Greens were atrocious
Greens had been punched, there was zero grass on most of the greens.
Cheeks
Worst course I have played to this date, no range, basically no fairways. Greens were punched and sandy and spotty and there was hundreds of rodents roaming the property. Would only return if they paid me to
Don't play there until the drought improves
I've played this course many times, but not for a while. Played there May 16. As others have commented, the drought hasn't been kind to this course. The fairways are full of bare spots and the greens are awful. Another issue is time management. It was a busy Saturday when we played so I expect to do some waiting, but this was ridiculous. We weren't able to tee off until 30 minutes after our tee time. On one hole a foursome was ordering drinks from the cart and eventually three groups were waiting behind them. The par 5 was completely empty. Where was a marshall? Why does the cart serve drinks that take so long to prepare? I won't be back until the course looks a lot better (and I'm not that picky).
Myrtle beach visit
The facility was nice, staff very friendly and helpful. Tee boxes in good condition, fairways were good. Rough was good condition. The greens still in need of repair. They still rolled true and were quick. They held on some. Overall I enjoyed my round. I was a soloso played with some guys and got along great.
🌬️🐓
The course 🌬️🐓 but the squirrels were cool they’ll eat out of your hand.
The lay outs great, had potential but the greens were in terrible shape. Fast but scabbed.
I’ll be back!
Great course overall with a fairly challenging layout for all Lakeland levels. It’s been super dry for the past month here so I can’t complain about course conditions. I’m sure it’ll fair out once some good rain comes in. The Staff were absolutely fantastic amazing and super friendly. That’s a big factor in my book. They also have a loaded pro shop with all types of merch/equipment. I’ll definitely be back soon and very soon. Thanks ASGC for a good time.
Azalea Sands
They are handling the severe drought conditions as best they can and in my opinion doing a pretty good job with it. And as my motto goes. I can shoot a 85 on this course for a very reasonable rate just as good as I can sjoot a 85 on a course charging $95+ for a round.
First time
This course was very busy and the pace of play showed it. The course itself is not in great shape and specifically the 10th green is awful and should not even be played on. Staff was friendly although not super chatty or ready for small talk.
Really enjoy Azalea Sands. Currently they're in the process of repairing their greens, yet they were still rollings true with good pace. Excellent value!
Fun but greens are terrible
Cours layout is fun and scenery is nice but the greens are in bad shape. Overall it was a good experience for the money. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
Nice Course, Greens were rough
Enjoyed the course and golfers I was matched up with for this round. Enough water and trees to make it challenging. Greens were recently fertilized and a couple greens were rough. Overall a good course and I shot my lowest round ever.
Grass
There was barely any grass to play off of and the greens were the worst I have ever played on. Sandy bumpy and weeds on the greens. Bunkers had a bunch of rocks in them.
Worth a stop
I’ll start by saying this is by no means the best course in MB, nor do they market themselves as such. Don’t come in expecting TPC or Grand Dunes. At check-in, the guy at the desk, Chuck, immediately apologized for the state of the course. His exact words were “it’s in rough shape right now, but we’re trying our best.” For context, MB hasn’t seen meaningful rainfall in over a month- I don’t care where you are, any public course is going to struggle when that’s the case. The starter was super friendly and gave us a lot of insight about the course, and he made sure to space out start times accordingly. The front nine was nice and easy, and despite the ominous warning from Chuck, it wasn’t in terrible shape. Yes, the fairways were dry and fast, but they were maintained. No stretches of dirt or disease, bunkers were firm but not hard. Greens were dry and weedy, so I’m sure that’s where the “rough shape” comes in. If you’re trying to dial in your putting game, don’t do it here. Back nine tightens up, and any bad tee shot will end up in the trees or water. Carts had GPS and an alert system for pace, and the marshal (shoutout Tiger Claw) was patrolling the whole time. From start to finish, we completed 18 holes in 4 hours and 20 minutes. With a full tee sheet on the day and several large groups, that’s a great pace! If you’re looking for a fun round on a decent course with a great staff, Azalea Sands can’t be beat for the price. I hope they get some rain and patience from patrons to continue to work on the course and bring it up to standards.
They're not welcomed. Fairway and greens terrible. Lots of Poa Anua weed on greens
I had played many courses in Myrtle beach courses but this is one of wasteful time and money.
