Maderas Golf Club is one of San Diego's most popular courses. Although it is less than an hour from Torrey Pines, it has a stunning landscape and challenging design that rivals that of the famed seaside course. Maderas may not have the ocean views, but its beautiful landscape provides just as much scenery. Nestled inland amongst rolling hills, the golf course weaves through rocky cliffs and outcroppings. There are mature trees throughout as well as a meandering creek and over forty acres of native wildflowers. There are three sparkling lakes and five waterfalls that come into play on the course. The demanding layout features difficult greens that are large and lightning fast. Several tricky uphill and downhill lies can be found throughout Maderas Golf Club thanks to the hilly terrain.

Makes me want to get back into golf

I play about twice per year and have been like this for years (kids, work, etc). But Madiera reminds me of why golf is such a great sport. Great scenery, good air, friendly service and the quest to hit that pesky little ball just right.

Great layout

Looked forward for some time to play there. Kinda ruined when we started behind a late arrival and then we were chased up on the second hole for being behind. So we abandoned our planned game and went with best ball to speed up, which was not what we wanted to do. At the end we were only 8 minutes over play time required.

Maderas Golf Experience

Johnny Miller designed a gem in the hills north of San Diego. Course is very hilly with lots of elevation changes and is a tough walk even with a cart. Greens are very fast and undulating and down hill/down grain putts can literally run off the green into a rattlesnake-filled gorge. Tough but really fun. Reminds me of courses in Scottsdale/Care Free AZ. A great alternative to Torrey Pines which is really hard to get on for visitors.

Definitely Going Back!

Searched for a good track in the San Diego area and found Maderas on GolfPass. What a terrific layout! Played from the Green tees (~ 6800 yds), and every hole is challenging. You have to think on this course, and with a breeze blowing, the changing elevations add complexity to the game. Loved it! I'll be back as soon as I can. Very courteous staff, too!
