Sunridge Golf Club
About
Located justhalf-hour drive from both Lake Tahoe and Reno, Sunridge Golf Club features monster holes and mammoth lakes. The 669-yards par 5 11th - the longest hole in the scenic High Sierras region and then some - draws your attention as soon as you look at the scorecard. But the 26 acres of water on the golf course will probably provide more challenge and thrills.
There's also a hole with a 300-foot drop from the tee to the fairway (No. 14), a tiny par 3 19th bet-decider hole and a ton of driveable par 4s that almost beg for you to go for it. As a bonus, Sunridge Golf Club's green fees wow many vacationers used to Tahoe pricing.

like an amusement park ride
the front nine of this course is normal enough, and you can score on it - but oh the back nine... after the first 4 holes of the back, which all have water hazards and serious out of bounds, you are then taken on an adventure, climbing to the top of a hill where the tee box looks to the south, while the narrow landing area far below runs east west. My ball hit the fairway, some 100 feet below, but when I rappelled down the ball was nowhere to be found. God I hate that!!!
A further warning - many of the tee boxes here are not oriented towards the fairways making it hard to line up your drive.
Overall the course is in fair shape, but, once again, those back nine holes can use an overhaul (poor drainage I believe to be responsible for the channels of non existent grass on some of the fairways).
The staff here however are very cordial, and with a bit of love this course could be a fun diversion, just don't take your day here too seriously.
course in sad shape greens all sanded and plugged over watering in fairways tee boxes etc etc
even though the price was cheap because of the greens would not have played if knew greens were plugged and sanded
I will be back for more.
I played 10/7/13 during over seeding so I could only play the back nine twice. I will have to come back to see the front nine.
Lots of water!
Course is a challenge for hackers! Takes lots of balls as more than half of fairways have water in play! Rough is really rough. Out of bounds non recoverable! But, fun!
Very challenging. Lots of fun.
Lots of water. Easy enough to avoid most water.
The elevation changes make this an exciting course. One hole has a two hundred foot drop. The views are fantastic.
The greens are a bit bumpy and eratic speeds. Better greens would make this course perfect.
A definite must try.
Good course for the sale price, probably not worth standard rates though
I really enjoyed this course. It was challenging, had some great views, and was kept in pretty good condition. It also appears to be underplayed, so its in pretty good shape. There are lots of hazards, mainly water, and it is a fairly tough course, but not over the top difficult, and overall is a very fun course to play with lots of risk-reward type holes, and most of the course plays long.
I live in Reno, and its about a 50 minute drive out there. Because of this, I probably wouldn't pay more than $35 to play this course. I have seen deals for tee times under $20, which is a steal, and also prices around $50, which I would definitely not pay. It is not in nice enough condition to warrant a price tag that high, when there are courses in better condition for less money.
Challenging and different
Fun golf course. on back side cart path climbs upwards and players get to tee off with greens way below them. Great views too!
Course is in better condition than previous years.
This was a challenge
I'm not a great golfer. We played this course earlier in the year and it was cart path only most of the course. I hated it for that reason but thought we would try it again. This course is pretty but extremely difficult for me. It's hilly, very hilly in places. There is water and desert to contend with as well as undulating fairways and three level greens. For a good golfer, this would be a great course.
No beverage or water.
I showed up early and asked if I could go off early. They charged me $15.00 cart fee. They had vending machines with water and Gatorade on 2 holes. They were broke.
I won't go back to this unpleasant golf course.
Great value
My boyfriend and I got a great deal on GolfNow for our tee time. I was a bit worried about the course conditions based on other reviews. The course could use some TLC but overall completely acceptable. Get ready for some awesome holes at 14. Keep your ritzy expectations at home and go out and enjoy this fun, cheap course.
played this course about 15 times the last year or so. defintely the best shape so far. still needs work though.
Still needs some work ,but best conditions in a couple years.
Challenging, mountainous, great views
Sadly, this course could be a gem, but has been poorly maintained and shows it. Bunkers haven't been touched in years and "sand" is concrete hard with erosion lines. Fairways are bad in patches throughout, and some fairways were roped off, requiring long hikes to the ball. Golf carts are even showing their age. Perhaps worst of all, no water is available on course except for at vending machines! Still, we had a good time and the view were amazing.
Fun course which can be played from a number of tees.
Fun course which can be played from a number of tees. The staff was friendly and accomodating. Had a great time at a very reasonable price. Truly a hidden gem.
Mountainside holes you will never forget.
We played on very windy day which added to difficulty. The first 13 holes offer a variety of challenges with long open par 5's and mountainside holes that require you read the course hole recommendation handbook provided. Holes 14-18 are on a steep mountainside and were fun to play once but would not enjoy repeat play. The uniqueness wears off quickly due to the difficulty.
Course had some problem with the greens. Poana grass is hurting the greens.
The course needs some attention. I played this course a year ago and it needs work to bring it up to the condition a year ago.
play only for a rate below 25 bucks
course has been on the decline for the last 6 years, fairways are poor, greens are fair, would not pay full rate price, too many other good courses in the carson valley.
challenging, scenic
Greens were smooth and a great speed, some patchyness on tees and fairways. Bunkers and surrounds could use care.
Lots of fun, beautiful vistas of carson valley and mountains.
Some fun holes
some of the fairways need attention but Its early in the season. Overall fun course to play...
if you like playing on dirt in the fairways you should play there
