The Lakes Course at Red Hawk
About
The Lakes Course at the Resort at Red Hawk is a Robert Trent Jones masterpiece that has helped vault Reno and the High Sierra into the upper echelon of West Coast golf destinations. Named the best daily fee golf experience by readers of the Reno-Gazette Journal, the Hills Course is a challenge not to be missed.
Playing to more than 7,100 yards from the tips, the Lakes Course is a haven for big hitters who love dangerous risk-reward opportunities, as well as for players who thrive on accuracy in their golf game. More than 100 bunkers challenge golfers, as do a plethora of trees and water hazards that both add to the aesthetics of the course, and the difficulty.
Along with its sister, the Hills Course, the Lakes Course has helped the Resort at Red Hawk become synonymous with stellar golf action and excellent service.

A little dry, rude members
I enjoy this course, its a nice layout and has good distance from Gold tees. Every time I play here the members are just rude, a lot of people 60+ in age.
We had a group behind us hit into our golf cart two times, and one time onto the green when we were on it, I was polite cause they were seniors but they felt entitled to do this cause they are members.
The 5 people ahead of us were abusing the greens so we were fixing 3 divots on each green.
Course; 6/10
Greens are very dry, we teed off at 7:20am so no excuse, they should be soft and damp. Not hard and dry, running too fast for regulation speeds.
Fairways were very chewed up, and short. But most had enough water, on 6 holes my tee shot was actually plugged into the ground which is not good course management if the fairways are this wet they will get abused.
For $60 to play, I compare to great courses. I just played Whitney Oaks in Rocklin for $35 and it is in perfect shape, reno is a bit proud.
If you are looking for a new course to play, try Red Hawk. If you want a great designed course that is more challenging, try Dayton Valley or Eagle Valley.
Great course
Haven’t played the Hills yet but the Lakes is a good one for sure. Challenging but fun!
beautiful day
Play here a lot but it has been awhile. The course is in very good shape right now. The greens were almost healed from being punched earlier. The ball rolled fine with hardly any deflection from the healing bumps. The fairways and rough were in excellent condition. Now to their practice facility. For the money people pay to play at Red Hawk you should be able to hit off their large grass range, but instead they have you hitting off some sort of "carpet" which is on top of cement, not good. They do have a good sized putting green, but their chipping green is a joke. There are other public courses in Sparks that have much better practice facilities than Red Hawk. Their practice facility has been this way for a long time so I guess nothing is going to change any time soon, to bad.
Red Hawk - Lakes Course
Great course, and good shape for winter time! Never disappoints.
Fun place to play
I’ve played the lakes a few times and always enjoy it. Cool staff, awesome facilities, and course is always in pretty good shape. It does get pretty busy though, be prepared to be waiting on groups in front of you. Also really nice carts, but they won’t let you go very far into the ruff. But overall a great place to play.
Great course
I like the Lakes course better than the Hills course. It was windy when we played and marginal shots were lost balls. Glad to see a sign up on Vista to let you know the turn off to the course is coming.
confusing
This course was confusing going from hole to hole. Also returning the golf cart was also confusing. There was no good direction from going to hole to hole. Also no good direction returning the golf cart
Enjoyed a nice day at the lakes Course
The course was in very good condition but not great condition. Staff was pleasant but not overly engaged as the bag drop was not staffed when we arrived or when we departed. The food and drinks in the clubhouse were very good and reasonably priced. Overall, I would play this course again when visiting the Reno area. Pace of play was an issue and we called the pro shop to ask for a ranger to "suggest" a faster pace of play from the group(s) in front of us.
Great value
First time playing the course. After playing Vegas where it was hot and dry, it was a relief playing in cooler temps. Course was in great condition. Greens were faster then they looked and felt. Pace of play was good. Finished the round in 3 hrs 40 mins on a Friday. Great value for the price. I would play this course again when in Reno.
Excellent course. Great value for the quality
This course played really well. The fairways were manicured excellent and a nice drive was rewarded with extra distance. Greens were pretty good. Rolled pretty true. Was not a crowded course and the price was very reasonable for this quality. I highly recommend.
Red Hawk Lakes
Fun course to test your higher elevation length.
Best defense at course is wind.
Red Hawk - Fun to Play - Aggravating GPS
Enjoyed the Lakes course. Enjoyed the Hills a bit more. New GPS system has boundaries programmed it. When you go into the rough even a short distance, you receive this irritating message. Over the course of 18 holes, it definitely becomes an irritant. The routing and rules need to be reconfigured.
