About
The Sierra/Comstock Course is one of three 18-hole combinations provided by the three individual nines at Empire Ranch Golf Course. Nestled in the scenic Carson Valley, Empire Ranch features 27 holes of golf that overlook the Carson River. Although the golf courses have a seemingly secluded location rolling along dramatic bluffs, they are actually only minutes from downtown Carson City. Sierra/Comstock features smooth, fast greens and tight fairways, but the layout is forgiving enough for players of all skill levels to enjoy. Empire Ranch, in addition to the three courses, offers a full practice complex with a 300-yard driving range and a teaching facility that offers personalized instruction for all skill levels.

The maintenance to this course is endless,they do a great job keeping us to Play golf,you need to hit straight or lots of trouble,so fun,need to play a few times to bring out your best score
Empire is Worth Playing Again!
Empire has recovered dramatically since the last time I play there. It has suffered flood & drought damage in the past, but it is now in much better condition. A couple of fairways are a bit thin, but improving. They are out there watering mid day to keep the grass cool during this hot spell & it seems to be working! There were few people in the course when we played so pace was fast!

Too Many Mosquitoes
Not the fault of the property owners, but the mosquitoes were plentiful and looking for customers. To be expected given the location near the river and water on the course. However, be sure to bring bug repellent to the course!!!

Mosquito were terrible! Bring bug spray. Fairways were hard to make out from the tee box. I would play again

Greens are sweet, but…
Right price. Right place. The course needs attention. Fairways have a lot of dead pan and weeds. But the greens are sweet and in great shape. throughout the course the pathways have lots of buckled and cracked concrete. Overall, the courses is showing its age and could use some yardwork, maybe the owner could take better care of it and should revitalize it.
Oh, bring bug spray.

Nice course
The course was a nice course to play. Very nice staff
Played a non finished course
There was a tournament and it allowed us too book. The gentleman who checked us in was not pleased that we were there. Repeatedly kept telling us we shouldn’t have been able to book, but we were there .

Fun Course for a Quick Round
The greens were in good condition and subtly, and some not so subtly, difficult. The fairways were ok. The rough was pretty patchy, but understandable as it's just starting spring here.
Enjoyed it. Staff and other players were very nice. Definitely earned a replay.

An awesome weather day with a good pace of play., Course has taken a beating in the past but now shows great signs of improvement.
Will be much better in late spring/summer!
Hazards drained for pond maint. Fairways still needing work, greens are good/firm. Should get better when vegetation starts growing again.

Fairways were poor, Greens very slow and bushy
Hard to figure out where many of the fairways were located from the tee boxes; and some were in pretty poor shape. Lots of wet, sloppy lies... Grees were quite slow, and needed cutting/rolling. All the toilets were locked at the club house... With few golfers there on a Friday, the pace of play was excellent.

Needs some grooming
Consistently lost balls in fairway and roughs. Grass needs to be trimmed on both. Balls just disappear.

Worst Rough I've Ever Played In
Overall, the course has a lot of potential, but the poor state of the grounds cannot be overlooked. The rough was more weeds than grass, and what grass there was was ankle high as if it had not been mowed in months. My friend and I each lost at least 6 balls in play due to the rough being so high they disappeared as soon as we took our eyes off the spot they landed. Greens were inconsistent in terms of speed but overall not too bad. Fairway was standard. Ultimately this experience was not worth the money and I’ll be playing elsewhere next time.

Not What it Once Was
This course is in sad condition. Weeds in most the fairways, some fairways of weeds (the entire fairway is weeds on hole 16), standing water in the bunkers, slow bumpy greens, and so many misquotes. This was a favorite course many years ago, but the floods have done it in and ownership apparently does not want to invest what is needed to get it right. Bottom line, you're better off playing somewhere else.
