Canyon Lakes Golf Course & Brewery

The course is tired and though it appears that some work is being done, a lot of investment would be necessary to make this a premium track. But tee times are easy to come by, the greens fees are reasonable and the layout is a fair challenge. Great on site restaurant and brewery too!

I played this course several times a couple of months ago and it was great. Fairways have actually improved since then. However, two big big issues when I played this time. First, the bunkers on holes 14-18 were in the worst shape I’ve ever seen any bunkers. They weren’t even marked as under repair. Second, the greens on the first several holes were like putting on cement, as they were the fastest greens I’ve ever played anywhere. Again though, a couple of months ago, didn’t have these issues, so maybe I just miss timed it. Course Marshall was nice as always. Beer is fantastic here!

This course was an absolute goat ranch. Fairways of crab grass and weeds when otherwise just dirt. All the bunkers were almost unplayable, driving range consisted of a hole filled net accompanied by two beat to crap mats that were definitely in their prime during Nixon’s time in office. Don’t even get me started on the greens. Only saving grace was a decent triple IPA in the brewery but even that strong adult beverage could not numb the regret of paying $50 to barely finish 18 at a sorry excuse for a local Muni.

Course is in poor condition. I’d estimate 60-70% of bunkers are not playable and 30% have been over taken with weeds. Will not return until I hear conditions improve.

Course was awesome. Had a great time. Only criticism is the bunkers. The ones that had sand were great. But that was only about half of them.

With an 11:20AM tee time myself and another player finished the course in 3 hrs. Several of the traps have been completely rebuilt and are in great condition. Greens are all good. Most of the fairways better than average. The only bad thing that play was impacted on several holes by workers who failed to acknowledge our presence and did not yield to golfers on the fairways!

I’ll start with the bad.

No driving range. This is the #1 reason I’ve never played this course over the years. I’ve had my fair share of injuries and I need a proper warm-up.

About half the bunkers are horrible. Looks like they are working on that as some of them looked new. Hopefully they keep that up.

The good.

Fairways, greens, and beer were excellent. They brew their own. Course plays a bit narrow and short. A lot of irons off the tee from the back tees. Par 3’s are long, which I like. Pace of play was excellent and seemed like we saw the cart lady every other hole.

I booked an early 18 ended up playing 36.

Will definitely be back.

Great course to tighten up your golf game. Playing from the back tees offers you a great round.
