Golfer Reviews
Getting Better
This course has come a long way and still needs some improvement, but definitely moving in the right direction. Good value and friendly staff.
Slow Play!
They seemed to pump foursomes out as fast as they can. It took us 3 hours and 20 minutes to play nine holes, waiting on every shot.. I asked the cart girl if there was a gap ahead and she said no, they were just busy. We quit after 14 holes. They also had smoldering burn piles in a couple of places within the course, so you were playing through smoke. Golf Now said they had a practice range. They had a few sagging nets over artificial turf hitting stalls to use your own balls. Sorry to sound so negative, but I can’t recommend Azalea Sands.
Over booked
I was unable to play as the course was over booked, we arrived for a 3pm teetime, there were no carts available and on the first tee, there was a group of seven teeing off. The starter told me they were playing some type of scramble. I remember the course from playing it last year and it being at the most a $30 value course. They were charging more than that.
It was a shame
Too many golfers, once you tee off, it was gridlocked. No ranger on course, eyes burning from the controlled burn of debris from the trees.. 3 hours and 45 minutes to play 9 holes. That is unacceptable
Smokie, got your money don’t care anymore
Burning brush, hinder play. A waste of a good day.. the course ruined my a day of golf
Kind of hidden
Good course, maybe not as high a profile of many of the Myrtle Beach courses, but not as snooty either.
Course management needs to rethink
They pack so many people on this course it’s a 6 hour plus round. Not worth it for this type of course. I had to quit after 9 we were 3.5 hours in on 7 hour pace. Waited 5-10 minutes on every shot. They were teeing people off every 5 minutes. Just super cramped. I expect 4.5 to 5 hour rounds on a Friday morning at a muni but not 6 hours. Never saw a ranger. If you’re gonna cram people in need a ranger forcing every group to play in 4.5 or under.
Course was very fair for the women in my group
The course was in very good shape and the staff was very friendly and helpful. My foursome included two women and they both really enjoyed the course. Well marked and challenging but not difficult. Will play here again on our next trip to Myrtle Beach.
Good course for price
Would have gave 4 star rating if they were not burning debris around the course. The greens were sandy but fast. I will play again and recommend give it a try for the money.
Terrible
We played coming down for vacation and we pull into parking lot to burning smoke come to find out the were burning the brush (sticks, acorn, etc). The whole front nine
Great course, hidden in plain sight
Fun course, but it’s a bit tight, so you are going to have take care and be accurate, or lose balls. Casual, friendly staff, very welcoming.
Friendly, inexpensive and fun course
Convenient easy access. The course could use some maintenance, but it’s great for the cost. The only caution is that the course is poorly marked. Getting from one hole to another can be confusing. Normal direction signage is largely absent. Don’t be surprised when you encounter golfers searching for the next hole
