Great course horrible bunkers
The bunkers are all horrible need work are hard pans like hitting off concrete pipes exposed and needs alot of work
Great course, snail slow
Waited on every shot!!! Got to have a ranger entire course backed up and slow play will cause me not to play here in the future
Where'd my ball go?
Open fairways, plenty if length. If you love hitting the long ball, you will enjoy this course. Plenty of natural Visage. Staff is super friendly and helpful. There are one or two fairways with blind landing zones. One has definite downhill right slope to the woods. Stay left or have fun finding your ball in the second/third cut. Path is under repair in multiple places.
Enjoy and hit them well!!! Enjoy the 18th ;^ )
Brickshire-The what club do I use challenge!
My first time playing brickshire was a fantastic experience. This course will make you wonder what club to use on almost every hole. Uphill, downhill, around the corner to the left and right, sand traps to distract and scare you into hitting the ball into worse trouble on the sloping fairways, yeah it's a tactical golf experience, haha. If you think you'll hit the green, go 2 clubs up and hit it harder! Played from the black tees and it was cart path only due to 3" of rain the day before, so we walked a lot of it. This course was really cool! It's like a public Federal Club and is definitely one of my top favorite golf courses in the RVA area. I will definitely go back and bring more friends to laugh and share memories of hitting balls into the tall grass and misjudging distances.
GREAT VALUE/NICE FOLKS
Our traveling band from Pennsylvania always appreciate playing here at Brickshire. Nice course layout with some signature holes modeled after PGA & USGA courses. Finishing hole, a Par 5, brings all of your course management to bear. We paid Senior Rates here on Sunday of $46.00 and as you can see, it is a great rate for this golf course.
Off course facilities are excellent and they offers meals you don't ordinarily find at other public golf course.
Make the course as demanding or as easy as you possibly can by your selection of tees.
Highly recommend Brickshire.
Need some tweaks
I had not played here for about a year. Staff good and friendly. Range was in decent shape. Good putting and chipping area. Pace of play was slow, 4:30 round. Grass coming in nicely on fairways and greens were almost healed from aeration. Greens were hard and reasonably fast. Bunkers need some attention and golfers need to fix their ballmarks as there were obvious unrepaired craters on many of the greens. Hole #5 is unfair, one of my friends who plays from forward tees hit a nice straight drive just right of the left bunker and his ball ended up about 10 ft into the right woods, completely poor. Hole #2, the tees listed at 400 yds was back at 438 yds with the burgundy tees. This was the case a few times as well as # 15 par 3. The blue tees were positioned behind the burgundy tees at 238 yds while the burgundy was at 226 yds. Card lists the blues at 193 yds. This hole is uphill to a raised green with miss areas right and left down the hill 30 ft. It’s tough enough at 193. Some attention to detail and work needed but still a very good course. It is not where it was when I first played it many years ago but it is much better than the ruin the Traditions Club did to it. Beverage cart came by once and though I mentioned a desire to purchase further refreshments on her next go round, she did not indicate that we would not see her again at all on the back nine.
Not For Amateurs
This course will be very frustrating for beginners or amateurs, or even average golfers playing from the forward tees. Almost every green is all-over slanted, and every flag was placed on spots with significant inclines/declines. There is 1 Par 5 that is virtually impossible for your drive from the gold tees to not go into the woods on the right, even if you do a draw on the far left of the fairway. And there are several other holes that your drive must be exactly placed to avoid the severely slanted fairways taking a beautiful drive and rolling it into the woods. Beautiful course, but very frustrating for lower-level skilled golfers.
Excellent
I hate to put this out there, but I’m not sure how Brickshire is able to keep their rates on the low end of the market, while maintaining the course conditions. Comparatively speaking, the tee boxes and fairways are in excellent shape. Having obviously been aerated in the last few weeks, the greens still had some sand, but they still rolled very true, and are shaping up nicely. My biggest criticism is of other golfers that don’t take the time to repair their ball marks. Very frustrating missing a putt due to a ball mark!
The only area of concern are the bunkers. Those that don’t have standing water are more hard-pan dirt and rocks than sand, with very few offering true sand trap shot opportunities.
The guy in the pro shop and the starter were great. They obviously enjoy their jobs, and are welcoming and efficient.
Even though I’m 45 minutes away, Brickshire is a course I’ll play when I can, and definitely recommend it, comparatively speaking, particularly given the value!
Nice layout but not happy that greens were aerated and sanded very recently…no notice on booking website nor from pro shop staff…would have played elsewhere
Greens
Course is a great layout, challenging, but fun. Greens recently aerated, which made putting difficult. Tough not yet grown in, so opportunity for forgiveness. Cart paths need repair in a number of areas. Have played before, later in season, and in better shape. Will play again in future, so not totally turned off.
People make the difference
I will first start by saying I own a home in Brickshire. The Marshall for the course is as horrible as his game. The way he treated my family members on the subject morning was very subpar and I can understand why our course hurts business wise. We need to fire the management company behind this course and hire a company that understands how important it is to hire good people.
Course good for the time of year.
The rough hasn’t grown out yet so no chance to hold the ball. Just made it more challenging. Liked the course layout, everyone super friendly. Coming from Canada where our season doesn’t open till mid may it was nice to get out and play. Would definitely play if back in the area.
