executive 9 hole, but rates are normally low and serves as a good practice course. Hole layout is fine, nice water hazard at the 5th to break up the round. Overall, good value course.
