Angeles National Golf Club
About
Angeles National Golf Club is the only Nicklaus Design course in Los Angeles County. It is tucked away in the Angeles National Forest. This championship course is known for being one of the area's most challenging with tough greens that are lightning fast and more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are also two lakes and a creek that come into play. Golfers should be prepared for long par 4s and demanding carries over ravines and barrancas. Not only is it a golf course that requires length, you'll also need accuracy. Angeles National Golf Club finishes with a par 4 that plays from an elevated tee alongside the rushing creek that edges the left of the fairway and to the right of the landing area there's a deep bunker. To the right, the green is bordered by deep grass hollows and bunkers and there is a lake to the left.

Sad
I’ve been playing this course for 20 years and played 1000+ rounds there. I used to call it my home course, but aside from layout and greens, the course is no longer what it was. New management overcharges for conditions (browned out). Tees and greens are still amazing. If they somehow fixed fairways, the course conditions would be awesome.
BUT, the course is unplayable with pace. Management doesn’t have any course marshal or support pace of play at all, plan on 5+ hours. It’s not just support, the tee times are set 10-minutes apart, which means they KNOW pace is an issue, but all they care about is $. You’ll love the greens and tees, layout is great too, it plan on a miserable and slow round (I haven’t finished more than half my rounds there, as 5-hours is a miserable experience). It won’t change until they stagger the tee sheet, which needs to happen. Course could be great, but for now, it’s….Sad….

Poor stall help
It is horrible when you go to the snack bar to get two sodas and the help was the worst can’t even give change for a twenty dollar. it seams like no one wants to help I’d know anything so not to sure if I will be back !!!!!

Good Course when it’s alive
Played Angeles National for the 4-5 time today. It’s a difficult course with plenty of obstacles to overcome. The grass was green, and the sand was brown. It’s what you’d expect from a course of this caliber. Very well maintained.
Be aware — the greens were punched a little over a week ago and they are still playing rough and sandy.
My biggest disappointment with this course was the lack of amenities on the course. It’s a desert course and with weather in the 90 degree range, you’d hope to see a cart girl, or drink/snack stand somewhere , but no. To make matters worse, by 3pm, the pro shop and restaurant in the clubhouse were completely closed and locked.
Make sure you buy plenty of water before hand. It’s very very dry, and very hot. You’ll get no refreshments along the way.

Wait until the greens heal
They punched the greens and they won't be right for at least two weeks. They need to water the fairways a bit too. I enjoyed myself and played with nice guys but the course was not up to snuff for $135. It played like $75. The bunkers were heavy but the greens were quite disappointing today.

Should be $100 At Best
I've played this course 3 times. First let me say that this is a nice, fun, and challenging course. Fairways and greens are pretty well maintained, tee boxes could be better, but nothing horrible. I truly enjoy the course for the course itself.
Here's where my problems begin with the course. For the price that you pay, you are not getting anything that any reputable course would offer for this kind of money:
- Gate opens too late for first tee time
If you're like me and like to be the first off the tee, but also like to warm up beforehand, forget it. You'll have to go in cold because they open the gates with just enough time to check in before you tee off.
- Staff
It literally feels like the only person working is the one at the shop.
Tee off whenever you like! Or other people will tee off whenever they like. Whatever, you figure it out. Because guess what? No starter
Hungry or thirsty during your round? Oh well. No cart girl
People in front of you are playing 30 minutes behind pace and hitting 2 balls each? Suck it up. No marshal
Hire some more people or lower the prices
- Range
I don't think I've ever been to a $150+ golf course that doesn't give free range balls for people to warm up with. It's a fraction of the cost of the tee time, and a nice gesture to your patrons. I don't understand why they wouldn't do this, except to make as much money as possible off of people. It won't cost you anything, but your patrons will appreciate it, which goes a long way.
- Misc
These are little things that would make the experience much better. Ice coolers in the carts, towel dip buckets, ball cleaning stations at tee boxes, etc. Again, it doesn't cost much, but your patrons will have a better experience, and want to come back.
If you're coming to play this course, just know that you're paying $150+ just for the course. Not much else. And with that said, the course is really good but not $150+ good. If the things listed above are not going to be offered, I'd say this is a $100 course at best. With the above features, I'd gladly pay $150+ to play this course.
To the course: It really feels like you don't care much for your patrons' experience at your property. The priority seems to be, how can we make people pay the most while still having just enough people come in so that we don't go under? That's why weekend tee times are wide open. Maybe if you lowered the price a little, you'd get a lot more people coming in, which would actually increase your profits enough so you can afford to hire more people or give free range balls, and enhance the experience, which would in turn keep bringing more people in, and get you more profit.
I don't usually write reviews. But I like playing this course and I think they could do better so I took the time to write this. Like I said, it's a fun course to play. I want to invite more friends to come and play here. I'd love to bring my father to play the course. But it's not a nice course experience. I'll probably still play this course. But I just wish I didn't feel a little ripped off every time I finish a round.

