This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. 2nd time at Toyoibe

Signed up as a twosome, but had two other guys added to make us a foursome. Would have been ok, but they were better than us, and did not want to play at our pace of play. They decided they had had enough by #9, and gave us an excuse to take off ahead of us. We are not good golfers, but not absolutely terrible either. Felt rushed the first nine. Second nine was some of the best golf I’ve ever played!

We do not blame the course for pairing us up, just wish there was a way when making the reservation to add a skill level, so the course may use the info to better match up players. Also, had to wait for a cart, as none were available at out reserved tee time.

The course as a whole was in good shape. To bad players don’t fix ball marks on the greens. All in all however, had a good time, and will absolutely play here again.

Toiyabe...a must-play!

Excellent experience right from the start.

Staff was friendly, range balls like new. Played with 2 young guns who hit it a mile & were real helpful with course knowledge. Thanks Kevin & Sam! The course layout was amazing, had everything a golfer looks for in a round. Stellar conditions, greens were smooth & quick, water, elevation changes, giant trees(a few in the middle of the fairway). Wind kicked up on back 9, ouch!

Can’t wait to return to get some of my shots back! Overall top-notch day.

Beautiful mountain course

It was first time that we've played Toiyabe. It was a challenge when the afternoon winds came up. Definitely course knowledge would help save a few strokes since there were some hidden water and green speed was tricky if you were left on the wrong side of the hole. Looking forward to getting back.

Great layout, challenging but fair.

I have had the pleasure of playing this course before and after it became open to the public. The amount play the course now shows, but still is a great track. Lots of bunkers and water to make the golfer have to think about their next shot. Bunkers were wet and are a little unattended to. (I was only in one). Players seem to not know how to fix ball marks on the greens.

Beautiful course.

A great course. Beautiful sights, great lay out, amazing place to play. Good long par 5s, challenging par 3s. Greens run a tad fast and sands a little hard but fairways, T boxes, and facilities are tip top. Staff is great, members are friendly, and food is good too. Only problem is it can great really windy out there. But on a calm day, easily my favorite course.

A Sierra gem which the public can now play

Toiyabe GC is a wonderful GC which will test your skill so be sure and pick the correct tees. You

should also play close attention to the course layout on the cart GPS as there are many water features which your ball will easily find. The greens were in great condition and also fairways were good. The layout is terrific and views on several holes were great. Mike, the golf pro, was excellent in getting us started and explaining all the amenities. We enjoyed our lunch in the restaurant also. Our next trip to the Carson Valley area will definately include Toiyabe. I believe it is the best course in the area.

We are so glad they now allow public play.

Reno Carson Golf - Toiyabe Golf Club

The course was a pleasant treat. I have tried the courses int eh Reno Sparks area, but decided to take a trip south on US 395. To my surprise I came across the Toiyabe Golf Club in Washoe City, 20 minutes south of Reno. As you can see from the pictures, the course has plenty of undulation, beautiful vistas, and is well maintained. The course superintendent and crew are doing a great job with maintenance. The staff at the golf shop were friendly and helpful. There are a few elevated tee boxes when makes you think "course management" given the 5k foot elevation. There is a restroom about halfway through the front and back nine.

The greens see to be spongy; I saw only a few divots. The greens are well maintained and feel like carpet; not fast and smooth.

Overall, I was very pleased with the experience, and I think you will be too.

Great design in beautiful setting

This great design recently changed ownership and is now open to outside play..

Located in beautiful Washoe Valley/Franktown Rd area makes this layout even better.

The front nine is more of a links style layout and the back nine has a more alpine feel with

some elevation change . I thought the fees were very reasonably for the quality of the layout, condition

and the amentities, especially considering it was private until just recently.

Great layout in a Beautiful setting

Thunder canyon is a great golf course with a lot of beautiful views. The Front nine is more of a links style and the back nine has more elevation change in an alpine setting.

Challenging but fun to play the course has six sets of tees.

It says it's private but they do allow outside play.

A lot of really good holes my favorite is the 4th hole

Golf course is in good shape and the staff is very friendly
