Escape the snow & play Sanctuary Ridge Photo submitted by DAB4par on 12/05/2014
sanctuary ridge
A very good value . The course was in good shape. The greens were a good speed but very grainy and sometimes tough to read. Several holes require course knowledge to play them properly. We enjoyed our round and would gladly return to play again.
Unique Course
Sanctuary ridge is always a blast to play. The course utilizes the unique terrain of the Clermont area. The greens were in great shape as were the greens and most of the fairways. Some of the bunkers could use a little work and the carts are showing their age but overall this course is certainly worth the value. The course was very busy but the pace of play was still good. I will definitely return.
Super fun golf course
I've been meaning to play this track for years, and finally got the chance yesterday.
I was expecting a really hilly experience and don't always prefer that, however this course is just great fun, and every hole has a new challenge.
I knew they over seeded a couple of weeks ago and expected a little slower greens but they were actually fine and rolled well.
It is now one of my favorite golf courses, the staff were absolutely terrific, I look forward to playing it again.
Great course
Pace was slow. Totally unlike any other Florida course. Hills and blind shots on almost all holes. Green speeds were somewhat inconsistent but in great shape.
Painfully slow today
We walked off the course after 13 holes, pace of play was brutally slow. The starter was also the ranger and they had booked 140 rounds for the day. The first two groups off were foursomes, and then there were at least 3 twosomes behind them. Apparently the lead groups played slow and would not let any groups pass them. I had enough after 4 hours of this and we left after 13 holes.
The ranger came out and apologized but by then our patience had worn out. We were not the only ones disappointed with pace of growth play. After 9 holes the group behind us (who were members) quit after nine.? They indicated they had never seen it that bad. When we left another group behind us also quit (we saw them in the parking lot).
Too bad as this course is fun to play.
One additional note, the greens were really slow, they had not mowed in a couple of days.
I will try it again when we return in February.
Not Your Typical Florida Course!
This is a great course for varying lies and vistas. Everywhere you look is a great view. The course itself is in pretty good condition, except for the rides away from the tee decks... pretty bumpy! The carts are also starting to feel their age from the hill climbing. But, all in all, it was a great day of golf. The staff could not have been friendlier - from the proshop to the cart girl to the wait staff in the restaurant. All top-notch! Make this one of your stops. It's worth the drive!
The Ridge
Got the senior rates and felt the course was well worth the price. My golfing partner felt the bunkers were a challenge.
very entertaining course
We like playing this course when we come to Florida. The elevation changes are unique to the area. The higher handicappers in our group scored better because their shorter hits keep them out of trouble. Make sure you call your lunch order early as it took a long time, but was good. A great bargain at $29 including lunch for a fun course.
Sanctuary Ridge
Beautiful layout, gorgeous weather. We had a twosome in front of us that was slower than our group of three and a twosome behind us that kept hitting into us. If the starter had combined the two pairs and let us go ahead it would have been ideal. Playing Sanctuary Ridge for the first time we had a fairly rough go with the layout. Due to the topography there were probably four holes that we had no idea where to hit the tee shot; a mini map on the tee box could have cured that because the tiny little map on the scorecard was inaccurate on a few holes. As we draw closer to high season they also might want to think about cutting the rough. I think five feet off some fairways need not be over a foot long. I've never lost that many balls in my life. All in all a fantastic day. I look forward to playing again with my new found knowledge of the course.
Sanctuary ridge
Fun, hilly, course in really good condition. Greens very nice and receptive. People, especially Steve, were very accommodating. Will definitely go back!
Nice Course
Longest round of golf I've ever played. Had a 10:22 tee time and didn't get to tee off till 10:45. I can live with that. What i can't live with is not getting done until 4:15. Every shot had to wait on group in front of us while they were waiting on group in front of them and so on. Next time this course knows they are having a tournament in the early morning they should not start booking tee times until they are sure it will be done. The course itself is very fun and enjoyable .
I like the lay out of the course
Took us two hours and 45 minutes to play the front nine we quit after 15 holes we got so tired of waiting need a Ranger to get pace of play moving . Even the group behind us quit they said they'll never be back Some of the fairway Sand traps horrible condition unplayable in most cases . When we quit and we're driving back in we passed a foursome wasn't anybody in front of them they held up the whole golf course . I used the men's bathroom a paper towel basket was completely overflowing and towels all over the floor and it smelled terrible We won't be back
Once was good now is Ughh
I played this course once before when know as Diamond Players Club.
What a difference ownership makes-in a bad way.
First the good
The greens and fair ways are in normal shape. Greens were actually very good.
The value for the price is good. Can not beat 25 dollars to play around of golf.
The course is fun to play, lots of different degrees of elevation change. Can score well if you can make the greens in regulation.
The bad.
Bunkers and rough were in horrible shape.
the asstetics of the course show that the management group has little money for up keep.
T markers are still reference previous ownership.
course could use some clean up and vegitation removal
changes in elevation
Because the course is not flat, it requires more concentration for each shot.
Amazing!
I love the course. Layout is very dramatic and challenging. Wish has faster green but playable. Will come back again.
an utter shame
This course has to be one of the biggest disappointments ever. The course is not at all well maintained, the tee boxes are covered in crab grass, my wife had a hard time finding a spot without crab grass on all most all of the women's tees, on whole 16 there is trash in the bunker to the left, that has not only been left there but seems to have been run over by lawn mowers, lending to shredded trash, which doesn't make for a pleasant view. This course is a diamond in the ruff and it truly is a tragedy that management isn't running it efficiently. After our bad experience on the course our group went into eat and from there it got worse, the menu is extremely limited and then to top it off its not even edible, I ordered the brisket sandwich which to me appeared and tasted like dog food wiith "BBQ" sauce that in no way should be called bbq sauce, and my friend who also had the same agreed. My wife ordered the smoke chicken salad which was ok but the chips she had where soggy and old. The restaurant offers such a beautiful view and all the proshop staff and restaurant staff where very friendly and that I think was the only positive and is probably the only reason I may try coming back in a year or so in hopes that management has gotten its act together.
Great Views Of Clermont And Surrounding Area
Very picturesque. Lots of hills. Great views. Course was in good condition. Not the level of Disney courses. OK greens were recently aerated. Fairways good, lots of weeds in the rough. I play here often depending on what price I can get. Sometimes have resident deals. Winter time rates are usually more than I will pay so they lose my business. Need to have a year round resident rate.
Great elevation changes
This is one of my favorite courses in the orlando area. The greens are always in good shape and the fairways are also always pretty well maintained. This course gets a good deal of play. Most of the bunkers were in good condition. My favorite thing about this course is the way it uses the elevation changes of the landscape. The pace of play can be a little slow but it is generally a lot of fun.
Great course
Elevation levels are great. Course in good shape. Friendly staff.
Fun day.
Great layout with lots of elevation changes, unusual for Florida. Great views overlooking the area. Course conditions were a 7 on scale of 10, but the layout made up for it. Generous fairways and large greens. Just avoid the traps as they can be tough. I would definitely play again when in the area. Also got a great rate on Golf Now so that made it even better. If you are looking for something different in the Orlando area I'd give Sanctuary Ridge a try.