Quick round
Felt like playing today. Checked all the local courses and nothing available. Checked to see if Angeles had openings and they did. 3 1/2 hour round. Thanks

Such a joke
This place used to be a great course. Now it’s truly embarrassing. Way overpriced and the customer service is laughable. The manager, a woman who’s name I can’t remember, should never be allowed to work in a customer service capacity. Whoever owns this place should be ashamed. And now charging $180 for weekend play? Maybe that’s why almost every tee time, ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, is still wide open. Morons.
Hello, jschottland. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for your experience during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. Thank you for choosing Angeles National Golf Club.
Nice course but too expensive
If you’re willing to pay for it you will have a decent time.

Great value for the Southern California
Challenging but fair layout and conditions. Needs a little water but it was my first time there so don't know how it typically is maintained. Love that they have a grass range but the tee boxes should really be mowed. I felt like I was forced to hit out of the rough while at the range. Would have been nice to have 1-more staff as a starter or just letting you know where things are, etc. For almost $200 it was a little light in that area. Would definitely be back as I liked the course and it's not that far from the Westside of LA. Rustic Canyon I thought was maintained better and was less than 1/2 the price; just sayin.

An all around good afternoon...at a price
I enjoyed my round at Angeles National. Although my experience at the course may vary differently from the average golfer as I had the opportunity to play during the week, which may have skewed the pace of play. I will say, however, that the course does a good job of ensuring that pace of play is protected as a matter of policy. There are constant reminders that, if respected, would likely avoid inhibiting the pace of a round.
Highs:
The conditions were surprisingly good. For a public course at a time where fairways are being ripped to shreds by new players during the COVID-19 golf wave, I was amazed that it was in such good shape. The greens were pristine, fairways were clean, and honestly what more could you ask for?
The pace of play was amazing, I finished the front 9 in an hour and a half. I will say, I ran into some traffic on the back 9 as I encountered a couple who refused to let anyone play through which was annoying, so I think sending out a marshal every few hours would have helped. There was none when I played but it was a weekday so I understand it.
Indifferent:
Course layout was nothing to write home about. There were a handful of memorable holes. One that stuck out was the 9th, featuring a row of beautiful dessert flowers in full bloom, but for the most part one hole mostly ran into the next. Again, the layout wasn't boring, it just didn't blow my socks off. I will say it is superior to most public courses in the area.
Lows:
There were not really any amenities. No beverage cart or waters in the golf carts but it's a public course, what can you do.
Cost: For what you pay to play at Angeles, I was surprised by the lack of amenities. It made the wallet sting a bit more knowing that the only thing you are paying for is the course itself.
With that said, given the conditions of the course, friendliness of the staff, and all other factors, the price for the game seemed worth it...but it was a close call.
Hello, mevans1995. Thank you for visiting us at Angeles National Golf Club. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Good course but pricey
I have been playing the course for years. It is a good but tough layout. The conditions can be dry with thin fairways, which I would love to see improved. Today, the course was a little softer than usual and a great joy to play.
Pricing has increased too much in my mind. $135 for weekend play was fair, $175 as we paid today is too pricey. I will continue to play the course from time to time, but at the current price I will play infrequently.
Perhaps some sort of players club membership could be deployed for frequent players to reduce the cost.
Please open the restaurant as a sandwich and a beer post round is part of the golf experience.
Thank you, Paul
