After the rain conditions
Surprisingly the course was in good condition after a few days of rain. It looks like they have recently remodel the greens and fixed the tee boxes. They also may have done some bunker renovation but could not tell because many were filled with water. The fairways was also a surprise because I was told they did not have grass but with the recent rain it may have finally helped them out. I would play this course again because I love the narrow layout. Would like them to re do some of their par 3 as it’s not the normal layout. Your hitting uphill at times instead of level or down hill. Again will play again when it’s not cart path only. Value is the norm in these area. $$-$$$
Three star course is Five star enjoyment
There stars up to four stars as my rating, but 5 stars for fun. Always enjoy playing here. Never a dull moment and never know when to keep the lid on. Being aggressive won’t pay off here. Some greens are straightforward, others are downright difficult. Love the par 5. Fast and firm, or a little softer, you will get some bang for buck out here. Front nine very conventional with some tricky plays... Back nine has the extra par 3 all worthy golf holes, and Holes 14-18 are awesome.
More Canyon Than Lakes
Been about twenty years since played here. It was ok then. Don’t really remember much and it was just ok.
Today, the course showed character and promise. Greens were fast and dry(expecting rain tomorrow so jets turned off I imagine). Really fun track. Be careful and place ball well or with dry conditions in general as ball runs out there.
Par 5 are all good. Long hitter found it hard to get home in two. Par three 5 of them will offer a bit of a challenge. Par 4 if you can see em attack em, those you can’t see attack with caution.
In all loved it here and will be back. For what it’s worth the par 3 out here are better than Dublin ranch, the par 5 are WAY better, and the par four are ok on both except here two or three are harder for sure. Both are short courses but Canyon Lakes stands out as a real 18 hole course. Dublin Ranch slows it down a little compared to here...feels like a executive course out in Dublin. The Bridges that’s another situation... pretty good there too.
Oh and a bar that looks nice , overlooks the course, will be back for that next time!
Staff and Course
The staff was very accommodating and extremely nice. Weather was wonderful .
Really enjoyed the day, and the people really made it pleasant.
Hidden gem. Felt like I was playing a mountain course with all the pine trees.
Improve maintenance
Always liked the challenging layout, but condition is poor. If they do not spend some serious money on course maintenance, they run the risk of losing it. Got a discounted rate on the weekend, so not complaining much, but bunkers, greens, tee boxes all need upgrades. I know the golf biz is really tough nowadays, but this will only get worse if things don't change.
Nice Day
Got there early, some groups hadnt checked in yet they got me right out. Every time I play here it gets better and better. They are working on it. The course is in great shape, greens also nice and rolling well. The more I play here the more I appreciate the architecture..it is a real tight course in places. Will be back again.
Classic Course and Still Challenging
Canyon Lakes is great. Glad to see new management is stepping it up in the hospitality department. Course is in good shape and will test players of multiple skill levels. A great value.
First round at Canyon Lakes
I had a nice round at CL. Some of the traps need some TLC. Lots of ground under repair traps but overall the course is short but challenging. The greens were in great shape and like most courses in this area the traps need lots of sand.
I was very pleasantly surprised with the condition of the course. The greens were in great shape and very smooth. A tough but fair course, and I would certainly recommend it.
Good layout terrible two holes and bunkers
Overall I like this golf course but don’t think it’s worthy the money. It’s very close to my home but I’d always skipped playing here. The layout is pretty solid with two glaring issues.
There are two holes on the front that are terrible because of geese poop. I’ve never seen more geese poops on holes 4 and 5 than anywhere else in my entire life. Just disgusting.
Second problem is the bunkers. On almost every hole they have bunkers that they’ve let die. Some look like they might eventually refill. Others are just weeds.
With some minor changes this would be a great course. But I won’t pay that money again when I can go to Calippe or poppy ridge for 10-15 more.
Golf and Beer
Course layout - Short with a lot of up and down. It’s extremely narrow in places but if you can place it off the tee then you will have lots of fun here.
Staff - The staff were super friendly and seemed to be happy to be working which is unusual as most popular courses that are in a prime location seems to have a real attitude problem in the bay area.
Overall - We had a blast! The kicker at this course is that there is an award winning brewery attached to the course that opens at 7am. It also has bochi ball and corn hole before you even get to the tee.
Coming Back Soon
Twenty years. That’s a long time not to return to a course that offered a healthy challenge over an interesting layout and very nice course conditions. Things haven’t changed. Except the welcome addition of a taproom and an update to the clubhouse interior. My round was as enjoyable as it was so long ago. I look forward to returning soon. Don’t wait too long to play it yourself, you’ll be glad you did. I was.
You don't think it worth the money! Are you kidding this is the best deal in the east bay.
Course is in great shape, green are great.
Yes bunkers need work but you are not paying 150 a round but one third of that.
This is the best deal for a quality course unless you fly to Thailand.
