Maderas Golf Club is one of San Diego's most popular courses. Although it is less than an hour from Torrey Pines, it has a stunning landscape and challenging design that rivals that of the famed seaside course. Maderas may not have the ocean views, but its beautiful landscape provides just as much scenery. Nestled inland amongst rolling hills, the golf course weaves through rocky cliffs and outcroppings. There are mature trees throughout as well as a meandering creek and over forty acres of native wildflowers. There are three sparkling lakes and five waterfalls that come into play on the course. The demanding layout features difficult greens that are large and lightning fast. Several tricky uphill and downhill lies can be found throughout Maderas Golf Club thanks to the hilly terrain.

Expect lots of walking, as many greens are inaccessible by cart. Wild, hilly landscape.

Nice course

Saw a golf now deal for $55. Didn’t see hardly anyone on the course and played in 3.5 hours. Played blue tees (5 handicap). Thought the course was tough but fair. Greens were slower than I anticipated. Not worth $140-160 in my opinion but with a deal a great value

Great Bang for your buck.

Yeah the prices might be a little high to play Maderas, but you get what you pay for. Played 18 challenging holes. With lots of undulations on the greens, there were hardly any give me puts out there. Staff was great! Felt like I was a member for a day. Greens and fairways were emaculate. There’s virtually no rough either which was nice. You’re penalized for bad shots and rewarded for good ones. Would definitely go back and play again.

Great Course!

Loved this setup. I don't know, I have the feeling that Golf Courses in San Diego have totally forgot the service side of the Golf Experience. Arriving to this facility remembers me how cool golf is and my days at Puerto Rico. Staff is very friendly, course practice facilities is one of the best I have ever seen in San Diego area. Course is challenging, but you are surrounded by beautiful views through out the whole course. Green conditions and superb. Overall a great experience. Keep it up guys!

Highly recommend

I have read about the course, and was excited to play it. Very nice course, layout and location! I use to live about 5 miles from the course, but it was not built then. Sorry I don't live close by now! It has a nice advantage for the ladies tees. I played about normal for me, so it helped with the tee placements. Great views.... the course was in very good condition. We were slowed down the last few holes waiting on a ladies tournament.. Great course for inland beauty!

Simply Awesome

Even though the weather didn't completely cooperate the course lived up to it's reputation. Very nice fairways and greens, just an overall excellent experience.

Will definitely play again, if I find another Golf Now deal!

Tough

Clubhouse and staff are as good as it gets in San Diego. Much better facility than Torrey Pines. The course is tough and greens are always fast. There isn’t much rough and you get a lot of roll in the fairways. The wind makes it even more challenging on the back nine. My favorite course in San Diego County and it’s not close.

Beautiful And Deceptively Difficult

I have played at least 200 courses in Southern CA. The Maderas Golf Club ranks in the Top 10 of the courses I have played. My reason for giving this course a high (5 star) ranking is more related to the course layout (beautiful and challenging) than to the course conditions. The condition of the course is very nice - but I gave it 4 stars not 5. The greens and fairways were nice, but I wouldn't really call them beautifully manicured. There were several rough patches on the edges of the greens, and the fairways were a bit hard and dry. The sand traps were also a bit inconsistent. So I couldn't give 5 stars for course condition. But, I don't think I have ever played a golf course that combined such beauty and difficulty. Many of the holes really didn't look that difficult from the tee. But, after 18 holes I was at twice my index! I don't think I have ever played a course that requires such a complete array of shots! Up hill, down hill, side hill, left-to-right, and right-to-left. And with a 10-15 MPH wind added in on the back nine, it became a very difficult course. And it was a one of the most complete tests of golf I have ever experienced. Oh, and one more thing. Just because you are in a cart doesn't mean you aren't going to get a real workout! If you play the back (black) or green (second from back) tees, you are going to be walking several hills to get to the tee boxes - especially on the back nine. And on many (most) of the holes you will have a nice uphill walk to get back to your cart from the greens. When the round is done, you are going to feel like you walked this course! Have fun. And bring your "A Game".

What every course should strive to be...

What can I say except,....Maderas NEVER disappoints. Friendly, helpful staff; plenty posh, but not at all pretentious. Great course, great conditions, great facility, great staff..... Did I leave anything out???

(Oh yeah, I got my truck detailed on site for a fair price while I played). Bottomline, these guys have it figured out. If in San Diego, it's worth the trip. For $65 on GolfNow,... it was a steal.

P.S. They also have golf boards!

Bucket List

If you haven't played here, you're missing an experience of a lifetime.

Course - Very challenging

Fairways - Very good

Traps - lucky enough to only hit two, but best and softest sand I've had the privilege of visiting

Greens - Very good and very contoured

Cart Service - best I've ever seen

Staff and Pro Shop - you'll feel pampered

Facilities - couldn't ask for much more. If you do, you must live in a palace.

A "must add" to your bucket list for your next round.

Risks and rewards

Had a great experience at Maderas, Staff was awesome, great course and location. Greens were in great shape however the fairways sloped and with the short dry grass made it very difficult to keep ball on the fairway (that buy the way was my only complaint). The bunkers were deep and very soft sand and had a great feel (I should know I was in them most of the morning). Played with a couple members that were super nice and shared their knowledge of the course so that really helped.

Best Non-Coastal Golf Course in San Diego

Maderas is a fun challenge

This course provides golfers of all skill levels an opportunity to be challenged and have fun playing golf. Its not the longest course, but the elevation changes and undulations provide plenty of challenge to the lower handicap players. The shorter layout provides great playability for the higher handicap players (although some of the carries can be intimidating for shorter hitters). It has nice mix of narrow, tree-lined holes and open, almost desert-style holes. There are also some fantastic views from the higher elevated spots on the course, as well as beautiful homes that give this course a great aesthetic. Have played it now three different times and have paid three different rates, so keep an eye out for those bargain deals because this is a great golf course!
