The Long Bay Club boasts a Jack Nicklaus Signature design that is consistently ranked as one of the top golf courses in South Carolina, a major accomplishment when you're competing with golf destinations such as Hilton Head and Kiawah Island. The landscape showcases the beauty of the Lowcountry with forests of pines, dogwoods, and maple trees divided by clear blue streams. The golf course design closely mimics the natural contours of the terrain but there are also countless large, man-made mounds that were seamlessly sculpted into the surroundings. It is considered one of the toughest golf courses on the Grand Strand. Golfers will face numerous bunkers that are seemingly bottomless as well as vast waste areas. The signature hole is the par-4 10th, which features a u-shaped waste area that completely surrounds the fairway and then crosses in front of the elevated, contoured green.

Played this course many years ago. Forgot how good the layout was. Will definitely play again when visiting Myrtle Beach.

Time is taking its toll

I’ve played this course numerous times and love the layout, but haven’t played it in a number of years. Unfortunately, this time, it was disappointing on a number of levels.. Starter said the greens has been sanded but ran true. And, the practice green wasn’t bad, but the actual greens were running about a 5 and showed signs of severe damage and did not run true at all. I honestly wondered if they had been lost. Starter also said they would be monitoring pace, yet we had a 5 hour round. Cart paths, railroad ties, are all in need of replacement. Waste areas are hard, not maintained and just not what they were. The positive was that the bunkers were raked and had good sand in them, but, unfortunately, that’s about my only positive take away. I don’t know if the issues are still related to COViD, or if there has been a change or ownership or simply poor management. I have always enjoyed this course and don’t like giving this course a poor review, but, the conditions don’t warrant anything else.

Different Than Many

I found the course to be different than many of the other courses in the area. It is setup to allow more drivers and had many more bunkers in play which I liked. The course was recently aerated and approach shots landed very soft as a result. It also rained a ton the night before which possibly took away slightly from the experience. I would like to play it again in better conditions. It felt pricey considering it was aerated.

Very good experience

I enjoy playing upscale courses that challenge me but not discourage me. This fits well. Staff was great, not a lot of folks playing. Conditions were quite good for November. Layout was challenging. Much better than a more 'recognized' course I played the day before in Pawleys Island.

Nice course, greens a bit too challenging for the average golfer

A nice course with a beautiful layout, nice large fairways on most holes, challenging design, tee boxes and fairways in great shape, and is the 2nd time I’ve played here. There is a lot of competition in Myrtle Beach and this course maybe lacks in two areas: not as scenic as some and greens not designed for the average golfer. That’s no reflection to any employee there as it seems all is well kept considering the amount of play.

We were a twosome, scratch and 8 handicap.

The unfortunate thing in my opinion is that the greens take away from the fun this course could be for the average golfer. Very narrow front to back on many, hard surface with little to no divots (bent grass would be so much better for those narrow greens) and severe penalties for missing the green only by a few feet. It is unfortunate that the designer from Nicklaus didn’t include optional large areas on the greens for pin placements for the average golfer in order to speed up play, yet still have other areas for pro or college tournament play.

In October, the greens were a bit shaggy and rolled slow compared to other courses we played in the area making it even harder to judge putts and breaks on tough pin placements.

I’m sure if I played here several weeks in a row, things could be figured out and would have a better experience with the greens, but we typically play this course once every other year. We come for the fun more than the golf so your mileage may vary. We were paired with high handicappers and they were fun but took longer than it should typically.

On our day of play in October the person doing pin locations placed many on slopes in the thinnest part of the greens that were impossible to land anywhere near the pin and chips had to be very precise. That’s ok but if you bail out to center of green you are faced with severe downhill or swinging putts, and if missing the green, the penalty was far too severe for missing the green by a couple feet. This slowed down play.

Staff was okay but we only interacted with the person taking payment. Most staff were careful amid the pandemic. However, the bag guys still want to take your bag and walk 5 feet to put on the cart without wearing masks, gloves and/or changing gloves or wiping hands between bags, no indication if they are tested each day, etc. I know SC has different requirements than other states, but they should give the option to put our own bags on the cart and maintain distance. Another course wiped down our whole cart including the bag strap for us.

I would recommend this course as we had a good day, but for fun golf maybe look somewhere else as there are many that have great scenery of the intercoastal waterway, harbors, marshlands, etc.

Great time.

Me and buddy played with our high school sons and had a great day. Course in great shape. Windy. We played back tees. Challenging from the tips. Greens were nice. Fairways in good shape. Staff very friendly from the cart guys to the assistant pro. Have played here multiple times in the past. Course usually in good shape. Today no exception.

Greens made for a frustrating day!

Played Long Bay Club and it was in perfect condition. Tees were great, fairways rolled nice, and the bunkers were all in such good shape. The only issue I have with this course is the size of the greens. Nearly half of the greens are slim and require near perfect shots or you are in a bunker or on the mounds throughout the rough. Greens made for a frustrating day
