Maderas Golf Club is one of San Diego's most popular courses. Although it is less than an hour from Torrey Pines, it has a stunning landscape and challenging design that rivals that of the famed seaside course. Maderas may not have the ocean views, but its beautiful landscape provides just as much scenery. Nestled inland amongst rolling hills, the golf course weaves through rocky cliffs and outcroppings. There are mature trees throughout as well as a meandering creek and over forty acres of native wildflowers. There are three sparkling lakes and five waterfalls that come into play on the course. The demanding layout features difficult greens that are large and lightning fast. Several tricky uphill and downhill lies can be found throughout Maderas Golf Club thanks to the hilly terrain.

Great value even with aerated greens

My group showed up knowing that the greens had recently been aerated. The greens still rolled great and this course is a great value at the discounted rate when they aerate the greens. I would play this course again in a heartbeat

Beautiful AND difficult

Course was in fabulous condition, personnel were great, TONS of undulation on fairways and greens....a couple of holes were borderline absurd! (Be sure to bring extra balls!) Still greatly enjoyed the round and would play it again.

A challenging course

This course is top notch in service and conditions. Playability-wise, it is for players who think their way through a round and play strategically. You must.

The back is tougher than the front. Be aware of the sloping fairways.

Very challenging

We played for half off which was really nice and definitely made it worth it. I live in north Phoenix and it would be better than average out there but for San Diego it is top notch. Definitely challenging and will test your layup skills. The greens are very hard but fun when I say hard I mean difficult

This is a truly amazing course. I hadn't ever played it due to the higher price but had always wanted to(.i used promo for 50%off) From the minute you arrive, you are treated like royalty! A cart was brought out to my car to load up my clubs and welcome me to the course. The starter was very helpful and gave me advice on what tees to play..The course conditions were great even after much rain over the last 2 weeks. Greens really rolled nicely. The layout was a great mix and I never got bored. I will come back as often as I can. They also offered free range balls so get there early. They have great GPS on the cart that measured to the pin for the day.4 hour and 20 minute round.

Best we have played in Southwest California

Played early afternoon and conditions were excellent for golf. The course is magnificent in the layout and design. Many opportunities for lost balls if you try to cut corners. Picking the correct set of tees important (17 handicapper off the white tees and ladies 28 off the red ) in making the course playable.

All staff were extremely hospitable and added to the enjoyment of the 4 hour round.

Love the layout

I am from MA, but visit my sister in San Diego a few times a year. Maderas is one of my favorite courses to play. The conditions are always great, and the course is very challenging, but I love the layout anyway. It can be a bit pricey, but the hot deal made it a relative bargain.

Is this as good as it gets in San Diego?

I see this place is top rated in this app, staff and amenities are great, well organized peace of play, Greens are crazy fast, if I play this place again I will do with a caddie, far too difficult greens, fairways are also extremely fast and flat so I recommend to play very conservative as the ball will roll from one side to the other very fast and quickly. I think it is a little overpriced but at 70 usd deal I got I think is just ok.

Showed up and was told we had been "double booked" and that we would have to tee off later. Were sent off on the back nine which was fine but when we turned onto the front, it was backed up. Group in front of us was extremely slow with no Marshall the entire day to keep pace up. Saw beer cart once all day. Staff was ok, not great.

Not worth full price to play here.

Who’s on first?

Three days before we were scheduled to play it became very obvious that no course in San Diego County would be open with a forecasted downpour of 2-3” inches of rain on the day of play. So we called ahead and asked if they would be open for our pre-paid round. This seemed like a reasonable question, since two of us were coming from out of the area. Nevertheless, the pro shop insisted that they would most likely be open for golf since the course drains well, and they have only cancelled golf 4 times since the course opened. So we had to wait until day of play, no matter the forecast. Again, we call that morning for a final check (in a strong downpour) and no one is in the pro shop to answer the phone, nor did they bother to tell their club operator that they left or if the course was closed. The weather was an inconvenience, but the lack of customer service is an outrage... please try to do better.

Not worth the money

For the price this course is way over rated. If you do play buy the tip book in shop. For the price it’s strange GPS system on Cart doesn’t give you advice. Greens are crazy ... almost need a windmill or clown face to put on them.. I just want to say I enjoyed the day ... met three new golfers and it was beautiful. I just didn’t care what I shot so it took the frustration away. I’m a 10 index. Ball carries and rolls far .. tee shots are blind a lot and again with out tip book you are lost. Greens and fairways are just above average

Too difficult a course

Course was pretty but much too difficult for my level of golf. Staff was great. Course conditions were fair but not up to the levels of the courses in Palm Desert and Scottsdale which we played these past 2 weeks. Interesting change in elevation on the different holes. Pace of play very slow . Finishing 8 holes took two and a half hours. We had to leave early because of the slow pace.
